Because, we need a massive military to protect our borders, the longest unguarded borders in the world.
The US is the only major nation with no medical care for all.

I think we both know that our military budget is beyond excessive....
@Buck Yep. And, we foolishly keep boosting it instead of building ourselves up as a self sustainable nation. Main reason is our biggest, and nearly only surviving, industry is arms, which we mostly purchase in house and don't sell as much overseas anymore.
@Beowulfsfriend Did you know that Costa Rica has no military and or military budget....
@Buck Yep. Nor does Iceland. There is a difference between the two, Iceland cops aren't trained as paramilitary units like Costa Rica.
I work for a financial institution as a customer service rep. I have spoken with many people who have applied for personal loans to pay for medical procedures. This is just f-cking nuts! To go into debt to have surgery.
