People question what would be needed for a reconciliation. How are we going to heal this country and get back to the way it used to be: where our political differences didn't define us and divide us so deeply. I try to explain that it's impossible, that we are so fundamentally different now that we don't even share a reality. How could you ever possibly reason with someone who watched the near [or beginning of if you ask some] dissolution of our democracy and describe it simply as a silly overcrowding of the Capitol by unarmed voters and grannies with flags? For all the people who wisely blocked the Conservative Atheists group without joining it and being blocked so you couldn't block it, you didn't see the post in the image. Ironically, that was written by someone who calls himself SeriousReason.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.1st. Whataboutism. A great deal of the arson and looting of summer 2020 was organized by the white supremacist militias, who took advantage of the BLM protests. There's lots of Christian Nationalists in Portland too.
2nd. Trump engaged in several coups simultaneously: 2a) Mass lawsuits to overturn the counts; 2b) Trying to overturn state elections by intimidating state officers and election officials; 2c) Intimidating and offering to bribe state legislators to overturn election results; 2d) assaulting the capitol to stop the elector certification (and what else? ).
3rd. In the assault on the Capitol, the FBI, Pentagon, and Congressmembers conspired to make it happen, and nothing has come of that.
4th. The GQP has not owned up to any of it.
5th. Despite pathetic deflections, the DOJ and FBI have refused to pursue ANY charges in spite of numerous criminal violations, starting with treason, bribery, extortion, obstruction of justice....
6th. The CIA has worked to tone down the objections to Trump and GQP behavior in the MSM.

Don't blame you there, sister, all conservatives make me want to vomit all the time.
The challenge is to get all Americans to vote a positive answer to a single questions. Once you have this baseline agreement.then you might possibly identify the actual grouse(s) of the populists. Then it is a question of tackling each grouse in turn but not proceeding with the next until the current grouse is settled. It is kind of like building a new constitution Brick by Brick . The order in which to tackle these grouses would be very important for preventing delays. The challenge mentioned in the first sentence of this post could be as simple as "Do you respect the American flag?"

And they don't. For fuck's sake they both used American flags to beat Capitol police officers and flew and wore confederate flags. There could not be more clear evidence that they don't. BUT, they will say we don't. For whatever reasons I can't imagine, maybe that we believe in crazy anti-second amendment shit like background checks to help reduce the likelihood our children get murdered while learning how to read. Either way, we do not share a reality, thus, a reconciliation is impossible.
@JeffMurray I did not say that respect of the AMERICAN flag HAD to be used as a starting point but just that it had to be simple . Perhaps a better example would be . "Do you want to expel any existing American Citizens from belonging to this country or living here ever again? " Then that would empower removal of the people who are just messing us about and might get the remaining citizens to decide a better oath of allegiance e.g. "I respect Logic and reason etc".
@Mcflewster As much as I would love for all Trump voters to disappear forever in any way possible, even I wouldn't sign on for expelling American citizens. That's one of the hallmarks of American citizenship, it cannot be taken away. To undermine something so fundamental to the fabric of our democracy would seem to undo our democracy all on its own.

@JeffMurray That's messed up. When you're blocked, that should remove you from the group. Did you try to go to "my groups"? You might be able to uncheck the group and be given the option to leave the group.
