What is the most painful thing you’ve endured?
Me: Emergency appendectomy - my life was a living hell for 3 days before that, pain was worst ever, nothing would stay down, couldn't sleep or walk. I wished for a quick death.
I'll make it short. Abuse accidents fucked up back and neck. Live on meds 100x stronger than heroin
Needing a root canal on Sunday evening. I've done that twice, first time in 1985, second in 2017. In 1985 I went to an Army hospital ER which was 25 minutes from the base we lived in (USForces Germany), but they couldn't do anything for me except to get a dentist out of bed to open up his clinic at the base I lived on. I got an emergency root canal. In 2017 I had oil of cloves on hand, it works! I was able to fall asleep and call the dentist when they opened to get a root canal.
bowel obstruction with necrotic intestinal tissue that had to be resectioned. it hurt so bad I was guiding the gastric nasal tube down my throat myself to get relief.
Hmm, physically, it would have to have been when I was involved in a bicycle accident as a child. I went ass over teakettle, got a nasty shiner (but no concussion) and lots of scrapes and bruises from it. I remember having to remain awake for a certain amount of time (late into the evening) out of concern over a concussion and watching The Incredible Mr. Limpett on TV. LOL!
Emotionally, two things. The first was having to watch how my daughter looked coming out of what was considered to be fairly serious surgery for someone her age (5). I don't think she was every in any real danger. The surgery was for removal of her tonsils and adenoids, and also widening of her sinus cavities (and I can only imagine how that was actually done). When she came out of the surgery she looked like she had been hit by a bus. Her face looked badly bruised. It just broke my heart to see her like that. Again, it was just my reaction to her shocking appearance. I hate seeing children suffer and seeing her like that, well. The other emotional pain has to do with heartbreak and I can't share it in detail here, but I feel emotional pain from it to this day.
I had a sinus infetion which formed a block and put pressure on the trigeminal nerve (a cranial nerve). The pain was intense and put me into a fetal position elmost every evening for about 2 weeks. Pain-killers did not help. It took an unpleasant procedure called a sinus wash to relieve the pressure and pain.
I understand that people with persisting trigeminal neuralgia often commit suicide to escape the pain.
I had a very complicated, nearly natural childbirth, but I don't really remember the pain. Sciatica, though? Damn. When it's bad, its unbearable.
Assuming heartbreak doesn't count, that is.
I dislocated and cracked my kneecap. It was so painful I was screaming and, apparently, turning rather alarming colours.
Hiking at night alone, I jumped down a frozen waterfall and broke my leg at the ankle, 2 miles from home and crawled back, but that wasn't the painfull part.
After I got home, ate, laid down and carefully removed my boots and other clothes, my cat came in to investigate, saw something wrong with my ankle, put his paw on the busted bone fragment under the skin, and shoved it back into place without warning. I nearly jumped through the ceiling it hurt so much. In retrospect, he probably saved me a surgery.
I'm with you @Redcupcoffee. I had to have an emergency colon surgery, then another non-emergency one 6 mos. later. Hurt like hell.
While the surgeon was in there he removed my appendix. He said it looked a little iffy and didn't want me to have to come back to get it removed.
@Redcupcoffee Not good at all.
Collapsed vertebrae pinching sciatic nerve, had to 'walk' taking small steps and dragging left leg behind me at an angle. I could only go about 50 ft before I had to sit down. 2 months like this where every movement caused a severe sharp pain in lower back, most times severe enough to make you collapse and/or suck in air. Even breathing hurt, literally.
Bi-level fusion a year ago (today is the anniversay date) of L3-L4-L5 fixed most of it. I've been told I had better results than most people, at least I can walk now!!
My burst appendix was close, it was more intense, but that pain only lasted a few hours.
The day I spent doing IT phone support...
Impacted wisdom tooth with an abscess.
Thanx@JaciBea
Diverticulitis attack was the worst pain, rolling around in bed and loudly moaning. Severe gout hurts like hell, and rivaled the diverticulitis pain. And of course abcess teeth. Sheesh, I've been through some pain, but not right now. All my best to the folks who are in intense pain right now.
Mentally was losing a certain dog made me break down for days. physically breaking 3 toes and a bone in my foot
I don't do well with anaesthetic, it just doesn't work well with me, last year I had eye surgery and I could still feel it a bit, when I was 14 I had my sinuses scraped without any working anaesthetic.
I have been stung by irukandji jelly fish twice, bitten by red back spiders 3 times.
Nothing compares to walking on a stonefish. Seriously, nothing comes close. And sadly I was stung within about 100 meters of where I now live, so there is a chance it may happen again.
I had a stroke 6 years ago and sometimes still forget that my left leg doesn't always do as it's told .
This resulted in me thinking , one morning that I Could spin round quite quickly . Obviously
I fell .... Onto the corner of my wooden bed . I broke my sternum ..absolute agony even breathing ....for weeks .
my brothers death no physical pain ca be worst
Emergency appendectomy as well! Yep...the pain before and after was the worst I ever felt...my scar reminds me to do all I can not to have any more surgeries...
Passing kidney stones the size of a small marble, I thought I was dying, after the MRI and they knew what was going on my Dr and his nurse both agreed they had never seen a kidney stone that big.
I passed a 4mm stone and I thought I was dying. I'm a big baby.
