Origins of Religions and Spirituality
Religion: Religions are most often based upon the lives, teachings, and beliefs of a historical or archetypal figure (e.g., Christ, Buddha, Moses, Krishna, Muhammad). The details of their lives as holy or highly evolved beings have been carried to us across the mists of time through oral tradition and written scriptures. These figures are the subject of worship and devotion and form the foundation of religious practices and rituals in a community.

Spirituality: By contrast, spirituality is more often based upon the practical application of the founder’s teachings. Spiritual aspirants heed the advice of Japanese poet Matsuo Basho, “Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought.”

I don't believe in religion 😂

My favorite use of the word spirit…

“Spirit”

Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, 2023.

Web. 9 February 2023

10a: DISTILLATE sense 1: such as
(1): the liquid containing ethanol and water that is distilled from an alcoholic liquid or mash —often used in plural

The terms spiritual and related spirituality are derived from the belief in a body/spirit human. Ruah Hebrew, pneuma in the Greek.

Spirituality came from religion. Think, Maoists and their practical application of the teachings of master Zedong.

I could be going nuts but I think this was posted once today by someone else. Religion is a belief system of some sort usually based on a reward after death situation but not always so. Spirituality can mean almost anything the person wants it to mean.

So, what are your thoughts on the above cut and pasted article?

@Jenny101 might be intentionally keeping it a conversation about the subject rather than about her personal views. I like that and think making these distinctions of definition, especially concerning ideology, is important.
