Does anybody else hate the over use of the word super. There's got to be a better way to describe your level of excitement then saying "super excited", don't you think?

Agree. Can we ditch the word awesome too?

Well, while we are at it we might as well ditch quasi-scientific words and all those words which refer to nothing more substantial than impure wind.

And 'amazing', just how many goddamn things can be 'amazing, anyway?

@Condor5 The universe encompasses many amazing things.

I DIDN'T GET WHERE I AM TODAY by saying "Super" all the time.
Super, CJ

@diabhal it's weird, I loved that series. I bought the box set recently, but couldn't watch it - it seemed so ... Can't explain it. Your reply madee.laugh out loud, woke my dogs up.
For some reason I can watch Dad's Army or Last of the summer wine and still chuckle at them.
Perhaps I wasn't in the mood for Reggie. I'll try again sometime.

I don’t mind super but don’t like the phrase “ on point”

I agree. Super on-point! 😉

I understood that the word was overused by those from the U.S. I didn't realize other countries overused it. There are many ways you can express yourself in ultimate fashion by saying massively, awesomely, extremely, and others. Perhaps, this is an opportunity for you to take the lead in demonstrating to others your adroitness in expressing yourself without overusing one expression or word.

"Very" excited. Other than that, just use the word "excited"...there is seldom any reason to guild the Lilly.

Meh...

Annd awesome knocked it out of the park

oh like totally for sure

1

It super pisses me off! (Joking aside - yes. It's one of the most infuriating verbal trends of all time.)

Don't use super-awesome is what word I use.

0

...it sounds like 'canned expressions'...or even 'talking points'! Us, creative people, do love original thoughts, but maybe people are too tired to think...sometimes!?

0

I never use 'super'.... what irks me is that everything is either a 'system' or a 'solution' or a 'solution system'. like 'whatever is solving all kinds of problems.

1

Like, totally, super annoying.

0

FAR Out is still my go to phrase. Outstanding or WONderful. If I use 'super' it is the sarcastic form.

"The word proper has been much in vogue, and very improperly us'd for a few years past, in the country, and in most kitchens in the City, it has crep't also into the houses among the children, Some say, I am proper sick, others have purchas'd something that was proper dear &c..." From The Diary of Elizabeth Drinker, January 29, 1795

And don't get me started on vocal fry......

0

I haven't heard in usage here in Brookline Ma..but then again I don't hang out with teens or 20somethings..

2

I agree. What really gets me is "totally." I'm totally upset by the word totally. I totally am.

1

I super hate it. heh.

Actually, I missed that one...this time. We had mega, mongo...I won't say how long ago. I was teaching when uber, ginormous were..."big"...hehe...

Anything in excess gets old though. Even sex but its been a looong time since I had that...problem.

0

I don't say super. I use "really."

0

that would be superb

3

That is superficial or superseded per haps superfluous.

3

No offence, but people who say "no offence" before expressing any opinion or thought no matter how inoffensive are also annoying.
