I just watched a good portion (forced myself) of ‘The River Church,’ in Tampa Fla, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about as he is still holding his service inspite of this corona virus.

It is clear to me that these pastors (Rodney Howard-Browne here), are powerful preachers, i would call the whole service ‘intoxicating!’ These people are on ‘fire’ ...really on fire! Right down to their ‘rock concert!’ Saving people like this from their folly is never going to happen! They are prepared to die! Apparently to them living and dying is all the same...they have nothing to loose!

That church was full (it is one of those ‘mega churches&rsquo😉 but they were conscious enough about danger that they were standing several feet apart! But, the problem isn’t wheather they want to die...the problem is the people who may interact with one of them who is carrying the coronavirus AND wants to live! This kind of Evangelism is not going to change anytime soon...they are ‘way out there’...in their altered state! There are not enough professionals in this whole Country to make a dent in this nightmare! Plus, we have a president who fits perfectly into their world view! This Country is in so much ‘doo doo!’ I may be forced into exile on my own property! I am not ready to die...I am not finished here!

They are undoubtedly unhinged, but dangerous to all. Stay safe in your bunker at home....this too will pass, and so will Trump!

Not quickly enough for my tastes

Thanks for that reassurance...sometimes when one looks at the big picture, it sure seems to be closing in on us! This complete intoxication is not easily overridden in people!

@Larimar. True...but it won’t be forever and fretting won’t make it happen any quicker

I noticed a lot of don't care if they die, good for them to be gone comments - well - their deaths don't bother me, but those asshole, greedy muthers could pass it on to others.

The girl scouts had the right idea selling cookies outside of a legal marijuana retailer. If only I had invested in a hazmat suit with oxygen tank and several million oxygen masks.

I'm not watching that nonsense... Stupidity is contagious also...

I keep trying to get behind the motivations, just in case I can shed light on one of them! But, no one is going to tare those people from their ‘golden calf!’ They have now left this reality...

That it is ... Thanks for the laugh Cb.

There is an old minister joke about a man sitting on his roof during a flood and praying for Jesus to save him as the water rises. He turns down help from 3 people. one in a rowboat, one in a motor boat and one in a helicopter, because his faith that Jesus would come was so strong. After drowning he finally meets Jesus and asks why he didn't help. Of course any of us can figure out the punch line.( Hey, its a Minister Joke it doesn't have to be funny.)

It might be nice if all who wanted to break stay at home rules could just be sequestered in their houses of worship they prefer over the relative safety of their own homes until either that danger has passed or they all have from the virus being spread withing their groups. It would be the best way to protect the rest of the communities those who want to illegally attend services after they return home but it is also still to draconian for our society to undertake...... yet.....

Now there is an idea that never crossed my mind! Shelter in place...set up portable hospital space right there...medical staff (ofcourse same ideology), and praying all in the same location! 😇

They all can die for all I care, nature culls the chaff.

I guess it is sad to see them go, but I’ll get over it!

3

But didn't you know ? Prayer will keep them all safe !

They called it being ‘bold’...’when confronted with a virus, be bold!’ ‘Then get bolder!’ ‘Amends’ everywhere! Lol. They want even need to pass out ‘Koolaid’ to that congregation...they are already near the next dimension, one more push and their gone! It’s a pity! But, I can let go...as I have found I have no power against an earthquake!

Large congregations will spread cronovirus quickly, even if they stand 2m apart and wear masks, I think. The airborne virus can travel 3m and masks aren't 100% effective. Moreover, the virus will land on surfaces, such as pews, and people will get it on their hands. Hand to face, and you are probably infected. Furthermore, masks are a scarce commodity. I imagine few in the congregation had one. Some will meet their maker sooner than expected. Hallelujah.

They didn’t...it was the defiance that got me! The preacher said they disinfected that church and it was the cleanest purest building there is...lol. I am going to try and save myself and I hope I can stay as far away from ‘idiots’ like that. If they want to die, who am I trying to stop them! They are insisting...lol

While I do have some compassion in my heart for the delusional sheep that go to get sheared each week, I have no pity for the psychopaths who are doing the shearing. Only a heartless and unfeeling psychopath would be willing to do such things to others, it is inhumane and vile.

I see a lot of wisdom in Max Plank's words: "A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.”

I've also seen it put more succinctly, "Science advances one funeral at a time."

I'm just seriously impressed you could sit through any of it 😉

I got it in my news feed, I skipped a lot of the concert part! Lol. But I did stay thru the whole ‘rundown’ on how you can donate! It blew me away that you can now charge your donations to your credit card! We must be loosing sight as a society as to how money needs to be spent?

Well put. This is totally predictable in this country and, as you say, they are not about to "change their spots".

Yesterday I watched the news and he is arrested now.

As he should be...however ‘he is in with Flynn’...his lunatic trump friend... so he will be congratulated is my guess! 😱

Hence the creation of the Darwin awards.
Unfortunately that streak of Darwinism involves the rest of us in a race to the bottom.
On the plus side, it does appear that some people do understand that this will be bigger that 'the flu'.
In the meantime, stay safe and healthy.

For sure...be well and safe yourself!

Rock concert is s good term, as those performances serve as entertainment to some folk. The fact that these preachers are doing this would suggest that they, too, are in denial or truly delusional. Some other "faith healers" now won't likely lay a hand on anyone.

Sad that many more will be infected and sad that they won't be able to make the connection because it will take them a couple of weeks to get sick.

Another documentary that was out years ago is Mar Joe, about a tent preacher who went back and attempted to expose the whole racket. He had been exploited and pedaled as a child preacher and grew up understand that this was a way to make lots of money. I believe the film was blocked in certain areas of the South initially.

Money is definitely a motivator! Easy money!

Over half the cases of the nearly 10,000 cases of COVID-19 in South Korea were from members of a Christian sect that told their followers God would protect them from pestilence. Floowers were expected to attend multiple per week services where they were crowded together. Difficult to say how responsible the sect may have been for infecting other Koreans outside their sect. Another South Korean Pastor chastised Christians for staying home and claimed they should feel patriotic if the contracted the coronavirus. As you say, these people are "way out there".

It's a shame that the people in the fourteenth century believed the shame thing only to end up spreading the black plague instead.

I would be willing to bet Rodney Howard-Browne pulled in a lot of cash that day. Where in my honest opinion was the only reason he did it. 😣

Oh! That request and info was really laid out clearly...’give according to how the lord speaks to you’...in that euphoria...I can see people emptying their pockets!

There are a lot of preachers in it for the money but I wonder if others may be addicted to the power and control they have over their "flock"?

@rogueflyer I understand the Jim Jones thing, but he started with the money then discovered the power. IMO 🤔

Money IS the purpose. Expose documentary Mar Joe has undercover cameras of preachers adding and divving up their cash.

It is disheartening to see such things.
And, yes, in a service like that, they will be caught up in the moment and will confuse their altered state of mind to be the spirit of god.
However... we obviously can't get inside their head. We don't know what may go through their mind in moments of despair Nor do we know what doubts they may have.
We can't know what may crack their armor or, to use another metaphor, we can't know what cracks life has put in the lenses of their god glasses.
There is always hope, at least for some of them......
Many of us have found our way out.

I sure hope you are right, but I am seeing more not less of them and I have just about given hope...there are simply too many of them to my oneself!

1

'Mental pollution' kinda thing??🤔

1

I hope none of them contract the coronavirus but they are certainly not taking necessary precautions.

Oh! The pastor gave a long list of things done to sterilize that place! Lol.

@Freedompath He has 13 magic machines that instantly kill the virus.

@rogueflyer it would be laughable, if it wasn’t deadly!

I wonder how many who are prepared to die really are if they get sick will they be calling for the doctor? did the preacher go among the crowd?

Down from the pulpit onto the congregation level walking back and forth at the front row. Hell, as he spoke, i was thinking how easy to sway a person with his conviction and powerful presentation! He has a powerful presence! That’s the real problem, these charismatic personalities could sway anyone in a weak moment and how really easy when a person hears this week after week, they are hooked! Perfect escape from the daily grind and boring reality! The preacher steals their minds!😖
