Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button."2000 Light Years from Home" is a song by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released on their 1967 album Their Satanic Majesties Request.[4] Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, it also appeared as the B-side to the American single "She's a Rainbow", and charted as a single in Germany.
Jagger reportedly wrote the lyrics in Brixton prison following his conviction on drug charges in June 1967.[5] The song was recorded by the band at Olympic Studios during July and September 1967.[1] The working title of the instrumental backing was "Toffee Apple". Brian Jones performs prominent accompaniment on Mellotron.
I thought this was interesting about this song. I remember stories of Mick writing the lyrics after he was convicted of drug possession. I do think it was music in response to Pink Floyd.

I was beginning to move away from the Stones and was heavily into Pink Floyd when Satanic came out. i bought Beggars Banquet and a few more but by 69 I was attending PF openers in Earl's Court and not going to the Stones.
Like the Beatles they had a period of dabbling in Indian mysticism…the drugs they already more than dabbled in. Don’t think it had much to do with a belief that the Floyd were stealing a march on them!
I love the Stones rock n roll and blues music…they are probably the best band in the world in that category…but I have no time for that dreadful Maharishi drivel.
