I am not an Atheist, I am Agnostic. There is a difference, actually a huge difference.

look at everyone making decisions about what an atheist is and what an agnostic is when in fact there is such a huge difference that sometimes there is an overlap! i don't happen to have an overlap. but look, someone below said an agnostic doesn't care whether there is a god and an atheist cares very much. well, i am an atheist, not an agnostic, and i do NOT care at ALL whether there are any gods. i know agnostics who don't claim to know whether or not there are any gods and also don't care. so that definition is true of some but it's not true of all, or even most, so it's not definitional at all. it's like saying "dogs are animals who don't bite." "no, dogs are animals who do bite." some dogs bite, some don't, and the definition of dog has nothing to do with biting. the definitions of agnostic and atheist have nothing to do with whether we CARE whether or not there are gods. the definitions also have nothing to do with whether or not we're curious, whether or not we're arroganst (i've heard that too) or whether or not we want proof either way.

so you are an agnostic and not an atheist. okay. fine. that's your business. and you think there is a huge difference. wrong, but okay, whatever. were you planning to support that statement in any way, or even just present what you think the huge difference is?

How long will you be on the fence? When will you make up your mind?

I will let the person who coined the term "Agnostic" speak on the subject . . . .

This is an unfortunate time for the Reply to be broken as trolls can run amok with impunity.

Yes it is but to most Christians if you don't believe and God then you're automatically a atheist...

Nostic or agnostic is a basis of knowing a/theist is placing of belief. Most people are agnostic atheists and frankly a lot of people are agnostic theists. The nostic theists just make themselves look bad.

If we use the definition of an 'atheist' as being someone for whom the evidence for god[s] is not convincing, then all those who aren't actual 'believers' fall into that category & the term 'agnostic' is not needed.

@Duchess_Nyx - It simplifies things if we narrow it down to the two choices: Are you convinced god[s] exist or aren't you ? If you aren't you're an atheist. There's no need for any half-way stage. That's the way I look at it, but you can use any definition that suits you.

@Duchess_Nyx - I agree there's no real 'evidence' but 'believers' will offer things like a tree or a beautiful sunset, or even the cosmos itself, to support their case. Those of us who are a tad more critical will put those down to the wonders of nature & will not be persuaded that there are gods by such 'evidence'.

And I’m the opposite - if you say so 😉

I’m only 99.9% sure all that shit is BS but I’m still leaning towards NO GOD(S) 100%

Ok. 🤷🏻♂️

Many of us are Agnostic or Free Thinkers here.

My perception is that agnostics don’t care one way or the other if there is a god and atheists care very much that there isn’t.

1

Okay,. And?

We're all aware that there's a difference.

Yes there is a BIG difference! Welcome to the eternal debate!

The difference is, Agnostic is about knowledge or lack of knowledge, Atheism is about belief or lack of belief.

Being Agnostic gives me all the reason I need to be an Atheist.

@Esot_Eric After all of your research, have you found any evidence that confirms the existence or non existence of a god? I don't think you have. Without that knowledge you are indeed Agnostic, regardless of how much you research. Your "verdict" is meaningless.

I am a Agnostic too. The difference being I am a Atheist with hope. I believe all major religions are wrong and hope that someday we will discover the right one. I believe the Buddha has shown us the pathways to enlightenment but this to has become corrupted with religious type beliefs and superstition, but at least it is a pathway that I find somewhat acceptable.

i'm what Albert Camus called the "absurd" man. Google it.

I am agnostic Too

IamNone and it doesn't really matter

How do you know if it matters or not? You don't. But, you are probably right.

I understand in an agnostic isn't sure if there is a God or not,
why would you think there was?

This again ...

Not everyone buys into this.

@bingst atheist think for themselves

@bingst Just like not everyone buys into climate change. Words have meaning.
