Welcome to the Community

Agnostic is a non-profit community for people who require evidence before forming a belief. We recognize that believing something on faith alone, that is, having a conviction that a belief is true which is stronger than the available evidence, can lead to problems. While being agnostic is often associated with a skepticism of religious deities and is a popular theme on this site, we maintain that this same sense of skepticism should be applied widely to all beliefs one holds.

We hope to provide a safe place for people to share their thoughts and opinions, get involved in causes, keep up with news, and even meet others. We are not necessarily an anti-religion website.

Note: we share members and content (e.g., groups and posts) with our sister site at [humanist.com] which centers around secular philosophy.. You can remove your profile from agnostic.com on the bottom of your settings page.

We want to be defined by principles and not what we don't believe.

The following are core principles * we agree with:
Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.
Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.
The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.
Every person has the right to control of their body.
A god is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.
Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.
Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.
We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.
There is no one right way to live.
Leave the world a better place than you found it.

  • These guidelines can be found in the book 'Atheist Mind, Humanist Heart' by Lex Bayer and John Figdor

Agnosticism is the view that claims of truth should be held with a convinction appropriate with the amount of supporting evidence.

Community Guidelines
A key part of this site is the ability for members to post questions, comments, and links. As we want to ensure that this platform is inclusive and discussions lively yet productive, we would like members to consider the following guidelines. Help make this an intelligent place for discussion and it will be.

Remember that people come to their own truth differently.
We welcome debate and dissent but personal attacks, persistent trolling and similar abuse will not be tolerated.
Avoid profanity, vulgarity, etc. Arguments have more impact if they are polite and respectful.
Recognise that there is a difference between criticising a politician, government, organisation, religion or belief and attacking people.
Keep comments as short as possible while still getting your point across.
Stay on topic. If you want to create a new topic thread, simply post it using the "Post" button at the top
If you post a link to another site, please make sure that it's relevant to the discussion.
Whenever possible, do a search first to see if the topic has already been posted. Feel free to comment on the original post as your comment will show up at the top of the list when sorted.
Don't post anything commercial. If you think there is something that the community wants to buy, send it to us first πŸ™‚
Most importantly, don't advocate or make threats for bodily harm to any individual or group (including hyperbole). Doing so will result in immediate suspension or removal.

Please note that we reserve the right to remove any post for any reason. Obviously, we want to keep the discussion as open as possible but we have limits. While we do allow members who say they're religious to join, we not allow any religious proselytisation. We will also remove any content that may put us in legal jeopardy, such as potentially libellous or defamatory postings, or material posted in potential breach of copyright.

Two Websites in One
We share members and content (e.g., groups and posts) with our sister site at [humanist.com]. That is, we have a single database and simply adjust the message slightly for the two domains. Humanism is a set of principles to live a better life and to help reduce suffering. Learn more! You can remove your profile from humanist.com on the bottom of your settings page.

It's hard to understand how it could possibly be a humanist value to support the Christian Nationalism, Project 2025, against freedoms of the American people to choose what is right for them as far as love, marriage, family and personal/spiritual identity. Yet there are folks who stand behind a fascist team, willing to sell out our democracy for their own personal gain, foxes guarding the hen house, and wanting to punish women, migrants, anyone who doesn't pledge fealty to their team.

Hard to understand the disconnect between someone creating a site like this, but not also supporting the healthy dialog we need to go forward, not backward or become a totally different nation. I try to be respectful in my dialog, but I have wondered if my technical difficulties might lie in my socio-political leanings.

If we are lucky then it may be just glitches without human influence. I hope.

IF the problem corrects itself by November 5th I think we will all have our answer. As for Donald Trump, he can go shoot himself on Fifth Ave.

If the message was posted in a group, you can navigate directly to the group to try to read the post. That is what I did when I was redirected in the dame way when I tried to access a post in "Feline Fanatics" from the notifications drop down menu.

The site has gotten glitchy over time. I hope @Admin can find the time to so a little site maintenance.

I posted 0ver 20 posts in my groups since 22nd Oct, NONE have shown up in any of my groups, they are gone, kaput poof, disappeared.

@vocaloldfart I've just checked my posts and most of them are gone. Definitely all the political posts over the last month seem to have disappeared. However, there were a few quotes which I posted yesterday which are not political, but have disappeared as well

I think you are unable to see what @Lizard_of_Ahaz (and others) posted because the site admin is censoring content that is critical of Trumpty Dumpty.

I am experiencing a similar problem to that of @Lizard_of_Ahaz. My posts are being delayed and deleted with no explanation.

It's probably no mere coincidence that the content that @Lizard_of_Ahaz and I are not able to post is of a political nature, and critical of Donald J. Trump.

It pains me to have to say it, but given this blatant censorship of fact-based criticism that is backed up with links to reputable news outlets, it appears that the site administrator's claim of being "open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence" is just so much hot air.

Read the room, it's happening to everyone. It's happening to all kinds of posts not just political ones. It happens to mine seconds after posting them, hardly enough time to be censored by an admin. It's a site bug not censorship.

@Tejas Okay, if that is the case, then I stand corrected.

My next question would then be, is there a political dimension to the negligent administration of this site?

Is the general direction of the conversation here not what admin had hoped for, and have they consequently lost interest?

@Flyingsaucesir Tejas is full of shit most of the time...

@Lizard_of_Ahaz I know! πŸ˜‚

@Flyingsaucesir it's definitely the case 100%. The site has always been free to use the administration doesn't even advertise or ask for donations. So although I understand people's frustration with bugs on the site, I think people should look at the big picture. This site has been going since at least 2017, it's community has dwindled from thousands to hundreds to probably less than 75 active people. The administration has been fairly inactive for a few years now, its no surprise to me that the site is slowly falling apart and it shouldn't surprise anyone else. This site used to have so much activity that the only category I would look at or post in was "polls". If you are asking me do I think it's a political reason why the site owner is not maintaining the site, probably not but who knows. EDIT: most seem to have forgotten this site was originally intended to be a non religious dating site

@Tejas I've had a very few that have had the "Welcome to Community" censorshiip actually appear after a few days most however have disappeared. I've found however that reposting in general and Hello results in the post happening so long as I don't edit it in which case it goes into the stupid "FUTURE" post routine!
I should try posting something like "any cunts out there want shagging? to see if that results in the referral to site behaviour rules!

@Tejas and in that instance it didn't.

@FrayedBear When the FUTURE post thing showed up that was when a lot of this all started for me. Then it got worse going on into what we have now.
