Why?

Any of the Northern European countries that have a higher standard of living than the U.S.A. now has (it was not like that when I was a kid). "Socialism does not work."...yeah, right.

Greenland or Denmark or Sweden.

I would love to live in england scotland or wales but with brexit and Theresa May it's just becoming america with tea

Canada for me. I was there years ago and loved it.

Canada would be my first choice. Then England, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden. I am half German and mom's family came from Germany and Switzerland. I've lived in Germany. My dad's side of the family is English.

Canada. Great outdoors. Great climate on the west coast. Great people. Good exchange rate. Great food and beer.

It would probably be one of the progressive, socialist Nordic countries.

There are several. The first two on my list are because of proximity and advantages I have in them:

  1. Mexico
  2. Canada
  3. England
  4. Germany
  5. France
  6. Australia

Weirdly, Ireland, which is mostly Catholic. Its sheer beauty is what draws me.

Thinking like a refugee - it has to be a place that would accept me as a permanent resident

  • MOST countries want young, educated people w/ 30 yr of future earnings -- few seem to be willing to accept older, retired people.

English speaking is preferred -- but Spanish as a backup.

  • Canada, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Bermuda would come first
  • Spain, Portugal (yeah, I know, not Spanish speaking... but), France
  • the nordic countries would be socially ideal - but just too cold !!

I haven't found the ideal yet -- but let's keep on looking!

I've lived in Australia and England. It would take a crap tonne of money to make even think of moving to the States. New Zealand would be top of my list. Reasonable social services, gob-smackingly beautiful, Kiwis are good people, I can settle indefinitely on my Australian passport and if the world goes to hell in a handbasket, you're a long way from trouble.

My wife who is Japanese and I who am part Costa Rican and part Cuban born in the USA are planning to move to Japan at some point. Mostly atheist nation, super polite people, state of the art everything, little to no crime, super clean, universal healthcare, etc.
