First things first, if you have a good dirty joke to share don't hold out on us.

Depending on what level of friendship your aiming for, it can take between 50-340 hours to become friends with someone, according to a recent study.

If you'd rather not take that much time here's a few pointers that have always worked for me. Though it's worth noting that my humor is derived very much in the moment and plays off my current conversation/scenario.

  1. Pay attention. This is the foundation and should be considered to go hand in hand with all other points. Some people will make it real clear pretty quickly what their tolerance for such anecdotes is.
  2. Test the waters. Start small and build to the more risque stuff slowly. Coupled with point 1 this will help you find the line fairly easily.
  3. Bring it back around. Try to find a way to use their own words from an earlier point in the conversation to fuel the joke. (Point 1 will help you here.) It helps ease any potential discomfort and makes most jokes more palatable if they had a hand in helping you craft it.
  4. If needed, apologize. Always be prepared to offer a sincere apology if you find that you crossed the line with this person. It may not be immediately apparent that you have done so, which is why point 1 comes back into play. Not everyone will make it plain that you've made them uncomfortable so pay attention to the aftermath and apologize accordingly.

Two young male attorneys are walking along a Cozumel shoreline when they run upon an absolutely beautiful woman lying naked and unconscious on the beach.

Lawyer 1: Let's f*** her!
Lawyer 2: Outta what?

All these jokes have a definite whiff of misogyny.

That depends on the person and the environment.

Depends on the person. I just realized that a lady was becoming a close friend when I almost spilled out a dirty comment...looked at her...and then said it. It kind of cemented our relationship as friends.

How long is the joke?

2

I don't have to know them at all, but I do have to be able to judge or assess the person or people I am addressing. This may depend on age gender or cultural backround.

2

A lack of familiarity seldom stops me. Sometimes l just like to see the look on someone's face. ?

We were talking about American beer (Miller, Schlitz, Coor's, etc.) in the faculty room at my school and I was surprised to learn that many did not know the saying about American beer.

"It's like making love in a canoe."

Of course everyone here has heard it right?

2

it's relevant to the situation, not the amount of time

2

30 seconds if they don't like it I don't like them lol

2

It's not a matter of how long, but how well.

What is:
Long and thin
Covered in skin
Red in parts
Goes in tarts?

Misogyny eye roll.

@Ellatynemouth Misogyny? It has nothing to do with women, the answer is rhubarb of course! That's your dirty mind at work! 😉

Yeah ! About 2 seconds. Too bad if they hate me for it !

After breakfast my dear.

Five minutes?

If the opportunity arises, any time is the right time. You need to take risks for comedy, and holding onto a joke is almost always a mistake.

1

Depending on the circumstances, it might not be very long. My point of view is we're adults, it was funny to me, and the earlier you know that about me the better.

Sometimes, their response tells me if I want to know them better. I'm a Doug Stanhope fan... dark dark humor. If they can't handle a peepee joke, they shouldn't be around me for extended periods of time.

1

Me? About 2 and a half seconds.
But I'm inappropriate, just ask my teaching mentors.

I think it depends on the circumstances. I know of groups that used innuendo all the time. So, in that circumstance, any time is possible. But, in general, I would always refrain from telling a dirty joke. Not unless I know the person well. From my religious background, dirty jokes are NEVER told.

I find it a good way to judge a person, so not very long. If they don't like It, then they probably aren't my kind of people anyway.

It would depend on the person

About 2 hours

Telling jokes is all a matter of timing. You just have to choose an appropriate time, which varies from one person to another. Or, in other words, it depends on your audience.

What do you mean by "dirty."

I guess I am a total fuddy duddy. I never tell dirty jokes. Actually I never tell jokes at all. I'm more of an ironic commentator with a touch of acerbic wit
