So, an acquaintance that you run into every week posts THIS; "Muslims HATE pork, beer, bikinis, JESUS, dogs... So, why are they coming into this country?!" You, 1. Ignore, keep scrolling, 2. Comment that, actually, the ones disseminating the post are the haters, 3. Ponder the use of the word hate in order to beget hatred, and the susceptibility of brainwashed idiots to this type of propaganda., or 4. Choose to not create waves, thereby rendering yourself culpable by silently condoning it?

Ignoring religilous assholes is not the solution. We must destroy religions.

Who is "He?"

@BufftonBeotch Typo, corrected

@Tiramisu It was a funny one though.

Basically, I'd say it's a free country and they shouldn't be denied the same rights that the rest of have.

2

Let's see..... I dislike pork, beer, bikinis, Jesus, and I live here. Should I move away?

I may be an ass and tell them that they don't hate Jesus; they just don't believe he's the son of their imaginary friend.

i guess the acquaintance doesn't like jews either, since pork and jesus are out. anyway, muslims don't HATE pork; they're not allowed to eat it. they also not only don't hate jesus, they consider him a prophet (which means jews should be lower down on the list than muslims if these are the criteria). i didn't know jesus wore a bikini or had a dog, or drank beer come to think of it. my choice would be 5. mention some of the above. what care i if a shitstorm comes back? like their opinion would mean something to me? and i DO have a block button for when things get tedious.

Yes yes! I thought of all of those things. First, the use of the word hate is inflammatory. Plus, you could replace the word Muslims with Jews and it would amount to the same thing! Islamaphobia is the new Antisemitism. That's why, as a secular Jew, I feel a moral obligation to counter such bigotry!

@friendlycatlady i'm with ya! i feel the same way. (and while islamphobia is the new antisemitism, unfortunately, the same old same old antisemitism is on the rise too.)

  1. Block them from whatever social media you are connected to them.

Block the people who don't like bikins eat porl and drink beer ? Or the ones who claim these are unAmerican traites ? What about two out of three . You wouldn't want to see me in a bikini and I wouldn't want to drink beer . Pork chops , on the other hand .....

@Cast1es No no it's completely the opposite! Block the people who claim that other people are un-American because they don't drink beer, praise Jesus or wear bikinis!😀

@friendlycatlady There's folks who should never wear a bikini.

I've read the comments so far and maybe some of the hostility stems from basic ignorance of Islam. We do get bombarded with the worst of stories and images from that belief system that demands it be an actual lifestyle. And much of that lifestyle runs contrary to our basic philosophies, at least in America.
Most (?) of us here have at least perused the Koran and the bible and know it's a fat lot of nonsense, so it is hard for many of us to feel anything but mild contempt when considering these matters.
I'll admit I've only recently come into contact with some practicing Muslims and I'm trying to see past their religion and see them as people, but it's difficult. And it's difficult because I've no respect for their religion and their lifestyle and values are so foreign to me.
This current culture seems to be very good at objectifying people for various reasons and then demonfying them. Do they deserve censure? Hate? I don't think so. Any more than these ridiculous christians that we deal with on a daily basis. Most of them are just trying to get by like the rest of us.
I don't have any solution save for maybe just trying to deal with people as individuals?
That said, when a group enters a foreign land and insists on continuing lifestyles that run contrary to the status quo...when they refuse to assimilate...is that rather an invasion? Is it?
It's a volatile issue. It's extremely complicated. I posted the above link written by an anthropologist that might help with some understanding.

Exactly, and thank you for mentioning. We must be forever mindful not to use collective judgement against all INDIVIDUALS in a group. Each individual is not responsible for every crime committed against humanity by OTHER individuals that are in the same group. Sometimes it takes a graphic image to get the point across. I will never forget seeing a photo of a man carrying a wounded child in his arms. The child had wet himself. They were Arabs. I am a secular Jew, who is not supportive of Israel's current policies and Prime Minister.

Well thought, BUT.... We are in culture wars all over the planet. The reason people are religious is because their parents were. We as atheists must confront (I say fight) this continued indoctrination of generation after generation. Human rights, women's rights, children's right all must prevail over the religion that forces baseless stupidity.. Mic drop.......

@Lop-Eared-Mule can't argue with any of that, sigh...

My former father-in-law does this.

As much as I love him, he is a bigot!

We still have a father-daughter relationship, but I stand up to him about this. I'm outnumbered by my ex-husband's family. They are trump supporters, but I put my foot down when they go too far.

I know they're memes, but the message is clear

Well, it's good to see that bigotry is still alive and well in this country, but I'm afraid those memes are wrong. It only took me about 2 days, not 15 years, after 9/11 to come to the defense of Muslims in our country. Before 9/11 I never really gave Muslims much thought, but then the wholesale persecution of them started, and I couldn't ignore it. Of course one of the finer points was, the morons couldn't tell the difference between Muslims and Sikhs, so they started attacking both groups. And as for "Sharia Law", it is not a viable legal defense anywhere in the country, so the point of the meme is moot. If "ignorance is bliss", I should think that bigots would be some of the happiest people on the planet.

@StevenWilbur My thought, the day it happend, the moment I heard was 'Well, you can't bomb the shit out of a corner of the world for decades and not expect serious retaliation.' I was 20 at the time. All the shock and outrage seemed very hypocritical to me.

They post a point of view, that in it's self is quite pointless, inform them of your point of view and then ignore them.

1

The pork and shrimp and some other things are some weird things from the Abrahamic religions.

Penis mutilation of baby boys is also a carryover we can thank them for.

My initial blurb sort of related to Scientology. Their techniques are utilized by many other 'self-help' and property development groups. The topic, 'Being Aware of Manipulation' is important but the rest of the story is a satire. Just wait till I get suck into that misfit David MisCavidge. Yeh, he missed the point totally.

We're just evolving and need religion or some belief system for community. We all desire community just as a dog does (but not a cat). We haven't evolved enough in the few thousand years since when we huddled together in caves when it was cold. We just got to find the right community. Anyone want to huddle in a cave or do you prefer to fiddle with your iPhone?

Block the bigot ....shame the fool by private msg

1

Some find that they can't live with the extremists , of their religion , so find they have a longer life if they leave . That does not mean they suddenly find their own religion something they want to leave , as well . They just want a softer version of it .

Common racist Bullshit

I sometimes feel like I'm condoning bigotry these days being in atheist sites. I'm anti religion in general but have a low tolerance for bigots. It's a fine line. I usually scroll by.
