Which is it, brother? If it's the second one, better not tell me. I just shaved my head, so I've got no hair to tear out; and I can't very well bite my nails, since I recently trimmed them.

The only glimmer of hope I see is that late deciders, according to some polls, are breaking for Harris. Of course, the late deciders, or fence sitters, as I like to call them, were always going to decide this race. So them breaking for Harris is what we want. Also, among early voters, women voters are more numerous than men by a margin if 60 to 38. If that trend continues through election day, then, given the gender gap, with women breaking for Harris over Roe and other issues such as Trump's misogyny and generally bad character, Trump's goose may be cooked. Incidentally, it was a groundskeeper at a local golf course, not Haitian immigrants, who shot the geese in Springfield, Ohio. Here's to hoping that some fence sitters internalize that nugget of information too.

Decades ago, my husband had a friend who was an almost a fanatical Xtian. We went to church (or I did) but were not fanatics. The friend kept saying that he was READY to meet JESUS at any time! However, he came to our house one night very shaken--he explained that in the rain/fog, he had nearly driven his car over the bluff into the ocean.

I asked him why he just did not let the car go over the bluff as he was READY to meet Jesus at any time. He never used that phrase again!

In addition, what about people who would rather be dead than alive? My sister suffered from cancer for many years and as a god believer, often wondered why god "allowed" her to live. What did he gain by "allowing" her to suffer?

It boggles my mind that we (some) humans continue to deny our puniness despite the evolving science showing how vast the system surrounding us is. Yet, we even deny the scope of the universe and hang on to the absurd idea our heaven and hell will still exist long after the universe is gone (if that ever happens). Recent advances in astronomy with the JWST expand what we once thought was the vastness of the universe making our puniness even more evident.

@pedigojr most humans have an innate desire to be important. If god loves them, then they must be important.

My sister was a lifelong Southern Baptist but she confessed to me before she died that she no longer believed that "anything" lasts "forever." She also wondered why anyone would want to live forever. She still believed in a deity, but she said that no one truly understands its nature.
