Logic is not a common thing in the minds of religious zealots... How can a 'good' omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent power see what his creation will turn into and create it any way? Also, created the devil, knows that devil will be the bane of his creation and creates that devil anyway despite knowing the outcome. Then blames his creation for being influenced to do bad by his evil creation that he knows would be evil. What is the greater evil?

I actually heard a religious person on U.S. network television say that logic is the work of the devil. God's wishes are not supposed to be logical. ???? Crazy stuff.

I saw that video too... I was dumbfounded.

It’s called BLIND faith

And with the GREATEST emphasis on the BLIND bit in my opinion.

I do not think it is logical to waste my precious only life thinking about nonsense....

A better question would be, "Why did we create God?"
One theory is that community and tribal type rules of behavior enforced by a charismatic leader don't expand out to more than two to three hundred members effectively. But a belief system in an invisible being who is an immortal leader can unite a much larger population - such as the Vatican ruling over a billion Christians. The Pope is the invisible ruler's agent. A belief system makes it possible to rule over a large population.

As a business plann , it's extremely effective . You get lots and lots of money . respect , even affecion , for next to no output . The cardinals , more commonly known as princes of the church , and preachers such ad Billy Graham and Joel live in palaces , travel first class , etc .

@Cast1es ...and take all of that money from the less fortunate who need it more. They don't even pay taxes for all of that luxury.

I think it’s a bit tough on the Devil getting the blame for humans being pricks!!

Seems that the Devil is doing a better job than God. His purpose is to give freedom of choice to mankind. That would be a matter of discussion for a while... Lol!!!

It is all just a fanciful story.

God created Adam and Eve. They ate the forbidden fruit. God is an imperfect creator. God tried to fix his mistake by wiping it out with a flood. Trying again, God spared one family to start repopulating the world. We torture and kill each other. God goofed again.

In the beginning it explain Adam and Eve would be like the most high having knowledge of Good and evil. So, a "creator" that knows such as the fact evil exist, isn't specifically creating an only "good" creation. So, then "god" thingie, creator knows theres both good and evil with in what is created. I tagged you in post for video, it is better explination and suggest watching if you want a better vh understanding of what was originally written.

It is a story that is no different than Star Wars. At least Star Wars is less misogynistic. A contradictory fairytale that has been accepted by billions as fact.

When observing or learning of cults, the formulas are the same. There is no logic … only a paradox of twisted make-believe scenarios in which some devious human comes out on top.. Playing on the fears and ignorance of humanity is easy, too easy ~

Varn Level 8 Dec 25, 2019

"...some devious human...." Have anyone with Orange hair in mind?

I agree that logic is not a common thing among the religious zealots "on the street." However, it is at a premium in academics, and a summary of--and bibliography for--the logical thought that has gone into the philosophicial/theological treatment of this issue through the centuries can be found at [plato.stanford.edu] .

And this all know god create a torture chamber for those who finds the story too hard to believe. All the while knowing in advanced that many woulndt buy the bullshit but does it anyways.

Those are issues I have always had as well growing up as a Christian. I’ve not seen or found any argument to be satisfactory in answering those problems.

Can't seem to recall atm whether I read it posted here or elsewhere amongst all the materials I read/have read but it went something like this,
" The history of events are only ever record by the Winner and are so recorded as to favor the actions, etc, of the Winner, therefore, here is a 'What IF' scenario to ponder over."
" What if this biblical 'War' in Heaven was won NOT by this Benevolent Deity we MUST call God but by the entire opposite Deity, i.e. the personification of ALL things Evil, Cruel and Vicious and the TRUE Benevolent Deity was defeated and cast out, then to be proclaimed by the Victor as being Evil Incarnate simply to propagate a favorable LIE to cover up and justify that actions Incarnate Evil one?"
Is that not, in simple terms, how we humans would write and accept such a story i.e. the Devil is and was the Good, Kind, Understanding and Benevolent One and NOT the opposite as we are led to believe?

In short, "History is written by the victors."

Well said!

I agree with your every word, girl.

Just one of the bible's fictional characters 🙂

It's a matter of "Garbage in, garbage out." the contradictions in the biblical account of creation begin almost immediately. Cain married who? And where did she come from?

Logic flaws are inherent in all of us. Really it's more about wishful thinking and the amazing ability to suspend disbelief in the face of overwhelming odds.

1

A mind all logic is like a knife all blade, it makes the hand bleed that uses it.

@seminarian @mrdmc here is the best video I have come across that explains the garden of pleasure "MYTH" from the original language. I think it does a lot to bring out the genius of the story when understanding the original language. Whereas the English translation gives some slight differences understanding that is not as originally intended and takes away from the story genius.

Great video. Yes I prefer the Jewish interpretations. They are usually pretty consistent with "New Thought" Christian interpretations.

I don't believe much of the OT was intended to be taken literally. The Devil is clearly (to me anyway) intended to represent the human ego. He does battle within human minds with higher thought represented by the Christ Spirit. Before Jesus begins his ministry he does battle with Satin on the Mount of Temptation. To me its a story about Jesus defeating his egoistic notions about power that occurs in his own mind. Try reading th story from that point of view and it makes a lot of sense. Jesus' rebuke of Peter "Get behind thee Satan" makes sense from that perspective as well.

Satan originally was a term meaning adversary or one that opposes, not specifically the name of a being just because it opposed "God" if I remember correctly there is scripture that explains "God" sent an adversary or "a satan", to oppose things men did because they opposed what "God" wanted.

Also trying to develop a theory to explain, assign or reject omnipotence on grounds of logic has little merit, since being omnipotent, in a Cartesian sense, would mean the omnipotent being is above logic, a view supported by René Descartes.[20] He issues this idea in his Meditations on First Philosophy. This view is called universal possibilism.[21] wikipedia

Hmm. There's no theory being developed here. This is just a deduction of the beliefs if Christian 'believers' and what is considered as good in our society... So religious zealots are above logic or they accept evil that is above logic?

@HumanistA if you about the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Logic is good, illogical is evil. Evil exist it could be put into a form of words but it exist.

Logic etymology has to do with words, speach and reasoning. logic (n.)
mid-14c., logike, "branch of philosophy that treats of forms of thinking; the science of distinction of true from false reasoning," from Old French logique (13c.), from Latin (ars) logica "logic," from Greek (he) logike (techne) "(the) reasoning (art)," from fem. of logikos "pertaining to speaking or reasoning" (also "of or pertaining to speech" ), from logos "reason, idea, word" (see Logos). Formerly also logick. Sometimes formerly plural, as in ethics, but this is not usual. Meaning "logical argumentation" is from c. 1600. Contemptuous logic-chopper "sophist, person who uses subtle distinctions in argument" is from 1846.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the logos, the logos was with God and was God. John 1:14 ... the logos become flesh.

What the biblical text is saying is that the things spoken in the old testiment, come to life by the power of spoken words.
