Iowa voter: Trump’s lies don’t change my vote for him

Now what else we democrats need to understand that character is not something voters care? People want a doer. ... not an idealist, not a policy wonk and certainly not a model citizen or a priest.

I'm for any sane candidate in 2020. I'm a bit tired of Reality America with Reality TV in the WH and dominating the media.

Trump is a "lesser of evils" vote.

I would prefer to have a President who tells the truth, but I would rather have someone who spouts nonsense off the top of his head than any of the Democratic candidates.

Well, the voters put Jimmy Carter into office principally because he was seen as honest, in contrast to the corrupt Nixon catastrophe. Granted his opponent was the decidedly un-charismatic Gerald Ford, but he was running against Nixon, not Ford. And it worked. These are different times, and the propaganda has had a lot of time and plenty of media outlets to spread and metastasize, but you can effectively make a moral argument against this fucking embodiment of the seven deadly sins. And still provide a clear leadership profile and a progressive agenda. I understand that swift boating is now a standard republican tactic, but I get the feeling even the R's are getting tired of his bullshit. Especially those on the ass end of his stupid tariffs. Maybe I'm dreaming, but I don't think I am. YMMV. Lots of time between then and now.

Trump is not a doer and never has been, except in his continuing perpetuations of numerous frauds. Anyone who supports him has a broken crap detector -- unless the supporter is trying to hook a ride on the greed gravy train.

I watched that last night.
I wanted to slap the shit out of every single one of those people who still support 45.

The democrats had better get their shit together and get behind a single candidate.
I will support whomever is running against 45 in November of next year.

lol... How many people will you slap? A recent poll (not on Fox News) said Trump is likely to get re-elected. I am not happy about it but in fact sad that we can not deliver a competent challenge to Trump in spite of how he has outraged the nation.

@St-Sinner All of them, if I could. I'm sick of the unbelievable level of stupid in this country.

They have always been there but lately they have been winning. Is it because they are good at winning or we are bad?

@St-Sinner I think the democrats need to stop trying to show how different and "better" they are, and start going for the jugular. There's plenty of material to work with.

The stupid have been emboldened by the religious. The republicans have figured out how to make that work to their advantage.

@KKGator

Exactly my point.... "The republicans have figured out how to make that work to their advantage."

@St-Sinner Which is why I said the democrats need to do the same.

@KKGator exactly. Snd it's sickening.

@Freespirit64 I encourage fighting fire with fire.
Being "nice" doesn't do jack for putting out a wildfire.

Well, he does play a lot of golf.

So did Bush and Obama.
Fox News showed Obama playing golf and CNN/MSNBC show Trump playing golf. That is how it goes.

In the Iowa focus group, which is where I live, I see nothing but blind tribalism among almost all of them. They are so locked into voting for the lesser evil in some cases, and in others voting Repub no matter what. They may not be what are called low information voters, but they also are not what I call very deep thinkers. No wonder I have always felt alienated and often embarrassed by my state. In Iowa, we lefties privately call it North Mississippi.

Interesting how the older woman who supports Warren appears to be the most modest, least outspoken, but probably the most informed and deepest thinker of the bunch. And yet, even she seems to be stuck on identity politics over policy as she says it's important that Warren is not an old white guy, tho she is fairly old herself, meaning Warren.

Not much of a doer, either.

2

But what if his lies aren't limited to his marriage vows, his business dealings in Russia or his campaign promises. What if he lied about being a doer. What if his biggest skill wasn't his ability to accomplish things but instead to claim credit for fictional achievements or the accomplishments of others? How would the dumbest and most insecure of his supporters react as this started to come to light?

Exactly...but probably with an orange crayon...

So you would be ok with your wife, child, friends etc lying to you 10 times a day everyday? I doubt it!

Lying according to who? Conservatives thought Bill Clinton lied every day but he is our hero.

In politics my friend, there is no lying. There is only positioning.

@St-Sinner If that’s not a 2+2=5 answer if there ever was one. Is there vodka in your kool-aid?

A doer? What's he actually done?

  1. Aggressive immigration control, not just at the border but control all other legal visa categories
  2. Stand up to China about currency manipulation, trade deficit, unfair trade policies by China
  3. Be tough with Mexico on controlling immigration from the Guatemala border

Just 3 examples where he has delivered results that Reagan, Carter, Clinton, Bush, Bush or Obama did not.

What else you would like to know?

@St-Sinner 1. And it isn't working, record high numbers of people trying to get in. If you study what immigration actually brings into a country you see how stupid his immigration "policy" actually is.

  1. Starting an unnessecary trade war isn't standing up to, its grandstanding for the rubes. Its already hurting the economy, btw.

  2. Why should Mexico's boarder with Guatemala be Trumps concern? Or yours?

Those aren't results you should be proud of, btw, so far what little he's done has hurt far more than helped.

From you, nothing - it seems pointless. So shutting down notifications on this.

@1of5 Some of us are like the radical Trump voters. No matter what evidence and public opinion, we will not accept anything good on other other side. The conservatives thought there was not a single thing that Clinton or Obama did that was good for the country. This is exactly the thing that the American voter in the heartland America was turned off about.... pure hatred, gridlock, not agreeing, getting nothing done... therefore as Buttigieg says... they decided to burn the house down and bring in an outsider called .... Donald J. Trump.

@Ms_McSteven Go look up who said about death squads regarding Obama Health care. One side sees glass half empty while the other believe it is half full.

Kids in cages? Look it up. It was common in Obama years.

@St-Sinner That was all made up about the death squads, and the kids in cages under Obama. Wow you really are buying those lies. You can't tell fact from crap.

We know that tRump supporters are locked in no matter what...did we expect anything different?

Don't forget these voters include ex Obama and independent voters.

They do not want a virtuous guy in Washington. They want someone who can start doing things.

@St-Sinner I think almost everyone takes that with a grain of salt...like the young Republican said...if there were another Republican that followed her beliefs and values, she would rather have that...they care, but have no choice...I might even have voted for a Republican had the choice not been him...
