Neil Gaiman hilariously responds to Christian group demanding Netflix cancel Amazon's Good Omens
[ew.com]
Funniest part was the number of signatures the petition garnered.

Christians never have been very good at fact checking...

The episode where Noah is loading the boat because of the oncoming flood is priceless. The demon and the angel talking about God killing everyone, even the children, and then giving mankind rainbows afterwards as a promise that he won't send anymore floods in the future. The demon saying, I am supposed to be the evil one, and I wouldn't just kill everyone just because I am having a tantrum. I can see why Christians don't like the show. It points out so much stupidity in christianity.

You have that right

Next step- petition Hulu to cancel Lucifer.

I'd like to see them try.

Actually Lucifer was on the Fox network, and fox dropped it. Netflix then picked up the show. Lucifer was also seen as an anti-christian show as well. The basis of Lucifer is that the devil does not cause people to do evil, but the devil punishes those that do evil.

@Kojaksmom "The basis of Lucifer is that the devil does not cause people to do evil, but the devil punishes those that do evil." As it should be and has always been 😉

@Lucifer Whereas the objection to Lucifer the series is that it nails the tropes "Evil Is Cool" and "Evil Is Sexy" right on the head, every single episode I've seen so far. As well as showing the Devil as a sympathetic anti-villain and not an axe-murdering fiend.

@Paul4747 I agree with the Cool and Sexy parts, however, two of the biggest tropes that the show promotes is that Lucifer never lies, and he isn't evil himself, so much so that he was appointed as the sole punisher of evil for all eternity.

@Lucifer I don't know which tropes sum those up, though. Maybe Noble Demon? Affably Evil? Take a crack at them. [tvtropes.org]

two things.

i bet god knows where the show airs... cause she's omniscient.

second, i don't think jeesusy people know what omnipotence is. cause a petition implies need of help.

Probably think it's something to treat with a pill

The Christians always hate it when Lucifer is not shown as an evil Twisted monster. They want to keep their option of going out having fun and then saying the devil made them do it.

Fucking idgits.

Those folks are the best argument for birth control that ever existed.

@1of5 Indeed.

The Netflix and Amazon tweets are priceless. LOL At least we are no longer living in the days when producers would just sit quietly and say nothing. (I remember a local religious tv station did a piece on how evil the movie "The Craft" was back in the '90s. I didn't even want to see that movie until they said I shouldn't.)

I remember Golden Compass getting the same treatment. Worst part of the movie was how badly it deviated from the book.

@chalupacabre And people forget the early years of the "Harry Potter" craze had religious people up in arms, as if their children would run out in the streets and turn old people into toads or something.

@greyeyed123 my sister-in-law claimed membership numbers were on the rise in Wicca, owing to Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings movies. Based on that theory, Chronicles of Narnia must've perplexed millions!

@chalupacabre I used to know a guy who said he read and loved all the Narnia books as a kid, and didn't learn it was a Christian allegory until he was an adult--and it pissed him off, lol. I guess it had the opposite effect as intended.

@greyeyed123 i loved the Narnia series all my life, but after I became leery of religion I switched to When We Have Faces as my favorite C.S. Lewis book.

@birdingnut I liked The Screwtape Letters.

@birdingnut My fifth grade teacher was named Lewis (until she got married that summer) and claimed to be a relative of C.S. Lewis. She read the first book to us after recess every day. (I would be much more impressed with that today than I was then, lol. I just thought it was an interesting factoid.)

I love how Netflix is trolling Amazon Prime

The best Twitter response I heard was, "I went onto Netflix and there's no sign that Good Omens was ever even aired. Something powerful is at work here!"

Also enjoyed Amazon's tweet to Netflix: "We'll cancel Stranger Things if you cancel Good Omens".

What a bunch of fucking idiots.

I just watched trailer #2 of Good Omens! Hilarious! "That show should be cancelled because it is naughty!" says the xtians, as they get drunk, have premarital sex, and watch the show anyway! Fucking bunch of killjoys!

At the end of the series, Prime recommended The Hogfather. More quality Pratchett material.

Back in the day the words "banned in Boston" would make any book a best seller. So keep that shit up chistians you're doing a bang up job.

Amen, brother! lol

I need to watch this.

Some people have to much time on their hands 🙄

I’ve unsubscribed from the Good Omens YouTube channel. Hopefully Hulu hears my message and cancels the tour.

That'll teach 'em!

I read this earlier and posted on Facebook. Laughed a lot. Obviously, no research/fact checking done. Thought to myself that showed a lot of dummies. . .

4

Good to see they still have a rigorous vetting system in place.

I imagine that quite literally none of the signators actually saw ANY of the show (full disclosure, neither have I), they're being fed what they want to hear and this petition is what they're told will please their god.

What do you expect from people who worship a middle bronze aged deity. They obviously haven't got the sense of a rocking horse!

I've been a fan of Neil Gaiman since I read his Sandman series many years ago. Still have them on my bookshelf.

Censorship is a religious tetent!

Without it their god(s) are so powerless!

LOL!

2

I don't mind that the christian community objected, they have to. I loved the brief banter between Netflix and Amazon it was fun. Anyway it was a fantastic series i watched it all and fucking loved it ♥

I wonder if something like that could be made that included islam without triggering off a series of unfortunate real life events?

Nardi Level 7 June 21, 2019

Think Charlie Hebdo answered your Islam question.

That's the funniest fucking thing I've read all week. What a bunch of idiots.

I am now listening to American Gods on cd, another brilliant Gaiman novel. And let's not forget Neverwhere, which I own in book form, on CD and as the BBC series.

Great books!
