Another horrible shooting. At least most people have slacked off on the tone deaf, "thoughts and prayers." As an American I am horrified at the inaction in the face of this repeated violence. The NRA is now being partially funded by Russia and objects to any reasonable gun regulations. Gun regulations are not the only thing we need to do, but we've got to start somewhere.

We live in a gun culture. We have always been a gun culture. Unfortunately we also live in a culture where a gun is the easiest way for a mentally ill er to gain revenge against those that they perceive, have done them wrong. You tell me. Is it easier to address mental illness or to relieve EVERY single person of their firearm? Our society generally ignores the mentally ill. We used to warehouse them, but Uncle Ronnie decided they were better off on their own. Trying to ban guns in America IS IMPOSSIBLE. Normal people don't, as a rule, murder people to resolve their inner conflicts. Identify those who need help, and help them before they act out in a manner that demeans every n one of us. Somewhere along the line, we failed them. But all in all they're still pieces of in my book.

For the most part, I agree with you. It's not just a mental health problem. Not all mentally ill people are violent and not all violent people are mentally ill. We need to identify and treat the propensity for violence. But, there are people who for whatever reason, should not be allowed any access to guns. It's going to take a lot of regulation just to make sure that guns do not end up in hands that should not have them.

It's heart breaking to see this on the news. I'm Canadian, but it could happen here as well. Hopefully changes are made soon and these families find a way to get thru this. What a crazy messed up world this has become. Not sure what the answer is but changes must be made.

2

we look at you with abject horror. the free world you are called.? get your shit together . get off the couch and take these gun nuts on, head on

Too many police are evil. And fur shur, too many in positions of power and control. Nothing is going to change until they are made subject to the rule of law.

What strong evidence do you have that would suggest the NRA is even being partly funded by Russia? I call bull on that one man. "Gun control" measures already in place have failed miserably. This kid allegedly stole the weapons from his father who owned them legally, so much for extended background checks or raising the minimum age to purchase when someone can just manuever around those details and just steal whatever weapon they want. Banning AR styled weapons won't do jack either because guess what? Criminals (who don't care about our laws) will just steal weapons they want, and some years back I knew of two dudes who used to steal weapons off of a local military base. We have a people problem, not guns or any other inanimate object, stop droning on about the same old tired gun control nonsense.

Haha, I was automatically censored on here, so much for free speech.

@SpikeTalon that just means you're hitting where it hurts... the truth!

Apathy is setting in for me! Too many of these mass shooting occur, and the only action I see is thought and prayers warmed up by candles. No action taken by our politician inebriated by the bribe of the NRA. I do not think this country is civilized. The love of a gun is more potent than the love of our children. If I had school age children I would expatriate to a more civil nation
Abolish the second amendment now!!!

I don't think it is necessary to abolish the 2nd Amendment, but we do need stronger controls.

I agree with you .whenever I hear of mass shootings I just assume it's someone else's Second Amendment right to annihilate kids. It's strange that as a country we could live with massive quantities of dead kids shot in schools without a problem. However, everybody's jockstrap gets in a massive wad if you talk about stricter gun laws. Thank goodness I don't breed people disgust me.

please elaborate on where that more civil nation is by naming it.

It's not guns that are the problem it's people! The larger a society grows the more nutcases you will have. If guns kill people then my arsenal must be broken I have quite a few and not one has killed a human. There is nothing that can be done to background check someones head or to know their intentions. Take away guns they will use trucks, bombs, poisons, you name it if someone want to kill people they will find a way to do it. Also taking away and banning guns will do nothing but force us into another civil war. I think people who want to ban guns or restrict us to only bolt action and shotgun need to finely read the declaration of Independence and the Constitution. There is a fine line being walked here with this issue, I'm not a far right extremist in any way but I will not give up any of my weapons and I will die if necessary fighting to defend those pieces of paper that made this country the greatest land on this planet.

For someone who claims not to be a far-right extremist - you talk just like them. (A) This is not the greatest country on the planet - we're only #1 in three things and they're not good things. And please save the "so why do so many people want to come here" bit. 🍺 It's not the second amendment that made this country - it was the people and you're right the people have changed. Having your own personal arsenal demonstrates how people have become warped and in return have warped the original intent of the second amendment.

You're wrong that background checks can't be made to work. If healthcare professionals, guidance counselors, probation officers and so on could report suicidal thoughts, a preoccupation with mass shootings, a history of domestic violence and the like - it would at least force the govt. to conduct a very thorough investigation before allowing that person to purchase a gun. And if nothing else, the longer it takes it may result in that person having second thoughts about what they're thinking of doing.

We can also apply the same logic to people who buy the ingredients to make a poison powerful enough to kills 100's or the materials to make a bomb that could kill 100's.

Finally, the Constitution and Declaration of Independence (the second has nothing to do with gun rights) were written well over 200+ years ago - people were different then and the issues they faced were just as different. If we're ever to become the advanced society that we have the potential to become - those documents need to change and keep up to date with the changing times and the dysfunctional evolution of its citizens. But that's never going to happen as long as there are backwood country fk's like yourself who say "I will die if necessary fighting to defend those pieces of paper that made this country the greatest land on this planet" - it demonstrates that you don't have a clue what you're talking about (dangerous) and it proves that your kind has to die off before this country can ever reach its full potential.

Well said! You sound just like a lot of the people in the conservative atheist and constitutional conservative groups.

Hmmmmm, not one of your guns has killed a human, so why do you need them for "protection"?

@slbushway america is the greatest country

@nvrnuff just in case some human breaks into my home then they will kill humans, or if anyone near me want to commit a mass shooting I will kill them as well would not think twice and I will go to sleep just fine.

@Bloodmoon There's no evidence to support that - but there's a ton of evidence that proves the reverse is true - is reading outside of your comfort zone?

@Trajan61 well what did the founding fathers think of AR-15s in other military style weapons...... oh wait they only had muskets!

@Bloodmoon I could be standing at the foot of your bed before you ever know I'm there.

@SLBushway if you don't think America is a great country why do you live here?

It's not funny but watching and listening to them speak you can see the conscious effort not to say "Thoughts and Prayers".

Do we know already what prompted this kid to kill?

I suspect he was bullied in school and finally lashed out. He allegedly used a handgun and a shotgun, yet the liberal progressives are crying to ban AR style rifles. The liberal left never passes on a chance to further their agenda when a tragedy occurs.

@SpikeTalon What the liberal say / do / don't miss.... is irrelevant to me.

I believe you are right about this kid being bullied and while I do not condone what he did, and I want him in jail forever, I am not surprised by his actions.

People think they will solve the problem by removing the guns when the real problem is a very different one...A victim of bullying will -eventually- react...and he/she will react big.

@DUCHESSA You are very right about that, and I'm not surprised by his actions either.

@SpikeTalon you're goddamn right! That's the logical thing to do. Mass shootings are not something that we should be okay with. It doesn't bother gun nuts but a load of dead kids in school it's something that's upsetting to us

@Kojaksmom Yeah, actually it does bother us, and what bothers us even more is the fact the liberal left continues to insist that our public schools remain gun free zones, and look at what happened? Funny thing is you don't hear about shootings like this occuring at shooting ranges or gun conventions, gee whiz I wonder why? The gun control measures already in place keep getting our children killed.

@Kojaksmom Again, while I don't condone his actions I would appreciate if people did a lil bit of thinking....since this kid also had home-made bombs set inside the school....As I said many times, no the guns but the people are the guilty ones....

Many things can be used as weapons....and bombs kills more and faster than revolvers.

Every American wants Gun Control except 45 and his Conspirators at the helm of the GOP who are Millionaires greased forever by the NRA and Medical Insurance Frauds Association. Every American what Universal Health Care both of which are not only economically feasible but are proven by the self sustainment of both Social Security and Medicare. Both are paid for by every citizen, but regulated by Congress who doesn't contribute one dime but just robs it without any compunction and now wants to delete it from the very grasp of those who paid into it.
Over half of our tax dollars are for the Military Industrial complex and the manufacturing of WMD's for the Middle East. I don't just focus on the news but you have to stand back and take a long hard deep look into this and broaden the picture, the players and manipulators. More than half of Americans don't vote which is a major problem that I hope has come into perspective being this Congressional Congress of Thugs and Frauds has flaunted its true colors.

The only answer to the school shootings that will work is to arm qualified teachers. Only then will we get them under control.

WRONG

Right. The answer is always more guns.

@NFAguy53 Why are you assuming I am on a particular "side"???
That's one of the biggest mistakes you could make. I said absolutely nothing about 'gun free zones'. I have never said anything about 'gun free zones'. You are making an extremely false assumption. This is one of the reasons it's so difficult to have a reasoned, rational discussion. It is quite possible to support the 2nd Amendment and not the NRA. Please don't assume you know where I stand on anything, unless I tell you where I stand.

@KKGator Its very obvious where you stand and it’s damn sure not for the second amendment!!

@KKGator That's what they do, it's written in their manifesto.

@nvrnuff You sir are the one whose wrong!

@Trajan61 You are mistaken. But hey, go ahead and continue to be wrong.

@Trajan61 Highly unlikely

7

We are a sick society when it comes to gun issues.

Your the one who is sick. @Lancer, @SpikeTalon, @NFAguy53

@Trajan61
Society isn't sick. sick implies it's condition has degraded from the normal. Also it's not just gun issues, it's the factors that lead up to gun issues which haven't been addressed for decades.

2

Have you links to the Russian connection? This is the first I've heard of it. It sounds like something Fox News would invent to deflect attention from the douchebags the NRA already are.

The NRA doesn't need funding, it makes quite a bit of money already.

[rollingstone.com]

@schwinnrider

No offence, but The Rolling Stone magazine is not known for its foreign, global investigative journalism.

It's a music magazine for pretentious posers.

[npr.org]

This is America, there is never anyone or any organization that could ever get enough money.

@schwinnrider I read this article. Interesting.

This case involved a shotgun and pipe bombs as well as an evil semiautomatic rifle. I believe pipe bombs are already illegal. Are we really going to outlaw shotguns? Not likely IMO.

I am watching the news updates on this situation, and I expect to learn that the shooter is on psychotropic medication like nearly every other similar perpetrator. Yes, we’ve got to start somewhere, and that’s a good place to start.

These are just kids committing these heinous acts. Throw them in jail for life ,and throw their parents in jail for life. It'll be interesting to find out how this little f*** got his weapon.

Psychotropic medication should be replaced by marijuana.

@TheInterlooper not really, the one guy's father gave him his gun back after law enforcement took it away.

@TheInterlooper no it's really not

@TheInterlooper I believe bad parenting is at the root of this problem. Parents should be the one that take part of the blame when something like a school shooting happens. And it should be extreme extreme punishment. Maybe then parents will take some concern about what the f*** their kid is even doing. Perhaps that will force more people to think twice about having children in the first place

6

Yes. We need to start now. Start by getting rid of congress in the pocket of the NRA

2

first off, gun regulation is already in place, if the states followed the law on it, it would pry work, but the states don't follow the federal law on reporting. now as for the NRA, i am a 2A support, 110 percent, i am a conceal carry myself, but i do not support over half of what the NRA does. NRA is a money grubbing only care about how they can make more money from people. I am not fan of the NRA never will be. Thats why i am not a member. As for russia's giving them money, i really doubt that, they want american's to loose there gun rights, makes it easier to invade us. right now everyone and there grandmother owns a gun and willing to fight. just my personal thoughts.

No I think Russia enjoys watching our society being ripped into pieces. We may not be able to get rid of all guns that would mean changing the Constitution. However, we can tighten our laws and ban assault style weapons that kill massive numbers of people and extremely short periods of time.

what do you consider assault riffle ? if you mean something like AR -15 well not really, its still a hunting riffle, used them self to go hunting. for like deer and elk. i can fire my 9mm just as fast as an ar-15 can fire. just saying, and i have done it myself at the range. our laws are pretty strict as it is... but most states or alteast half will not report to the federal data base on people. doing so would change alot too. just saying.

@notconvinced an AR-15 has been the weapon of choice of all mass Shooters this far.

@cobra3282000 how many rounds you need and how close do you have to get to kill an elk with that 7.62 comp civilian 308 round?

@Kojaksmom its cheap and takes a clip is why, still doesn't make it an assault riffle.

If Russia were to invade us, all the hand held weapons in the world aren't going to make one bit of difference.

@TheInterlooper Idiot, you think they'll actually put boots on the ground, you're beyond ignorant.

@TheInterlooper, @cobra3282000 If that's what you are using, you're no hunter.

7

This gun insanity must end.

I've "liked" your statement as a way of sharing your anger and frustration with these heinous crimes.
I feel that the insanity involved must be somehow identified and treated. But not the gun.

Just as this religious insanity must end. Care to make a prediction of when it will happen?

5

I will never understand the gun nuts philosophy that Citizens need to protect themselves from the government. Our military is so well funded if they really wanted to take over no amount of citizens weaponry would stop them. It's gotten to a point where the Second Amendment is essentially about gun nuts rights to kill innocent people.

The reason why Japan never even attempted to land on our shores, and they could have, was the fact that their leaders were afraid they would be an American citizen hiding behind every rock, hill, and crevasse waiting for them. It's not just for government, plus we all have the right to defend our own lives by any means necessary the criminals will have them regardless of any law.

@NotConvinced perhaps you're correct but to do you really need an assault weapon to do it? Do you have to stockpile in case some bad person might break in your home? No one is suggesting that we will end gun violence, it won't happen .people are stupid animals that cannot be self-governed and will always make bad choices and do the wrong thing.

@Bloodmoon Your one of the few who is making any sense. Why don’t you join our conservative atheist or constitutional conservative group. Or join both of them. There are a lot of like minded conservative people on those 2 groups. Unfortunately most of the people on the main forum seem to be Trump bashing, Obama loving, gun grabbing left wing liberals.

@Bloodmoon That was in the 40's man. C'mon, if someone were going to invade do you really think it would be with troops on the ground? Get real.

@Bloodmoon, @NotConvinced When's the last time you shot a citizen?

@NotConvinced and it's also called a bunch of dead kids

@Bloodmoon I personally think that even increasing the age for buying assault weapons to 21 would help get them out of schools. Teenagers are not fully developed they're violent pack animals .They did the same thing with alcohol and it actually did work. The overwhelming majority of Americans want to see some form of gun control. No one is talking about ending the Second Amendment.

@NotConvinced as I've said before people are animals were never going to stop killing each other. Just because the Second Amendment exists doesn't mean that it can't be amended. The Supreme Court ruled on abortion. However that does not mean the procedure is not heavily regulated.

@Kojaksmom increase the age to 21 to join the military as well them they put the same M4 (ar-15) that you can purchase at any gun store.

@Kojaksmom, @nvrnuff this world is getting crazy and may possibly be on the brink of a 3rd world war. If Iran gets a nuke and hit Israel guess what WW3 is going to happen so it's not far fetched to believe it could happen history shows every great nation eventually will crumble if its in my lifetime I'm prepared and my friends family and those aroumd me who can't defend themselves will at least have a chance or the means to continue living and being Americans.

@NotConvinced it's the truth. Whenever the topic of gun control comes up conservatives go ape shitt

@NotConvinced, @Bloodmoon you're supposed to kill people in the military you're not supposed to kill people in f** high school. If teenagers become irrationally obsessed with military style weapons, assume they're killing machines and throw them in the military.

@NotConvinced emotion is when you refuse to realize that every other country has some form of gun control and they don't have mass shootings anywhere near the numbers we do. The only thing that conservatives do care about is their guns. It's not a emotion ,it's been proven to me over and over and over again
