I have a tendency to delete any post I make that hasn't gotten any replies within a few hours. I've been deleting most of my posts lately which has left me wondering what people want from a post.

What makes a post work?

I've seen posts that are nothing more than a recipe for lemon bars get a couple dozen replies. Is that what people want, recipes? Well, I don't cook but, what the hell, here goes. This is my recipe for...

SCRAMBLED EGGS AND TOAST

You'll need:

  • Three (3) eggs
  • Two (2) squares of processed cheese
  • Two (2) slices of bread

One (1) mixing bowl, One (1) frying pan, One (1) toaster, One (1) plate

Crack all three eggs into the mixing bowl and beat til they are a yellow sludge. Let cat lick up any spillage off the floor. Pour sludge into frying pan and turn up heat halfway or all the way if in a hurry. Place bread slices into toaster at half heat or all the way if in a hurry.

Once eggs have cooked from a liquid yellow sludge to a solid yellow mass set cheese on top and let melt. While melting cheese, remove bread from toaster and spread with butter, or margarine, or plant-based spread that looks like butter or whatever Frankenstien concoction that's supposed to be healthier than butter that you prefer

Transfer eggs to plate, cut toast in half and add to plate alongside eggs. Sit all alone in the dark and eat while you question your life choices.

Feeds one (1) sad, lonely person.

Cat is optional..

My first post, Are You Lonely?, received over 100 replies and even more likes.

As a former national award-winning marketing director, I suggest:

  1. Ask an interesting question that applies to men and women.

  2. Use the word, "You," in the headline. "You" is one of the 18 most persuasive words in the English language, according to a study by Yale University.

  3. To end your post, add a trigger question: "Your thoughts?", "Suggestions?" or "What do you think?" A trigger question prompts a response.

  4. Post something positive.

I'll try this Not tonight but soon so keep your eyes open for it.

Well, there are some of my posts that get loads of replies others not even one. My last one just got one reply and it was just spot on!!! Don't take it too seriously.

I don't. This post is to make a joke of it, that ironically worked

@Sgt_Spanky, Jaysus!!! And I fell in it!!! 😅😂😄😆🤣

Has it been a few hours yet? 😂😂😂

Great recipe but where's the lemon bars?!

I've actually decided not to delete this one even if it flops because I've shared a piece of myself here. I gave cooking advice. That's a ballsy thing for me to do. That being said, I will share my recipe for lemon bars -- go to store, buy lemon bars.

@Sgt_Spanky I don't have all the ingredients for such a complicated and complex lemon bar recipe...

I'm a computer nerd. I've been a computer nerd since before it was cool. It would never occur to me to delete posts that didn't get any responses. I leave everything as is - it's history.

@Radu write a script. Load and execute it in the debugger.

My feeling is if the post tanked it has no use so trash it. However, as a result of this thread, I've extended the cutoff to 24 hours from the previous 3 hours or so.

I only get on once a day in early afternoon

Yes!!!

One wonders at times if intelligent life actually reads any of these posts, not directly involving god, food, or self torture from their religious upbringing!!!

For me cat is required. Consider time zones. I'm in Australia. Maybe leave for 24 hours?

I've agreed to start doing that.

@Sgt_Spanky Sometimes it may be months before I respond. I think my time scale is elongated.

1

um, you don't have any cat pitchers i take it then?
so, an example of what you are deleting maybe

They're gone. Let the dead rest.

Isn't there a group for recipes? I've seen pictures of food posted here, kind of like FB. LOL.

To paraphrase Groucho, I wouldn't belong to any recipe group that would have me as a member.

I am now following you and will try to comment on your next recipes!

I had no idea there was such a demand for bland, uninspired food by someone who can't cook. I guess you never know til you try.

@Sgt_Spanky I believe in you! 🙂

Just make it interesting to the group you're posting it.

I respond to all of your posts critical of Trump or Bernie.

sax and violins!

good recipes are always useful. especially in this time of the plague.

We can always buy a 5gal bucket of edible slop from Jim Bakker for $2500.

I have noticed that on average only 10% or less of visitors to a post bother to indicate their rsponse by applying an emoji.
Pretty pathetic IMO. They can express thumb up to dislike.
This post has done better than average.

sometimes there are so many to look at I pick and choose or I didn't like them so I didn't say crappy song or how bad is that

@whiskywoman it is not fence sitting.

@FrayedBear its a post on a stupid site its nothing to get all crazy about pretty unimportant in the grand scheme

@whiskywoman Why bother visiting.

@FrayedBear I love some science posts and most of the music lots of oldies and some I can add to my list and the political ones are great I just don't get all bunged up if no one seems to comment on my posts I post them to share and if no one likes then or me what do I care there are one or two ppl that post that I skip all their posts cause I don't like them mo biggie they have no idea and im satisfied too

@FrayedBear and I enjoy the part of my day when I come here but its a website full of strangers with some views I agree with and some I don't its not my life or family and I have no emotional response to being ignored why would I some unknown unimportant random comment isn't gonna hurt my feelings

@FrayedBear I have been really hurt by ppl I loved I know the difference

Do you, or anyone else, want a recipe for black pepper ice cream?

You can literally make an ice cream out of anything. I just can't imagine the flavor of black pepper being a good one.

But I know dick about it so do it.

@Sgt_Spanky I like black pepper’s taste, found a recipe at the public library, and did it several times. But anything? I won’t use garlic.

@Sgt_Spanky dick-flavored ice cream? Ummmm, no.

Feedback is nice (I complained about it when I was shooting for level 8 to get a tee. Was called some derogatory term I can't recall), but it is not essential. Sometimes I think of it as casting a message in a bottle into the ocean. At least here you know when someone has seen it. Often I've gotten the most gratification expressing a minority viewpoint and have someone chime in saying normally they're a lurker, but felt the need to voice agreement.

This quote comes to mind.

:-----:

"When I tell the truth, it is not for the sake of convincing those who do not know it, but for the sake of defending those that do."

~ William Blake
