So a racist substitute teacher gave an 11 year old boy an arrest record because she wanted to force him to Pledge Allegiance to the flag.
Have I mentioned how much I hate racists?

Have I mentioned how much I hate jingoistic racists even more.

But are there any other kind?

This kind of thing can be handled without arrests. It shouldn't have escalated - where is this teacher's skill in handling disruptive behavior? Why did a police officer put the cuff's on.Sounds like everyone overreacted.

A recitation of a variety of other poetry would be so much more beneficial to start the day.
I'm thinking even chosen by the students to recite on a rotating basis.
Maybe even their own if they are brave enough.

What have we become? This sounds like the punishment in Nazi Germany for not saluting Hitler.

The original Salute to the Flag was very similar to the Nazi hand gesture.

@BufftonBeotch Glad that got changed.

Yeah, this is fucked. The substitute and the school will be sued.

Telling people that the author of the pledge was a Socialist is a very fun thing.

The cops were just as assholed. They should have never handcuffed the kid.

This person should not be a teacher.
She escalated what should have been a non-issue to arrest with an 11 year old.
