Wow. A friend had her gall bladder removed. She got an infection so bad it abscessed and the infection migrated to her sinuses. Two runs of HEAVY DUTY antibiotics. And now the infection has migrated to her toe. But her doctor (A FREAKING DOCTOR) doesn’t want to give her antibiotics to keep her from losing her toe, BECAUSE HE THINKS SHE IS “DRUG SEEKING” FOR ANTIBIOTICS.
WHAT THE HELL???

Time to report that Dr and find herself another one. Go to an ER if needed taking in all of her past treatments, procedures etc.

This is not going to resolve by itself.

Not to mention the risk of sepsis.

I understood the problem with patients "abusing" antibiotics was when they would go to Mexico and buy un-dosed antibiotics so they don't know how much they are getting. Then they may also end siding too early risking creating a superbug resistant to antibiotics. I've never hear of anyone getting high on antibiofics.

Yeah… I’m no doctor but seems a bit suspect. 🤔

It is possible we have another idiot doctor. Opiods are much different than antibiotics. The infection is what it is and people are not likely to "drug seek" for antibiotics. You can trade antibiotics with your friends. Opioids are different in that people have an urgency to take them if they take them regularly to begin with.

I'm skeptical, I think we may not be getting a full and accurate account here.

WTF? Whenever I see my doctor I always have my shopping list of drugs. I am always happy to discuss with him changes to that list as required, but I always have at the front of my mind what my conditions are and what needs to be done to manage them. Helicobacter pylori is a pain in the stomach and causes me anemia. The treatment with two antibiotics may have incidentally cleared up my microscopic colitis - I will discuss this with him when I next see him.

Antibiotics are over used, but not in this case.

I think that is some sort of universal rule amongst physicians. Dont write prescriptions for anything the patient specifically requests.
Because they probably want it to get high on!

Any doctor that treats me like that gets dumped and reported!

It might be time to hit the E.R.

I guess he thinks she ENJOYS yeast infections???

I think to get drugs nowadays, you have to be a 20 something, able bodied white male.

Maybe explain to the "doctor" what an antibiotic is?

He needs to be reported to the state medical board.

Agreed. This doctor is dangerous and needs correction.

Past time to find a better doctor !
