It’s not just the fringe anymore. Mainstream conservatives are trying to turn Christian scriptures and beliefs into American law.

So, I wonder, how are these Faithfools going to handle a situation where one them is convicted of Murder then, are they going to immediately apply the "Eye for an Eye, Tooth for a Tooth" bible ideology or suddenly jump up and scream out " Vengence is mine sayeth the Lord" and let the killer go about his/her merry way until the Sky Daddy gets around to enacting his never to happen Judgment day?
How are they intending to treat all those Paedo-Priests amongst their flocks?
Will they simply follow along with the bible adage of " If thine nose, etc, offends thee, then cut it off," or in the case of a Paedo-Priest will it be HIS offending 'member?"
Are they going to follow fully the teaching of their Christ, Messiah and foresake all their worldly goods and chattels, no longer seek personal wealth/riches and possessions thus just becoming penniless beggars wandering around the country preaching, I don't think so, they merely do their usual and 'Cherry-pick' what suits their purposes imho.

There goes your 'amendments'!

1

Are you referring, in part, to abortion and euthanasia?

Euthanasia is one topic that is of considerable interest to me, since I'm getting old and have had a couple of medical problems lately.

I don't see it. How so? Which scriptures into what law?

Women to be subject to males. Kill gay people, have slaves, have "dominion"....where have you been? Welcome back from Pluto, I guess.....

@AnneWimsey Which new laws or bills are in process to do that? To what christian scripture are you referring? We cannot just fabricate boogeymen.

@beenthere Geez Louise, read the article, they want the whole thing made into the Laws of the Land. i.e. EVERY Biblical Law/Commandment (well only the Commandments that suit them that is) in the entire book of bullshit.
That would eventually mean that they could outlaw Atheism/Agnosticism completely, persecute us LEGALLY and Legitimately just as was done for centuries before, Non-whites and women would again be subservient to men, etc, etc.
Any freedoms we had from religion/religious impositions would be gone completely and utterly, laws could then be enacted to FORCE people to attend churches, etc, as well.
Imo, this would be a far worse scenario/situation that the Spanish Inquisitions ever were given the great numbers of 'radical' Evangelical, etc, cults/belief systems that sitting in the 'wings' just biding their times for such a thing to happen.
No-one is 'fabricating boogeymen' my friend, they are real and they have been waiting around for decades, if not a century or more.
And, before you eventhink or say it, I am NOT being paranoid.

@Triphid The USA is pretty open about the process of creating laws. You can go to the house of representatives and senate website to see what laws exist and are being proposed. I'm sorry if you wasted your time on propaganda but you need to go to the source.

If you care to know more, here is an explanation of the process on the senate website:
[senate.gov]

@beenthere So when is your system going to realize that Private Gun Ownership for one and all is really no longer needed and by allowwing it they are killing off Americans both Black, White and every other skin tone like gareners kill off weeds?

@Triphid Not sure what you mean by 'my system' and don't see the relation to the post.

@beenthere The American, U.S. A. system of free and easy gun ownership is what I was referring to.

I agree with you entirely and this really scares me. I am so disheartened by the way fundamentalist thinking is taking over our politics.

4

They have to do this to claim their "Christian Nation" belief. They believe that old "thou shalt have no other gods before me" gave us rules and law. Without him we would have nothing. It never occurs to them that he was a tribal god.

5

Yes, unfortunately this is so, however they are not interested in scriptures or beliefs or following Jesus. They are only interested in money and power.

3

It is not surprising at all. The writing has been on the wall on that one for a while now. They may end destroying the country if unchecked. They got a foot in the door imposing 45 on us. Now they have hundreds of conservative judges on the benches, and they are now mounting legal challenges to all the progressive causes gained during the last 60 years. They are serious about it and most likely they will win because we have not been serious about stopping them.

3

Not exactly a news flash. I've observed it all my life. It differs little from ideological fanatics trying to also change our laws and governing documents to be more aligned with their notions that government should be large and centralized. Right has it's Christian fanatics and the Left, their Socialist/Communist wing-nuts. Neither deserves the kind of government that allows their meddling.

The Constitution, if followed SECULARLY, provides for expanding protections of liberties and protections of citizens via rational, constitutionally balanced state and local laws.

1

They have always held those desires but never this much concerted power. We are in trouble.

7

This country is under attack from within by the Republican/Evangelical right who are trying to undo democracy and the Constitution and replace it with a combined authoritarian-theocracy.They want to unmake the country the Founding Fathers established and remake it into a conservative Shangri-La.

This is what the blind adoration of Trump and Jesus gets you.

Could not have said that better. Applause.

Not all conservatives are Christian or even Christian. Many libertarians are atheists. Also, there is a large and growing number of those that are non religious and even liberal religious. The minister (a woman) of the church tRump went to with the %*&@# bible did not like it and gave a talk on NPR about how it did not represent true Christianity. There will be a big battle and if the Republicans lose the senate it will not happen. If the senate is won they will dump tRump and probably rescind all his 'executive orders.' We need to remember fundamentalist christians [sic] are a real minority.

3

That is what happens when religion co-mingles with politics. The co-mingling defiles both.

3

That’s fine. I tend to want to inact laws that are in line with my non-belief. Is it so different?

Does your non-belief have a faction that believes folks should die or suffer for being themselves? Then yes.

You know the difference between a wolf and a sheep, right?

@Gareth Is this the start of a joke?

3

Its a great book for child care tips.

There were times I considered drowning my teenagers, and I was accused of trying to poison them, but I'm sorry, broccoli isn't poison. However, they all made it to adulthood and are good sorta well adjusted taxpayers now.

2

Greatly exaggerated as usual. With church membership in decline, I don’t think we need to worry about a Christian theocracy.

And there’s that continual equating of the religious right with Evangelicals. The Southern Baptist Convention is the largest evangelical group, and it specifically endorses the separation of church and state. A Pew poll shows that only 11% of evangelicals are “Christian Conservatives”.

I see that the article comes from the UK. They should know all about religious government since there is no separation there

@Allamanda My knowledge of the UK is shallow no doubt, having never been there. But I can read articles such as this:

[latimes.com]

It seems odd that the Brits would be crying wolf about the spectre of “theocracy” in the US while they still have an official state religion.

On second thought, it’s not odd at all. They’ve been reading the same silly, fear-mongering articles that are imposed on the US public daily by our one-sided hypocritical press.

This is probably a fairer and more accurate source for the English conundrum:

[theguardian.com]

They've been doing it for years..since "prayer" was taken out of public school..

Please define “prayer” in your post. Prayer was not taken out of public schools. Any kid who wants to pray can do so at any time.
Government-mandated prayer was taken out of public schools.

@yvilletom I think she meant forced prayer.

@PondartIncbendog Probably. Quoting the word does imply a special use.
Charlene was wise to not use the word “forced” cuz theists say peer pressure is not force, therefore no one was forced to pray.
In short, people who are stressed tend to take words literally.

Christians are the worst zealots in the world
they think they can tell us all how to live and this has been a getting worse
Trump has allowed the lines to blur
the tax scam allows churches not only to keep their tax free status while telling parishioners how to vote now but it allows churches to launder money to any campaign anonymously(illegal under our constitution)
Cruz allowed churches to receive tax dollars to rebuild after hurricanes(illegal)
Barr.....barr is a total wack job and who knows what he has been doing behind the scenes

7

We must strengthen the wall of separation between church and state!

5

This is a slope I fear we've been sliding down for some time now. If you've ever wondered why in the bloody hell anyone who purports to be a Christian would support someone like Donald Trump, it lies in the power he has to push them through the door. It's a game of "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours," they both pretty much want the same end game. Sigh.

Two whores going through the door.
