Does it make it better that it happened in the past and we don't talk about it now? or do we need to talk about what happened in 1957? Most of the people in that picture are in their 70s or early 80s

I knew the photo was mid-50's.

Look at the two women displayed most prominently in the photo (the two women on the right).

Those are not school girls, they are likely the mothers of high school girls, and I would put their age in the 35 to 45 year old range.

My assumption was the photo was taken around 1955.

That would make the year of birth of those women somewhere between 1910 (if they are 45) and1920 (if they are 35).

Therefore they would be 103 to 113 years old.

Bad ideas did not "creep into that generation" Those women displayed most prominently in the photo were likely born between 1910 and 1920. That was three hundred years after slavery began in the south. The photo was taken in the mid-50's. That was 80 years after Jim Crow laws went into effect in the South. Those women were likely more tolerant of other races than their mothers or their grandmothers were. They were forced to make a drastic change to their way of life and way of thinking very rapidly, and the photo shows the consequences. It's no different than going into a church and trying to convince the women there that they are wrong, their mothers were wrong, their grandmothers were wrong, etc.

My father was born in 1928. He was the 20th child of grandfather who was 60 years old when he was born so grandpa was born in 1868. I lived with my grandfather and grandmother in Mississippi until 1964 when I started 1st grade.
All my earliest memories seem like they're from the 1800's when common folks had no grass in their yards and preferred hard packed earth so they could avoid snakes.
By experience I feel I've spanned centuries.
