This comment from the shooting in Texas infuriates me. 🤬
“Representative Keith Self, a Republican who represents Allen, Texas, said on CNN that critics who are calling for more than “thoughts and prayers” after Saturday’s shooting “don’t believe in almighty God, who is absolutely in control of our lives.” Instead, he said, the country’s lack of “mental health institutions” is to blame.”

Ukraine is currently at war and thousands of innocent people are dying, who simply lived in their own country and did their usual things. Russia has declared war on Ukraine and is killing civilians. To read true information or help Ukraine go to the site [comebackalive.in.ua]
This fund provides assistance to the Ukrainian military and brings Ukraine's victory over Russia closer.

The fact that his all-knowing, all-powerful deity permits people to kill one another every day just serves to highlight his declining mental state.

Belief in gods has nothing to do with it.

1

What loving god would preordain this kind of violence on to any innocent people? Only a god full of hate and blood lust would do such a thing.

Send those worthless whispers to a child with his jaw and tongue shot off, slowly bleeding out trying to call out for his Mama.

4

His almighty god is giving options to solve this crisis, he just needs to accept them into his heart. (Common sense gun laws, more funding for mental health programs, etc.) His god is showing him clear signs toward solutions, but he has shut them out of his mind and consciousness.

7

If the country is lacking in mental health institution why is he not advocating for more funding then?

Please don't ask awkward and relevant questions of anybody who is catastrophically mentally defective.

Because tax cuts to the wealthy and big business and cuts to the social safety net to pay for those tax cuts are far more important than human lives.

Same old superstitious brain rot from another religious nut-job.

Proof that more mental health services (and science education) are needed. 😂

The mentally ill are rampant in the streets of America, just look at any city with a population of 50k or more. So on that point of his comment I agree completely. We need to get help for all people suffering from mental health issues, the ones on the streets and the ones in the suburbs.

That is a republican. He's not going to fund anything tax money gifted to the wealthy.

Honestly, I can't help but think you get what you voted for. You want anyone to be able to own assault weapons in Texas, well here you go. Enjoy your mass shootings. This will continue until people demand a stop to it. Evidently not enough people are dead yet. Or maybe the shooters are killing only liberals. I wonder how the people who were shot voted? If they even voted. That's my thinking.

The likelihood that those shot were buying a gift for Mother's Day next weekend.

I was using the treadmill in an exercise room where I live, while the TV was reporting on this shooting. An older man came in and I pointed out the story on the TV and his response was " It probably is related to the border just being opened with Mexico". I told him that had nothing to do with the mass shooting and that the shooter was undoubtedly, a white male, like they almost always are with mass shootings. He looked confused and said nothing back, as I told him the real problem is the availability of automatic weapons to private individuals. He looked like a dim-witted child, but he is typical of my neighbors where I live in my red state suburb, where they all go to conservative churches and vote Repub. Just a bunch of rural hicks transplanted to a small suburb..

The right wing reactionaries are springing on that since the one in TX between neighbors.
And trans people are all killers in waiting since the school shooting in KY.
But mass murderers are almost always socially loner, frustrated white men.

It just shows his mental health is failing because his all knowing and powerful god is letting people kill others daily

So he is now open for fully funding comprehensive mental health care.

Come join me at the bridge to nowhere as we watch the river Styx ice over.

Somebody should tell him his god absolutely has no control over anything controlling our lives. But then he's a fucking moron republican who does nothing to improve the lives of his constituents because he believes in a sky fairy!!!!

Well back in the 1980's Ronald Reagn, a republican, closed almost all of the mental health institutions by changing the definition(s) for mental illness and the rules for institutionalization. He literally put then all out onto the streets, causing a huge explosion in the homeless population in the U.S.

While I do agree that the U.S. needs better mental health services, I also think that we need to better regulate gun sales, not make it easier for the mentally ill to buy guns, like Donald Trump did.

Even though at the time the 2nd amendment was written, the most advanced firearm was a single shot flint lock rifle that took about 20 seconds to reload, the founders put the words "well regulated" in the second amendment. If they had today's modern weaponry, you know that if they were concerned about the damage that could be done by a single shot flint lock, the amendment would have been worded much differently. The amendment was meant to cover our national defense because at the time of the country's founding, the U.S. was to have no standing military forces, but was to be defended only by state militias. However, after the Civil War, the U.S. put a standing military in place, which made the original purpose of the 2nd amendment out of date. The amendment needs to be updated to reflect modern weaponry and also to insure general; public safety.

And he did that because he watched "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and thought it was reality.

He was never very bright.

And then dementia went to town.

@BufftonBeotch Reagan was the perfect political puppet. He never knew or realized the ideas he espoused were being fed to him and not actually his own ideas.

I still wonder who was really running things in his second term when the dementia first started. At the point he was relegated mostly to just reading the teleprompter and usually not allowed to answer press questions.

While i hated, and still hate Ronnie Boy, those institutions were closed by multiple lawsuits claiming 'false imprisonment' and the like.

@AnneWimsey He was as good for mental health as he was for air traffic safety and unions.

The average person has never seen black powder weapons. My uncle had several and taught me on his private range. Measuring the powder, tamping, lead balls, cleaning the muzzle frequently as it gunks up, it's a lot of work.

@snytiger6 Actually, Reagan's dementia began during his first term.

@TomMcGiverin It may have begun after he got shot. I've noticed a lot of older people who undergo surgical procedures start to develop symptoms of dementia.

@snytiger6 True. They often suffer permanent effects from being under general anesthesia...

@snytiger6 My guess is that things were being run by his wife, Nancy, along with his chief of staff and Bush, Sr... Also, notice how Biden has been protected the same way Reagan was, from his dementia being exposed, once he got elected. Biden never does press conferences where he answers ?s not given in advance. He too just reads from the teleprompter..

@TomMcGiverin Try going to Youtube and searching for "Biden takes questions". He does take questions at news conferences.

I wonder just how many resources Keith has voted to allocate to mental health? There is nothing wrong with thoughts and prayers if that is all you can offer. But God helps those who not only help themselves but those who help others too. Which coincidentally is his job description.

Keith Self's mother should have swallowed.

@anglophone And the fact he is from Texass as well, which oughta be called ‘Evangelical Haven’ IMO.

The fact that his all-knowing, all-powerful deity permits people to kill one another every day just serves to highlight his declining mental state.
