No wonder why there is community transmission of coronavirus

What should we be doing as a responsible society to prevent spread and infection? I keep reading about many lax responses to possibility of disease spread such as this. Why is someone who is traveling in from affected region allowed to travel with others as though there is no transmission risk? What about mask wearing? Once returned to the US, to then come here and use public transportation seems an egregiously sloppy disease prevention tactic. As though NOONE is actively working to prevent this very type of occurance.I would expect all returning US citizens from affected regions to be assumed infected and kept away from others, self- quarantined and if possible, tested before returning to society. With the right to travel internationally comes the responsibility to follow BASIC COMMON SENSE DISEASE TRANSMISSION PREVENTION STRATEGIES. Why is this behavior being allowed? Returning travelers should be questioned on how they plan to travel home, plans for quarantine and warned of not being in public. If we are not capable of following these basic safeguards then flights in from affected regions should be stopped.

Additionally, the slow response in availability of testing kits was a medical fumble that will have grave consequences for many. Again, the reality of those missteps and the obvious casual response with citizens returning from abroad makes the situation appear ever more ominous. Just this weekend alone cases rose from 164 (number reported on CDC website as of 3/7/20) and now news reports are saying 550 cases. So cases have increased almost fourfold in 2 to 3 days? I remember when China was reporting 500 cases. And now? Where will we be in another week? One has to wonder about the original fumble and the continued fumbles we are seeing daily. [theatlantic.com]
