I haven't been here in a long time, i started here when the site was just starting up and made a few friends along the way but it felt like the site didnt have an exact sense of direction yet and alot of people i saw as regulars slowly left while new ones came to take their place. Was hoping someone could give me an update on the status of the site and how things are now.

I just enjoy the site, even though it still seems to be torn between a dating site and a place for nonbelivers to exchange thoughts and ideas.

For me it is a nice change from Facebook, because here there are no ads, and on Facebook I have to deal with people who don't really use their minds all that often.

'exchange thoughts & ideas' what a novel concept. However, people engage with the site for diverse reasons.

Three years here - with one, two week hiatus 🙂 It’s working, growing, and richer than ever! But an interesting aspect is that ‘what you see’ is not what we long-timers see… You may see a cluttered, uncut version; the same thing a newcomer sees.

Thanks to the magic of Blocking, I miss the multitude of ..link-posts (provocative one-liners based on ‘a link’ - if a dozen in a row!), or the crazy rantings of those proclaiming the world is flat 😉 My ‘board’ is prettymuch necked down to those with something pertinent to discuss, or not.

And though mates have been found, it’s evolved into far more than a ‘dating site.’ It remains a place to learn, share, debate, strategize and mobilize. There were ..until recently.. a pack of far wrong posters who’d dog the posts of anyone not inline with ‘fox’ propaganda.. But they’ve disappeared.

I’ll assume the many Groups are still around, perhaps filled with disgruntled trumpers … but since I only belong to one, which remains inactive, I’d say the main board (right here) is where it’s at! There was a time I feared for the continuation of it all, but now realize it’s obtained critical mass - with enough participation to weather any storm. Good stuff!

You get out of it what you put into it, at least that's how it works for me.

I do not think a group of people under any one banner, but especially this one, will ever have "sense of direction"

Exactly! What 'sense direction' should this be moving in?

@Atheist3 East! No, West! Maybe Up? (That was a Great movie!)

@AnneWimsey Over, under, sideways, down!😉

er, it wasn't really that the people had a sense of direction more like the admin/owner of the site was adding new random features or removing others like once a week

Nowhere to go but down, baby, down! 😀

@Sarcasm

I joined in October 2017, a month after you did. Didn't participate in the posts for six months. Forgot I joined.

At first, angry Trumpsters often attacked me for being a Democrat. I blocked and reported about 40 of them for violating community guidelines.

That stopped. Yay! It's a relief not to be called nasty names.

Sorry for saying nasty things, sorry but I do have a temper.

You could've stuck around and influenced what direction the community went... Right now, we have many good community members here and a handful of crybabies... But we're okay... 😊

Eeny meeny miny moe... which side do I land on?? LOL

@IamNobody you're no crybaby 😋😊🤣😂

@Cutiebeauty awwwww ....... and that was my Christmas present !!!! Thanks !!!

i wasn't a major part of the community at the time anyway, i was here near the start and posted alot so i stayed near the top cuz it used to show who regularly posted, idk if it still does that, but i found other things to occupy my time, this is a nice place but not something i was trying to invest alot of time into lol, i had other things going on

Relative newbie here but I've found that any place is what you make it.

5

I’ve been here a few years now , I joined a couple of groups but don’t participate in them but I comment and post here and there . People come and go it’s life . I like some of the comments here and some I move past , that’s the beauty of it .

5

One of the best groups I've come across. Everyone seems up for lots of different types of discussion without the name calling you get on a lot of sites.

4

It's fantastic.
People still come and go.
That's how life works.

4

Just go with the flow, if you like it, stay. If you don't, bye bye.

4

How is the site doing? Stick around and investigate.

@admin used to be a bit more involved in daily operations. The sites more stable now ( bugs, crashes, server issies), plus more hands off in terms of look and feel. For instance the front page is no longer curated, admin doesnt decide what should or shouldnr be on it. Its just a feeed of recent posts, and each user decides what they want to see, via the little setings icon on the front page.

The content is still a mix of crabby people arguing about religion and philophilosophy, varioux political discussions, news and politics, and dating woes. Tneres much less emphasis on dating but it's still there.

There issiues about who should talk to who, how to act, still wax and wane. The groups section of the site works / is more functional than it used to be, so if people want to be exclusive, they often use groups.

Two years ago, this site had a wider variation in membership and a more open exchange on all topics. Most of the unnecessarily aggressive right-wingers have left, but they did their damage. Partly to avoid the sting of bitter exchanges, more narrow interest group have segregated themselves, and the open exchange is lessened -- and less rich.

Two years ago this site was Tiny! I believe there are approx. 90,000 More members now

@AnneWimsey I doubt that figure.

@wordywalt I get regular emails from this site with numbers of new members, numbers of new posts. You can easily look it up!

What do you mean with more open exchange on all topics. Seems to me that people are very open here and say whatever they want. I don't think groups have formed to avoid bitter exchanges but more for the sake that it is their interests. There is still plenty of right wing assholes but they get easily blocked, bad language and bad behaviour should not be tolerated in anyway.

I think he's suggesting that people have sort of "camped-up," as little peer groups are segregating themselves into teams. And I think compared to two years ago that's more true than false. I could be wrong.

2

Better than ever !!! (Sarcasm LOL ). Welcome back

2

Some of us are real people and some like to pretend to be porn stars.

LOL are there really that many people pretending to be porn stars on here?! XD

So far, I have nothing to compare it with. Ahhhh, let me see, no I got nothing.

I joined on November 20th, 2019 and this is now my favourite website/social media app.

1

A sense of direction, what does that mean exactly. There are many people here and they are all different, some things we may have in common but a lot we don't. There are groups here with special interest I am sure you can find one that will suite you or you can start one yourself. Things are never just black and white, there are many shades even of them. Just chill.

Compared to when?
It seems dominated by atheists of the rude and dogmatic variety...does that sound familiar? Even though it's called Agnostics.com (oh AND freethinkers, atheists, humanists etc.) you wouldn't know it by the way they throw their weight around, belittle, berate, and insult anyone who disagrees with them.
Even without provocation, they mock agnostics who, for example, subscribe to purple dragons in the garage, unicorns, fairy castles in the sky, etc. It's really quite obnoxious how they distort the agnostic point of view by saying we 'believe in' god, when we actually have no firm opinion one way or the other, but merely entertain the possibility.
I suspect it hasn't changed much.

I have not found that here
It's nice to have friends who aren't praying for me or attempting to evangelize me.

Stay out of religious discussions. That's what improved the site for me.

That’s some serious Projection… Please, ignore me 🙂

@Varn that is exactly what I thought and was going to say....

@Allamanda I'll cheer up AFTER Xmas is over! My attitude improves immediately thereafter, starting with December 26, and skyrockets around New Year's Eve!
It's gonna be a great 2020...I can see it now (get it?).

You're too cute. Mama ever tell you that you get what you give (project) in this life? No? Well, it is on full display in your post. As you rant, so you receive. Perhaps there's a truly nice person behind all that vitriol. I would hope so, because most angry people are just hurting.

Trust me. If you are all "woo" over unicorns, you have more problems than this site......

@AnneWimsey Unicorns? Truthfully, I rarely think about them. Pegasus is a unicorn with wings, right? I went to the Kentucky Derby one year and they are very popular there.

I don't see agnostics treated badly by atheists, at least not as often as you're suggesting. I must be missing it. But yeah, plenty of crabbiness all around. We're an opinionated lot, that much is certain. 🙂

As the great philosopher would have said, "It is what it is."

Been here since April 2018 .... for me is has been useful as a way of fine tuning my sense of self...there is much acrimony mixed into the peace and love...it has only been recently that I have been a bit more regular in tuning in.... I am equally surprised, amused and horrified.... similar to the rest of the world... I had expectations.... which is always dangerous....

If you're looking for love (I'm not), it might be a decent place to find it. If you're looking for fresh insight, it's hit or miss. If you're looking for pulpits of the secular variety, it's more hit than miss. If you're looking for peer validation, it's a field goal from 50 yards.

So whatcha lookin' for?

Hot and cold. It all depends on what you make of it.
