So, for fun, I went to this site ... they don't seem very secure in their "beliefs"

Hello, my name is Tom. I am glad you are visiting us today. How can I help you?
Norman
If everything must have a prior cause, what caused the first cause and why couldn't that have caused everything else?
Tom
are you taking about the big bang
Norman
Not necessarily. We don't know if there was anything before the big bang. But given the first law of thermodynamics, the energy of the universe has never been created nor destroyed, so there was probably something prior to that.
Tom
God was and always be.
Norman
What god? There is no evidence of any God. How do you know that Thor isn't the real God? I mean you can't just make something up and say "It dunnit".
Tom
I see, so then you came in here today to accomplish what?
Norman
I want to see upon what evidence you base this claim that "God exists".
Tom
okay, you need another volunteer,
Tom
bye
Norman
So far, I see only a claim.

I read the diatribe on the link....not so much Tom the Xtian.
Same ol' tiresome semantics games. I dozed off halfway through the site's smoke and mirrors non-answers.

It is a good example of the futility of arguing about the existance of gawd. I don't waste the brain cells on magical thinkers who won't hear what I say to them anyway.

If a religionist tries that "atheist disbelief IS faith" shit on me, though, I will point out they must concretely define what they mean by "God." After all, powerful forces that run the cosmos is a far cry from Judeo-Christian anthropomorphic descriptions of Sky Daddy. God might as well be physics.
Xtians who want to debate atheists are disingenuous, because their beliefs are very specific, spelled out in their holy book and church sermons. But to atheists they will insist on keeping the discussion painfully vague, so as to try to make it seem it is the atheists who are overreaching and militant.

Better to stick to pointing out all the ways their Xtian religion contradicts itself, gets its historical and science facts wrong, and thereby invalidates itself from any legitimate claim to represent said Gawd.
I am an atheist, and MY "God" is physics. "He" is a very impersonal god, which works for me, because I am terrible about remembering to pray to imaginary anthropomorphized characters.

Did you expect them to follow standard rules of logic and reason? 🤣🤣🤣

Ahhh no! I expected a full display of fallacious thinking. I didn't even get that.

@Normanbites When I poked that link I got large amounts of fallacious thinking. I might poke it again in a day or two - I enjoy watching them make idiots of themselves.

Ah, the old Kalam argument

Aww, poor fellow. It's a shame when people like that won't argue.
Have you seen the experiments into time?

So far as I know, we are all time traveling into the future at a mostly fixed pace.

@Normanbites Time may have been around prior to anything else.... or not!
If time was present prior to what we currently understand as existence, then does that suggest there have been other 'creations'?
I don't know, but it's good to think about it and have exchanges of thoughts with others without finding oneself tied to a stake and burnt just because some 'god' is offended.

Typical. The minute you ask a question they can not answer they leave. lol

Oh naughty, naughty you, you have sent poor little God-bothering Tom with a huge anxiety problem. you've disagreed and debated with him regarding his Invisible, Imaginary, never, ever existed Sky Friend and Sky Daddy....LOL
You DESERVE extra points for doing such great job, Congratulations and Well Done.

I've seen that. It's a font control issue. Best way to deal with it is to cut and paste into a text editor you like. I should have done this before posting. Sorry about that.

The security of belief is more than likely all in the comradery that they experience.

Tom sounds like one of those greeters that you meet at the door of a cult, all smiles and no stuffing.

Paper tiger indeed!! Nothing but fluff. But on that basis it's probably one of the more "honest" discussions I've had with his ilk.

@Normanbites Short and sweet. He identified you as "one of those" and ran for the hills. lol

@Normanbites I find anyone who can be called "ilk" is generally going to be dispointing to attempt any constructive dialogue with. 😏

@MikeInBatonRouge Meh!! Some "ilks" are rare and I would love to have a conversation with them ... I.e. Richard Feynman, Linus Torvalds, Bertrand Russell ... just to name a few.

@Normanbites I stand corrected. Ilk simply means sort or type, but in common usage context, it has come to more generally be used when referring to types the speaker does not much care for. That was my meaning.
You, however, are technically correct. I just cringe at that word being applied to persons I respect. It sounds to me like an insult.

@MikeInBatonRouge It can be an insult, depending on the "ilk". 😀
