Just because I love this song, and as today is the first of October….I have the excuse to post it here for you! It’s another different side and mood to a-ha, an early one from their second album Scoundrel Days, released in 1986. Morten Harket singing this in understated and almost hushed but seductive tones. Written by Pal Waaktaar, the inspiration to write it being the separation from his then American girlfriend (now wife) Lauren Savoy - he in London, she in Boston on a completely different continent and timezone. October - a-ha.

Is that all videos of London? So many straight streets surprised me. So much rush. I'd be very unhappy living there now.
The song is gentle and sad. Much better Aha to what you usually offer!

They are so diverse I don’t think there’s anything you could actually say was particularly usual or typically a-ha about their whole body of music. They have written and performed almost 200 songs over 40 years in a variety of moods and styles of tempo, from synth heavy rock to blues and gently melodic tunes with a message in the lyrics. Morten’s voice is what makes the a-ha sound…most of their songs are written around highlighting Morten’s five octave vocal range, which gives them plenty of scope, but in this one I’ve chosen it’s completely downplayed and he sings entirely in his lower baritone chest voice.

Very cool, I liked that a lot. No excuses ever needed. 🙂
