Has anyone actually paid for Match.com or is it the load of garbage I think it is? Double garbage points for being in a small town. You used to be able to look at messages without a subscription. No more apparently 😒

Meh.

If you can't French a gal's mind with snappy patter, you won't be getting anywhere. French their minds and their bodies will follow. If you live in a small town, it's likely you live within an hour's drive of a big town. Suck it up and blow twenty bucks on gas.

Yes, you will wind writing messages to dead letter boxes. Keep a form letter for cut'n'paste to the masses.

Overall, you'll be better off making snappy patter with the locals.

Gals will be wondering where the rocks are when they start getting e-mail from the socially inept. These guys have got to have been riding under rocks, right?

Never used any pay to date site .... to me it seems much too close to paying a pimp .....
pay for sex? never have , never will ... excepting the dinners, evenings out, dresses, sexy undies ... this could become an almost endless list of payments ...

Good luck to anyone about never using a paid dating site. After a certain age, they become the only real viable way to meet anyone for most people, unless they are above average looking. As for all the other ways that men indirectly pay for sex, I hear you bro, we all pay as men, either directly or indirectly...even in this day and age.....but then again, so do some sugar mamas......the only men who don't pay are gigilos and male prostitutes, I suppose...

I live in a metro area of a few hundred thousand. For almost two years, Match was pretty much a waste of time for me. I met a new woman on average about every two to three months. For some reason that changed late this summer and suddenly I started getting a lot more interest from women who were not only compatible on paper, but also physically attractive to me as well. Before then I would only meet women who were compatible on paper, but usually without any physical attraction on my part. To be bluntly honest, I think what swung things was the ending of summer, much larger enrollment on the site for my local area and age range, and with that, suddenly there were way more women that were compatible on interests, background, personality but also more average looking women than before that had those compatible traits. In a nutshell, I was no longer having to choose pretty much between women who were not attractive to me or were else above average-looking and out of my league on looks.

It's a funny, puzzling numbers game that online dating is. I am currently dating a woman steadily from Match that I really am enjoying for the month so far that we've been dating. My subscriptions to Match and Our Time are both paid, because without that all you can do on either site really is browse, which, to me, is useless if you really want to meet people.

I know people who payed for march and got everything they wanted out of it. Also, I know people who paid and were disappointed. Basically, you have to decide if youd want to meet people and risk disappointment

POF is free (they harangue you to pay, ignore them) and IMO had far less married bastards. I just paid for 6 months of OurTime, not excited at all, except they do a good job of finding people in your immediate area.

I've read most of the posts here and what others are saying is true. In my own experience I have also noted that if sites suddenly get a foreign owner your local choices disappear. You might have state choices only. It is a business and really not for your satisfaction.

Yes I've paid a couple times but they give men a guarantee, if you don't fall in love in 6 months the next 6 are free. But WARNING, they don't take profiles off the site of people no longer on there. So you could be messaging someone who will never get it. I guess if you just wait for contacts to come to you you'll be ok. However, in my experience the same people on match are also on the free sites. Depending on how important it is for you to find someone, should be your determining factor on whether to do it--you can't win if you don't play

Most people from Match are on other sites. I've seen it by browsing other sites and from OT. All sites have a lot of old, inactive profiles. Also, I got two free six month subscriptions from Match after not finding anyone. I was on the end of one of those when I met the woman I am now dating. Took almost two years to meet anyone right for me and someone to date steady. Match no longer appears to offer the free six month thing anymore to men if you don't meet anyone steady, so I lucked out on that. I still ended up paying for three six month memberships on Match.

So far, I’d have to say match is a complete waste of money, same as Fitness Singles.
The nice thing about Match is that they send an email to show what a loser I am in comparison to others (probably not in a small town market)

I've paid for OKCupid and Zoosk, and I've connected with a few and even met a couple. I have to attribute my lack of success to the fact that I'm just not attractive enough.

No offense Bit, you're probably right about that. I know that, and being very offbeat for my local dating market, were probably why I had almost two years of failure. It is what it is.......

Nope - not gonna let you get away with that one ... you're a whole lot better looking than so many on dating sites. That's not it. Attitude ? Not really into it ? Not making much of an effort ? Personality ? Self image ? Just plain 'ole bad timing or luck perhaps ?

@evergreen which one of us were you responding to?

@BitFlipper You.

@evergreen I hate to challenge someone who is obviously giving me a compliment, but I am sincerely trying, and I think have a good personality. I'm kind and attentive. My self-image is based on the reactions of others, so it's generally pretty low.

@BitFlipper You may never know ... so many variables !

It was a waste of my money. Small town woes here, too.

When I quit Match.com, they sent me emails saying I had a message. Untrue.

That's how many of the sites lure people back in - by generating curiosity over fake correspondence ! Bastards.

No.

I did have free accounts on match, pof, okcupid, and senior match. No longer on any.

Pof was the most active with the least restrictive free account.

Free match.com, okcupid, and senior match were pretty worthless if you did not pay

3

Nope never pay it's useless

I have paid for Match in the past. It was not worth it.

Me too - long ago. There was no way to tell which profiles were active, and thus could respond. Maddening.
