Since we like verses so much.
Genesis 6:6-7
6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”

God screwed up mostly with humans because he always wanted to destroy them and then have them repopulate again using incest. With that idea in mind he made a way out for us by killing his son. Sounds like a perfect plan.

"The Bible is completely accurate, specially when thrown at close range."

7

Yeah, the Lord has a way of fucking up all the time, which is surprising for a supreme being unless he is just a human construct and therefore imperfect and impotent - then it makes sense. 😀

6

So God is admitting he made a mistake. What an unusual thing for an infallible being to do. He then followed that up by destroying life on a global scale. What an unusual thing for an perfectly moral being to do.

It's almost like it's all just...made up.

And, it is capable of feeling regret. How could this be if it already know how things were going to turn out?

@Joanne This is the part where we're generally told that "God works in mysterious ways." with "mysterious" being a euphemism for "stupid."

Such an omnipotent, omniscient being was burdened with doubt? That's where things got messed up.

Oh the Lord loves some parts of his creations. Glory!

That's the same part I love 😉

The biblical story of the flood was created out of earlier stories. The biblical story is the fourth known incarnation of the story.

Very appropriate video here! 👍

@TheMiddleWay I believe northern Iran and part of Iraq is swampy land. I imagine a strong storm surge would blood the area out , and it would have happened multiple times.

I've also liked the theory that as the last ices age ended, the Red Sea was dry land, but the rising sea levels flooded the area. If so, the stories beign passed down by word of mouth could explain both the origins of flood story and also the end of Exodus where the red sea drowns all the Egyptians, after the hews walked across on dry land. As stories differ from telling to telling and teller to teller.

Unfortunately, the Christian efforts to destroy all competing ancient stories that didn't support Christian dogma/doctrines destroyed about 98% of records, making it hard to trace the actual story origins.

Idle talk, just like Trump, If the God almighty can't rub humanity out, perhaps his cousin (the real almighty) Mother nature can?

4

weird that an all-encompassing flood myth seems to exist in every culture, huh?

It’s part of the Bronze Age oral tradition so feeds into all Middle Eastern culture.

It is more than 4000 years old as its earliest appearance is in the Epic of Gilgamesh

Yeah, its weird that big floods have happened before all over the world huh? 😉

Most of them clearly from very different time periods. Any idea that they all result from different viewpoints of the same flood is superstitious nonsense.

Gosh, I could have sworn the climate was utterly static.

@Observer-Effect makes a great metaphor i guess

This passage is particularly interesting. We learn that god is not all knowing as he made a mistake. We learn that god has "human" emotions. We also learn that god makes mistakes and does not care about humans, animals or the earth. It is amazing to me that when I was a Christian when I read this it did not register. God was all knowing, loving etc. I just glossed over these types of passages and knew god would open my eyes at some later time to its meaning. Yeo, I got that crap figured out now just by reading the passage without my belief filter making excuses that I was just an idiot for not understanding.

It sure is a nice twisted way to make people go insane!

The old testament God is like a murderous bipolar child.

Sounds like ‘man’s idea of overwhelming problems looming and critical creative skills in short supply! Wonder how many times this has taken place over humanities time on earth?

Burning prairie or stampeding bison off cliffs into water is a creative tribal hunting technique but not a global genocide braggart alleged gawd that never happened never existed

3

Sounds about right for the ultimate fantasy tome !

3

You're making the presumption we like verses. Think again.

I actually love them. They are the reason I can justify not believing in a fairy tale. Yea I was so indoctrinate that I read the thing, many, many times. I still do and find gems like this one. On my YouTube channel my outro states. I no longer believe in the Bible, because of the Bible.

3

Who said we like verses so much? You appear obsessed with religion and its books.

Exactly! This post is the only time I was forced to read a bible verse!

2

What the heck did he make us for, or the animals for? Animals struggle to survive, eat or be eaten, it's a brutal life. Humans have factory farms, which are torture facilities for animals.
If this god exists, he is horribly selfish and cruel.

2

What did those little birdies ever do to him?

2

Please, could you rephrase it as "Since I like verses so much"?...

Aww...come on. It's the royal "we."

2

Why do we need the "Lord" to do that. We are doing it well enough all on our own.

2

Hey if at first you don't succeed...... Seriously though, this could reflect an ancient understanding of evolution.

2

Extinction reality!!!

Well, commerce comes first with the American administration, who are the public? Just the fools that finance their dream of richness!

Actually, I hate verses!

This verse alone proves that this so-called Supreme Being, supposedly omniscient and omnipotent, was nothing of the kind. Perfections does not knowingly create imperfection and then test it, knowing it will fail. This mythology is not much different from the creation story of the ancient Greek gods, with Satan filling in for Prometheus and the knowledge of good and evil substituted for fire.

That is why Asimov stopped his apology for "genesis" in earlier chapters....there is zero excuse for this alleged gawd belief just like Hitler and Mein Kamf the Quoran and other books should not be distributed to children and widely condemned for content by decent human beings scientists Atheists Feminists forgive me all 4 is how we are born without religion from free moms with access to science not SUPERSTITION
