So I just watched the commercial where they're trying to convert people and you had to say a prayer that indicated you were a sinner and wanted to accept Jesus Christ in your life. Can you be a Christian and not be a sinner? Please explain.

Don't all Christian accept original sin, so they get you coming or going...or is that just Catholics?

We are all dirty and disgusting sinners (mind you, we are also supposed to be perfect and good because that is how their god made us, but somebody less powerful corrupted that creation and blah blah blah). Fun with English time: Dog is god backwards, so it is the reflection of god (which in sci-fi means it is the opposite). Dogs love to play with "gross" and smelly things. Dogs love to be with us dirty, disgusting humans because they are the opposite of god, and god can't abide being in the presence of sin. I think this only work in English.

But since it is a commercial, I would have called in and told them I am possessed. Put on a real act for fun. Then at the end, say thank you as you are practicing for a role in a theater production and now that you know you can convince a die-hard believer, you should do well on the stage.

If it's commercial I'm thinking about you're supposed to dial the number and somebody will pray with you to save your soul after you send them money. 🤬

Well you did have to repeat the prayer with the guy in the commercial

I think it might be a fun thing to tease a religious person with if they were trying to covert you. Just tell them you have never sinned. Ever. Kind of like Trump when he said he never has to ask for forgiveness in his prayers because he's never done anything wrong.

Then again if you don't believe in God can you really sin? For sure you could break the law or break some arbitrary moral codes but that wouldn't really be sinning.

I've actually done that recently, a woman pulled over to the side of the road to try and convert me--it did not go well for her 😉

Growing up as an unwilling Baptist.....I was taught that we are ALL sinners, because we bear the STAIN of ORIGINAL SIN (thanks, Eve) and so we MUST be ''washed in the blood of the lamb'' to escape that.

Does any of this make sense to anyone?

No, it does not make any sense to me. Having said that, I have never been able to understand weapons grade bullshit.

Makes perfect sense if you're creating a cult and need to persuade folks they really need to join you. It's like making up a disease and telling everyone they have it...

@LucyLoohoo got it Lucy, thanks. did they tell you what happens after you're washed in the blood of the lamb? are you free to sin again? and is accepting jesus the same as being washed in the blood of the lamb or is that different? And if accepting jesus doesnt absolve you of your sin does that mean the the guy in the commercial lied? seriously? a religious person lying? 😉

@anglophone Dried Buffalo patties you use them like a discus deadly at 100 ft. 🙄

@lerlo Interesting thoughts, lerlo! You've just caused me to reflect on what expectations they had...or which ones I had. I suppose that, considering I got mad and quit (at age 10 or 11) I was too young to have any real concept of what ''sinning'' outside the commandments meant. Now--if I were to go back, I'm sure they could have a week's worth of "washing" all ready for me! 🙂 I'm thinking of "Carrie" at the prom......

I think Romans 3:21–24 is generally used to assign sin to everyone — which is an effective way to scare people into falling in line and devoting themselves to the Church:

“But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, as attested by the Law and the Prophets. And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”

There is also of course the Christian interpretation of the "fall" of Adam and Eve as well.

ok--let's pretend someone admits their sin, are absolved by jesus and sins again...it just goes on and on? so god's plan is to keep you sinning so jesus has something to do...I FIGURED IT OUT!!! job security! it's all in the name of job security...thanks for allowing me to come to that realization, I knew this site was good for something 🙂

@lerlo You nailed it. That is also why they have thought crimes (sins). I don't care enough to look up the passage but there is one passage in one of the gospels there Jesus says something to the effect that even thinking lusty thoughts about a woman is adultery as they have already committed it in their mind. So it is pretty much impossible to not sin by their rules. All you have to do is think about doing something (e.g. somebody makes you mad and you think about killing them, that is murder; think about doing something on the sabbath and BOOM, you also broke one of the 10).

According to Christian doctrine, all are sinners (with the exception of Christ), and only through the acceptance of Jesus Christ may one's sins be cleansed. The immorality of Christianity is laid bare in this doctrine. All a mass murderer must do is confess, even at their deathbed, and all may be forgiven.

Hey individuals forgive all kinds of sins that were committed on them and their families. I guess they didn't get the message that only Jesus could do that. I hope that's not the only thing you find immoral about Christianity.

@lerlo That of couse is the point of it, if only Jesus can forgive, then those who have a monopoly on him, the churches, can market him for any price they like.

@lerlo The largest Christian faith by far is the Catholic Church, wherein confession of sins is made to a priest.

@Fernapple The clergy have always known this, and thus allied themselves with the halls of power so that they too might enrich themselves upon the backs of the people. The altar and the throne have always been in league with one another, to the great detriment of their citizens.

Sin and christianity go hand and hand. Faithfools are constantly praying for forgiveness of their sin.
