[lifesitenews.com] Could this mean they will eventually see their error in ever believing at all? I view this as a step in the right direction. My son was actually talking about this yesterday. Asking if they call god he because they see men as superior.

God is called "he" because the bible writers viewed women as just another kind of property by which they could also reproduce themselves. Their bible book also has god speaking and saying "let us make man in our image." This would appear to say god is a male image because god was interpreted as talking to Jesus and Michael the Archangel. If you are a JW you believe that Jesus was Michael the Archangel. To me it is a lot of hooey!

Well, I have not come upon any religion/cult that has a women in charge. That should explain it all.

Wiccans do.

@ldheinz Except wiccans of course.

Any god would have to be one of reason and order and totally transcend human emotions. It or some neutral pronoun would have to replace he or she.

"U.S. Episcopal diocese votes to stop using masculine pronouns for God" Did he go for an incomplete gender alignment? I often use S/He when uncertain about sex or gender. Perhaps in the future I should refer to any divine authority as S/H/IT … not such a bad idea.

Now what pronoun will they use? It?

While I am thrilled the charges were dropped, I don't see this result as much of a victory for sanity. Margaret Atwood didn't think of anything this absurd. That prosecutors would even consider such bizarre charges shows how justice in the USA has ceased to exist. An oligarchy run by a person with a personality disorder presiding over racists, gun toting whack jobs and sadists. What a shithole country. It does show how quickly things can decline. I would never have dreamed America would become such a sad, corrupt place.

I also found this comment interesting in the article: "“Over the centuries our language and our understanding of God has continued to change and adapt,”." This concept isn't typical of religion. Most refuse acknowledge that they ever had anything but a complete understanding of God. Mormons like to say that God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Even when changes occurred, they were never really addressed or explained, they just happened and the membership was just supposed to accept it without question - and believe that no change occurred.

Going to have to re-write all those Christian songs with "It" instead of "him" Priceless!

I've recently watched several Youtube videos about creation myths of different cultures. Very many of them began with male and female entities with the male typically creating or dwelling in the sky and the female the earth. I recall once reading that very ancient Hebrew writings (perhaps they were just Middle Eastern since they all barrowed heavily from one another) which described the creation of the earth in terms similar to childbirth. As I recall, this same author also claimed that ancient Hebrews were polytheistic and as several other examples he sited, the culture paied down the pantheon until only one - typically seen as the king of all the Gods - remained. If this is an accurate description (and except for the possibility of my poor memory) it is as likely why a male God remained in the conversion to monotheism. Males were the rulers and they preferred, or perhsps required, a male God - like unto themselves.

I think the Israelite scribes, in the 6th century BCE, took the huge body of information that had been amassed over time and put the most literal interpreation on it that they could, dumbing it down to the lowest common denominator. I think that's why we got the ignorance of the Genesis story and the insanity of stories like the one about Samson.

If there are gods.
Wouldn’t they be In Two parts ..
Dualities are kinda natural

Many of the very earlies religions , worshiped females , as females created life . Nine months is a long time between sex and fruition , so initially , they most likely didn't make the connection . Men had to create male Gods , to prove they were as good as women .

Not unusual these days for progressive congregations, my local Methodist church specifically welcomes athiests.

Never new "Abba" was god. Come on their music was OK but that's taking it a bit far

Mama Mia, there you go again! Can’t you hear the drums? You know you couldn’t escape even if you wanted to. Feel the beat of her tambourine and Sing a new song.

It's their names - Anni-Frid, Benny, Bjorn, Agnetha.

Of course they see men as superior and the bible and quran both support that claim.

@Allamanda Have you read "The Alphabet Vs. the Goddess" by Leonard Shlain? It puts forth a theory attempting to explain the shift, over just a few centuries, from majority matriarchal to majority patriarchal religions. I'm not sure I agree with his conclusions, but it's a rather interesting book.
