Near enough to 4 weeks since I quit smoking, going well until I went out into garden and was accosted by the Evangelidiot that is.
A week or so back I dropped off at his door the cigarette filters, rolling papers and other paraphernalia that I'd no longer be needing.
Evangeidiot, about 20 minutes ago, asks me across the fence, " You've quit smoking then , did you finally give in and let Jesus into your heart and accept his promise of helping?"
To which I calmly replied, " No, I used Will-power, medication and determination BECAUSE, as you know already, Jesus promised to return in the life-times of his Disciples but never kept that promise did he, he has also been promising to return for the last 18,000+ years and still no sign, so I reckon his promises aren't worth shit."
I guess I've upset his day now, so sad, too bad, I'm glad.

Now you have another reason not to smoke. Every time you see him you can now say you did it without Jesus.

Maybe I might just crank up the Stereo, switch the speakers on my front veranda and play that song," I did it my Way" just for his benefit.

You were too kind. I would’ve said something like “If Jesus couldn’t be bothered to help 6 million Jews during the Holocaust then why would he bother to help me quit smoking?”

Well done. Smoking tobacco must be one of the craziest things we do. I started at the age of 12 and kicked the habit at around
25. Best thing I ever did.

Good for you!

Keep going man. I know it’s hard 😬

I've always told smoker acquaintances that if they quit, they doubled and nearly tripled their dating prospects... and prospects for friendships as well.

Glad to hear you stopped smoking, and also glad to hear about how you handled the evangelidiot.

"... did you finally give in and let Jesus into your heart and..." Ugh, that's so condescending! Cringe!

I quit over 10yrs ago cold turkey. If I waited for some "higher power" to help me quit, I would still be smoking.

By the way, congrats for quiting.

You are too good to him.

Congratulations on your effort!! I was once a 3 pack a day smoker and quit cold turkey. Same with drinking and Cocaine.

Congrats on your stopping smoking. My mother was a 3 pack a day smoker and never stopped. She died in 2010 from heart and lung issues. Happy for you!!

@Redheadedgammy Sorry to hear about your mom. When you set your mind on accomplishing something there’s nothing that can stop you.

Yeah, me too, but I finally went back to drinking that cocaine. Ah, no, just the occasional drinking.

Gosh I wish I could witness one of your smack downs!!😉. I might add that I’m so happy for your decision to quit smoking! You’re doing great!

Thank you, encouragement most appreciated also.

I stopped smoking cigarettes many times over the course of my career, usually an architect is what got me back to puffing instead of choking the shit out of them and spending time in a prison cell for doing the world a favour. tight, you're the one in control not some cancer stick.

Or coffin nail.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Good on ya, mate! For the quitting tobacco part. Ok, the savage take down was also noteworthy.

Excellent! I quit 6 years ago, just stopped but was never a heavy smoker. Never could stand the smell but NOW I really can't stand the smell! Even the laundry stuff heavy smokers use to try and cover up the smell makes me nauseous. If a smoker was near me and brought up Jesus . . . . . well, how bad can jail be? 🙂
I'm sure you can do this!!! You are in charge not your emotional triggers.

I don't know about the last 18,000 years but it is true that Jesus promised to return in the lifetimes of his disciples. No sign of him yet.

The JW's think he returned in the war clouds of WW1 but if you ask them they say he is not here in a physical presence. WTF?

He was in my toast this morning.

Jesus is not coming back...he is dead.

LOL,PLUS he was, according to the Fairy Tale, NAILED to a Cross, not a Boomerang.

Great that you stopped! Keep at it. 🙂

That man must hate you.

Well done beating the noxious weed. Remember that even one puff can start you again and you have to be vigilant for months against the temptation to restart. But it really is worth it. After various attempts I finally gave up in 1987. One of the best achievements of my life! So glad.

It's okay, just spent almost 3 hours counselling a young bloke (19 years old) with some really major problems who was almost a chain-smoker, never even the merest twinge of temptation to cadge a ciggie from him, in fact ,it went the other around, he asked me for extra counselling to help him quit.

I mainly smoked clove cigarettes. I had quit for over 5 years and a work mate lit up on. I felt that I could get away with smoking just one.....nope.

Finally quit for good. It has to be for good because I have so many chronic illnesses that it will definitely kill me if I started up again.

Have you tried smoking weed?

Not interested in smoking ANYTHING from now on, except making my own smoked bacon and fish when I can catch them.

@Triphid Hahahaha. I can respect that.

Please message me with any smoked fish advice you may have. I’ve smoked a lot of meat, but never fish, but I’m open to trying.

@CourtJester I usually smoke Murray Cod ( native Australian Freshwater fish), Yellow-belly Perch and Silver Bream.
It's not all that hard to do, built my own Smoker from an old Electric Hot-water system tank a few extra bits and pieces and I use either Willow, Wattle or Acacia chips as the material for the smoking of the meats.

@Triphid If weed is legal there you might try tincture - (Weed suspended in oil) it does the same thing as smoking it - but no smoke. (It's placed under the tongue).
It could be helpful while you're coming off nicotine.
Congrats on making it 4 weeks! That's an accomplishment.

@RavenCT Sorry but the DRUGS I'll ever take are those prescribed by a Doctor and that are 100% LEGAL.
Besides that, one ONLY has to see, etc, what smoking Dope, etc, has done to my Evangelidiot neighbour to know to steer well clear of those things.

@Triphid
I smoked chicken eggs about 10 years ago.

@CourtJester Just call me for dinner!!

@Triphid Hey not suggesting you do anything you don't want to! I just wanted you to know that smoking wasn't the only way to go these days.
(Also some Drs in the US prescribe weed as medicine. 😉 ).

Best of luck to you in your recovery from Nicotine.
Wait for your sense of smell to come back! Food is going to taste better. I remember that part of it well.

@RavenCT Senses of Smell and Taste have already return by at least 70-80%, ability to breathe easier has increase by at least 40-45%, energy levels are rising all the time, sleeping much better than even before.
The BIG PLUS is that now I CAN by myself the things I've been missing out for years, things a NICE, thick, juicy Steak to cook at home, some NEW Winter clothes, not from the local Op-shop (unless they're meant just as 'working clobber' for around the gardens, etc, sometime this week with luck, I fully intend to treat myself to 'slap-up' lunch at a local Pub or Club and may just 'Go the whole Hog' and really let myself dine like Royalty....LOL.

@Triphid That is truly great!
