While 47 states celebrate Juneteenth Day, Senators Booker and Kamala Harris introduce a bill to make it a federal holiday. Agree/Disagree????

I’ve celebrated Juneteenth for years, and would love to see federal recognition.

Why not? My skin color has no problem with this.

I'll just say yes for the holiday, but more needs to be done for the people in low income areas.

Yes they earned it

It doesn't seem significant enough to make it a federal holiday.
April 9, the day of Lee's surrender at Appomattox would make more sense.

I'm all for it if workers get a day off with pay.

Not a good idea, unless it is swapped for MLK or Columbus Day. And bad timing; the nation is already insanely polarized. Why not add in slavery reparations while you're at it? What do we give up to get it? Another 4 years of Trump? The country itself?

We need to figure out how to dial back, and this ain't it. This is pandering that Trump would be proud to own.

Why would we need to swap out another holiday for it?

@Sacrilege We wouldn't have to swap out another holiday, but how many holidays are we going to have? Plus, Juneteenth is only two weeks away from July 4. That seems too close unless we do away with July 4th. Under the circumstances (selling out the country to Russia), that would be appropriate. And when do we get 6 weeks of vacation like they get in Europe?

It’s neither here nor there for me and I’d be happy with them redoing Columbus Day and possibly thanksgiving but I do have one question though.

I’m 49 and haven’t lived in the whitest of worlds and have never heard of anyone celebrating this day before now.
So who started this movement and when?

I think it's a wonderful idea, but don't banks and the government slouch around every week or so with their holidays?

Those two dufuses are trying so hard to get credit for something.

Govt employees and people around those industries benefit the most from these types of "holidays". Govt employees are also huge voting block, as they cast votes for their own legitimacy.

Who cares about another scam to give govt workers who work for agencies that lose money, or only make money because of police powers, more paid time off from their already cushy jobs?

Meh. Not this one.
