Put on some old R&B and ask a 12 yr old to dance to it. Watch how lost they are when they can't twerk to it.
Can't imagine this song being twerked to. Well, not the new way anyway.
I laugh because some of the music that kids dance to runs at 90mph! I get tired just looking at them dance.
@IAJO163 usually I find something in all types of music to like. that chunga chunga chunga does get to me.
I think each generation does the same dance to any music... or at least I think it is dancing...people adapt...
How adept are you at other styles or generations of dance?
My grandparents taught me how to Jitterbug and Foxtrot.
My mother taught me how to do the Stroll, the Twist, and the Swim.
I'm teaching my grand-nieces and nephews how to do them ALL.
Along with the Hustle, the Electric Slide (which is quite similar), and
the goddamned Macarena.
They know Motown because I've played it for them.
They know Swing music because I've played it for them.
If kids don't know any of this stuff, it's because the adults in their lives
haven't bothered to teach it to them.
Don't blame the kids for not knowing. Put the blame with those who
are supposed to be teaching them.
Btw, I have instituted a strict "no-twerking" policy when they are with me.
It's what you teach them.
@KKGator but how are you with today's generation dancing or stuff like waltzes? Every generation has their own style. It isn't a big deal. I can't do any 70s dancing and i grew up watching American bandstand and soul train.
@CommonHuman I can't do any of the current dances. Nor do I wish to. My clubbing days are over. It's fine that they can, and it's fine that they should learn them. It's not about denying them their dances in the current age, it's about educating them as to everything else.
I detest twerking, that's why I have banned it in my presence. We're also at home, and not out in a club.
I can waltz, btw.
Adept? My bones will complain vehemently if I attempt to dance LOL!!!
@CommonHuman Who's blaming? I'm only stating a fact in today's society.
@CommonHuman Are you keeping abreast of what happens on social media? Todays youth post everything. I recognize that it's todays world we live in but some things are inappropriate and hard to take.
@IAJO163 said the adults about elvis prestley.
