If you could change your legal name easily and for free, would you? If so, to what?

Does your name suit you, do you like it? Would you change it if it were easy?

Not sure myself. I would feel weird going by another name. I just wish my name were shorter. Like Lucy. Last name too. Lucy Liu is already taken so Lucy Lee? Hehe. How easy to sign.

I changed my last name when I became a U.S. citizen, I just translated my last name to English. Same name just in English. I was eighteen.

Samuel L. Jackson

The "L" stands for mother fucker.

Where I grew up mother is only half a word

Lmao

I actually did legally change my name, but it was neither free nor easy. I did it because I'm transgender and also because I was named after my father. I'd rather not be is all I'll say about that.

If I were to go on a murderous rampage I'd change it to Bad Karma so the headline would read "<insert name of violent criminal or anyone associated with the Orange in chief> Killed by Bad Karma".

My given name is Richard, which doesn't feel like it suits me (too formal sounding), but I always go by Rick anyway — which I like pretty well. My last name is 10 letters long, but I don't really mind that. I've never gone by initials, but I could do my first and middle initials, RJ. I'd be okay with that.

@resserts monogramming was big when I grew up but I couldn't have it. First and last BS. Worse was using first and middle BJ. No kidding. Nicknames have been Bobbie and Beej. They do me well

I was going to change my name, officially, to Johnny Thorazine back in the 90's....but everybody that mattered already knew me by that name, so why pay to have doctors and lawyers call me Johnny Thorazine...haha

I would absolutely change my name because I am a junior. My name is the same as my father's and I have no respect for him so I would much rather have my own name but its complicated to change that. So far, since I was 17, I've just used my name without putting the junior on the end and that has worked just fine so I'm ok with it for now.

No, I don't think I'd want to change it. I've lived with it long enough that I've finally learned it and don't have to think about how to spell it.

L 😀 L

I love my last name. I want it to be my first name. It's Taylor.

Lol. No, I'd use another last name. It will never happen though.

3

Nah, my name is fine...it's worked pretty well for me for the last 45 years. In fact, when I got married, I just kept my same name, it was just easier.

Lucy Fehr

I was named for the Franke Valley song and for some reason hated my name. Wanted Michelle for some reason. When I was a teen, people called me sher which also irritated me because Cher was a big thing at the time.

I'm completely happy with my name now. I was barely 17 when my daughter was born and named her Misty which I regret although at 37 she says she is still fine with it. I had my next one nearly 10 years later so he got an adult sounding name of Mitchell and goes by Mitch.

I use Lucy Fehr at work. Or Lucyfer

i introduced a first name, easily pronounced not only by germans, but english & asian tongues as well, to everyone i knew & met nearly 30 years ago. for money reasons only i never officialised it. i'd also much rather have my maternal grandparents' family name than my father's. Nada Renovanz.

Charlene Edette..nuff said..

"Stein" = Stone. I'd go with "Stone."

3

I would just drop my surname and use my abbreviated christian name, 3 letters.
That is for the few people that really know me, I go by a number of names in different places.

What’s better than Nothingness Prevails?

3

Yes, I would remove my foreign English Name--which I consider to be a scar of religion and colonialism.

3

I've had many nicknames and wouldn't mind changing my name. Speaking of short names, how about Lu Li?

I was going to say nothing beats Lu Li in brevity, but obviously your Lu C did the magic 😛

I had a friend who changed his name to Ricky Raccoon. All was well till he got food poisoning. After suffering in his bedsit for 2 weeks he made it to the ER unit of the hospital. Unfortunately his DOB did not help. Imagine the scene at the reception. " Name? " "Ricky Raccoon " . " Date of birth? " " 1st of April 1962 ".......

Mine is ok, could have been worse.

Nope, I'm good.

I would just drop my first name and use my middle name. I've been Vic for as long as I can remember. I was given my dad's first name, but when I was a newborn and mom and dad were showing me off to some of my dad's friends, Mom said "It's time to change Fred's diaper" Dad's friends looked at him and laughed. I've been called Vic ever since.

No,
I think I mentioned this in another comment but in Iran a woman keeps her name when married (but the children get the husbands name). When my late partner moved to this country and got her citizenship her then husband talked her into changing her name to his because it made legal things easier and she did. When we got married she said she wanted her maiden name back. I told her "what makes you think you can have my name? I don't just give it to anyone (we loved to tease). She said thank you and did.

Little did I know the result of that. She was a talker and anything verbally she did. The writing was done by me. Consequently, a lot of legal things (primary name on the car title, house etc. was in her name). The other day a woman from the county assessors office came by for their 6 year assessment and asked for Mr. Baharloo - her name. That happens a lot. So now I have 2 names.
