@johnprytz There is no "ground" as far as molecules are concerned. It's called quantum mechanics, makes sense to very few because it is so counter intuitive, and is quite literally the most accurate predictive model in science to date. It's also the reason I place so little value in pure thought experiments - no one can think of everything.

@johnprytz it's empty space, but there are forces acting within it that go counter to what you're thinking. In your example, if the tree trunk is all you're counting (its the proton that has mass) as matter then it makes sense. Add in branches and leaves (the field created by the electrons), however, and the effective "size" of the trunk is magnified a hundred fold. Trees can be 20 feet apart, yet if you try to walk between them you'll get caught in the branches. It's a much simplified and flawed explanation, but as close as I'm going to get.

@Beowulfsfriend then they had to do it again, to make sure nothing had gotten damaged when I moved. They got me back under pretty quick, but a 20 minute procedure ended up taking about 45 minutes. My wife was more than a bit worried.

@fishline79 I'm originally from Washington State, and there the ballot gets sent to you by mail so it arrives 2 weeks before election day. Can mail it back or drop it off at collection sites when it's convenient, as long as it's postmarked before election day is over. It's way to good of a system to be used nationwide, though, and your idea of moving the day to Sunday doesn't look like it'd solve much of anything, to me.
