Anne there were 97 confirmed cases as of Monday in Connecticut. With 2 deaths.

and Eastern Connecticut is still clear of cases so far... (I fully expect that will change). But the disease jumped from NY to here with two hospital workers.

To find testing call your primary care provider or call 211(in the US).

This is for help in the US with all issues- the Infoline can point you to the right services:

It is Thursday....your #s were obsolete by the end of Monday....

Yes we live in a dangerous world but with common sense and a little preparedness we can live to fight another day. Getting sick itself can be pretty inconvenient at best. Try to self distance and isolate when possible.

It'll be gone soon. The heat will kill it like a miracle.

Are you being facetious? You sound like trump. Since this is a novel virus meaning a new or original virus no one knows if warmer weather will have a mitigating effect. I'd be reluctant to bet the lives of millions of people on that presumption.

@rogueflyer I'm paraphrasing our great leader with his room temperature IQ from just a week and a half ago.

@Sgt_Spanky Thank you. I was hoping you were kidding.

Yeah, because nobody ever got a cold in warmer weather......

Dont believe the hype. If you live in fear, your life will lose a lot of value.

Also, the numbers do not tell the story of 35 deaths all from one single nursing home.

Its sad, but certainly the narrative has gotten out well ahead of the virus itself.

Currently 161 Deaths, 10,816 cases with 108 recovered.

A hopeful stat for this in the U.S. is the ratio of infected over total population. We are doing fairly well.

And we are still at the front of the curve as the numbers have shown.

The US is not testing nearly as extensively as some other affected countries.

Not really possible. I have to have food.

If you have enough water you can actually go without food for a month and still be very healthy. Probably not anyone's favourite way to lose weight. 🤔

@Cyklone I am 5'11" and weigh 155 lbs. Weight is not a real problem. I smoke a lot of weed. Not eating is not remotely possible. Giving up weed is not remotely possible, so I will be going grocery shopping.

@Sticks48 then stay safe. 🙂 Are you going to buy a gun too, seems to be the thing over there 🤣🤣🤣 Just taking the piss. 🙂

@Cyklone Why would I buy a gun? I get the munchies, not the desire to go on a killing spree.

@Sticks48 just stirring you because it seems to be a thing with many of your countrymen. Toilet paper and a pistol. Perhaps so that if you run out you can rob your neighbour. 😄

One possible explanation for dramatic increases in cases within the US is that testing was slow to be available to everyone. As testing increases and conducted on a much wider scale, the more cases that had previously gone untested and undetected will come to light. Low numbers which the administration has quoted as "doing a great job" is meaningless when testing is limited. It gives a false picture and allows undetected cases to mingle with the population and to unknowingly spread the disease.

I do not know of a single test or testing place here in CT.

I was told yesterday that there was a current order in place to only test hospital in-patients in my state. I said,"Do you see how this would give an absolutely FALSE representation of infected " Where are Pences1 million test kits?

Thats a weird perspective considering everyone who has died of it has been tested. So the only thing testing will do is weaken the mortality rate %'s, as most people who are carriers don't even get sick or show symptoms.

@BryanLV - Even if someone does not feel sick they can still infect others. This is what a carrier is. What I read is that those areas that had the most effective containment of the disease and potentially saving the most lives have conducted wide scale testing and taking appropriate measures of treatment for anyone testing positive. Testing isn't about driving down the mortality rate of this disease, it is about preventing its spread and especially to those who will be most adversely effected which includes those most likely to die from it.

Yes, everyone who has died and many more likely showing symtoms have been tested. Much more is needed. The WHO offered the US tests they had been using and ready to go. The US declined preferring to develop our own test. Then the developers had a glitch and the development of the test was delayed. This has been acknowledged by Dr. Fauci with the Trump administration and is not "leftist propaganda".

Until we are able in the US to accomplish wide scale testing to determine who is infected and can spread COVID-19 to others, and perhaps even afterwards, our best means of protection against the disease is social distancing.

@RussRAB I disagree that this about anything other than mortality. Otherwise, why publish the rates? There are a number of more deadly, equally contagious viruses that have been known for many years.

The reaction is far out of proportion to the threat of illness or death. I will panic when there is cause, not because I was prompted to by the irrational fears of others.

Enjoy your quarantine, though. Im on my way out the door.

Ciao.

@AnneWimsey - I don't know of any testing places in Texas where testing is going on. I would think this is because we don't have an abundance of tests available. Tests would be reserved for those who appear to need them most.

@BryanLV, yes, it’s always better to panic after the fact than to do our best to get ahead of the inevitable outcome of ignorance and selfishness. Why anti-vaxxers cry about their children getting sick and want a cure after the fact, rather than getting vaccinated and avoiding the disease like they should have.

@BryanLV - The cause is known, it's COVID-19. The vector for transmission at this point is also know, it's person to person contact particularly from coughing or sneezing so close contact will promote transmission from an infected person to a noninfected person. I also understand but am less certain that this virus can remain alive on surfaces like doornobs longer than many other pathogens.

We have dealth with other pathogens which made it the US such as the zika virus. The mode of transmission for this disease was misquitos and required different protocols for combating it. We cannot simply say that COVID-19 equals zika virus equals the flu etc. Each is differentband each requires examination to understand how to combat it.

Testing in the US lags far behind other nations.

My apologies, I originally linked the wrong article.

@RussRAB ummm, it can also live on hard surfaces (like plastic packaging) for perhaps up to 3 weeks.

Antsy… I’d walked uptown a day ago.. Seemed everyone who could drive - was! Only person I talked with was my boss ..having pulled over when seeing me.

For some reason, the evening ..traffic (though rural) has been dead, but ‘now,’ middle of the day - they’re fuckin crazy! Yah, I’m hunkered down … do my ‘night patrol’ walking loop while most are in bed.. I’m rambling 🙂

Do you want to live forever?

I'd like another twenty years or so. I'd review my situation again at that time.

The USA is in just the very beginning stages. Expect a sharp, exponential daily rise. Spain is in complete lockdown, but cases are increasing more rapidly each day.

My advice is stop Googling and keep the head down!

3

Don't worry, all those spring breakers in south beach will be home soon to share their exposures . . .

Yur dressed appropriately 😉

@Varn I thought that was the bubonic plague

@oldFloyd It was . . .and falsely thought to be effective
No Germ theory yet

I think Neil de Grasse nailed it, said "its a global experiment we are all part of, the question is "Will human beings believe the scientists or not?"

AND they are still partying in FL tonight . . .

@Davesnothere A very large group saying, no we don't believe the scientists.

Soooo yesterdays news........

@AnneWimsey Not every google result is reliable. CT's web site is.

@bingst ummmm, if a post is more than 6 hours old, it is Not accurate, not anywhere or from any source. Which is the point of my post! For example, the link you provided is from the 19th, but by tonite it will be Wrong. And it does not even mention New London County where I live......because we have NO testing kits or places to get tested, at all.

@AnneWimsey It looks as though there have been two deaths in CT, not 68 or 97.
[courant.com]

@AnneWimsey That's not just any web site. That is CT's government web site. The .gov at the end means it's a government web site. It was updated at 4:30 pm, and I'm guessing it will update at that time today. Georgia is updating theirs at noon each day. To get more up-to-the-minute updates, I would rely on local reputable news sources. Not just google results.
