This week, Sudan abolished the death penalty for apostasy, while "secular" Turkey arrested someone for insulting Muhammad. As some countries make small steps towards enlightenment, Turkey goes backwards under an Islamist party. It's hard to watch.

The fascism of islam, and communism, and socialism, is invading everywhere. Europe is in grave danger.

The carriers in the west are the leftists demanding adherence or be canceled.

"We are the left. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."

Islam: spread by the sword for 1400 years....

Yes, it is hard to watch. And if we are not careful we will see similar things become normalized in the USA. Fascist Christians are on the march!

I’ve always considered blasphemy to be the antithesis of religion. If your sky fairy can create the universe, why can’t it punish those who break its rules? Blasphemy is the idea that your God is too pathetically weak to do anything and you have to help it out. In which case, why worship it?

It’s extremely sad to see the secular state founded by Ataturk dismantled piece by piece by Erdogan...but one has to ask why do the Turkish people keep voting for him and his regressive policies.

Unfortunately America is headed the same way- towards a theocracy. If orange blob gets in again- and he just might, especially since moscow mitch will not allow any funding for electoral safeguarding and the efoorts of the gop (aka, gestapo old party, among other things). A theocracy is what right-wingers, christian nationalists, neo-nazis, klan members and the like aspire to.
They are not only anti-science but also have a perverted view of history.

I have no idea why you are worrying about them & ignoring what is happening right here.....

Mostly because an Orange Asshole is making it easier for people all over the world to be filled with hate and operate out of hate.

You're both right! I just started working in p*** county Florida. I am one of 3 out of 20 people wearing a mask in my dept. These country bumpkins I can overhear saying "I don't believe the numbers" and "I ain't wearin' no mask!" And you know these assholess are ALL idiot trump followers and religious. I struggle to keep my mouth shut. I like my job and having my salary doubled. Until.we can get these middle 'merica folks to face the science, we're fucked!

Examples such as this raise my nullifidian ire. When wielding political power, religions--particularly Christianity and Islam--strive to achieve conformity. Knowing that, no matter how hard they try, they cannot force one to believe, they seek the acquiescence of hypocrisy. Religions are not naturally progressive. They do not seek to expand human rights and, in particular, are wary of knowledge that differs from their established codes and doctrines. Religions fossilize otherwise healthy and expanding minds.

I've probably got multiple arrest warrants in the Arab world. Every time one of their scammers calls my phone I inform him that Mohammed was a pedophile

Oh, fudge.

I was so hoping on a traveling companion to Iran this winter. 😒😉

I know what you mean.
Unfortunately, according to what I've gathered from my admittedly limited reading, the Koran makes even small steps toward the enlightenment about which you speak almost impossible. This is because the penalties are so severe, for even the slightest deviations from fanatical devotion, few dare to stray.
Christianity has lost it's iron grip on it's target population, which is not to say it wouldn't love to regain that grip if it could.

Who said there's no such thing as time travel. Welcome aboard. 😁

That's the problem with non secular vs religious administrations, it's always back and forth ad infinitum!

Don't they realize that dead people cannot be insulted?

1

Disturbing!!!!! I hope the people will protest.

Sad indeed.
Blasphemy laws (like witchcraft laws used to be in this country) are simply a convenient way of ridding yourself of inconvenient people while at the same time virtue signaling what a "good" person you are.

Last night I watched a 2014 Rick Steves travelogue through Turkey. It was prolly the most political Rick Steves program I ever saw. And in it, the constitunial separation of mosque and state, was mentioned and highlighted several times, even compared to America's separation of church and state.

But sadly, this was 6 years ago.....

@LimitedLight He's been around for quite a while on PBS.

[ricksteves.com]

@LimitedLight Rick Steves owns his own travel company, complete with a line of travel products. He's written books about travel and links them in with travel videos. Most people are introduced to him via the Public Broadcast System (PBS). He's best known for travel videos in Europe. Many people discover that he has an entire army of tour guides working for him in most of the places he visits.

If you watch his videos, you'll notice he always has SOMEBODY who shows him around. He never identifies that person as his employee. The little sweetie has a freaking EMPIRE.

Hit You Tube and search for "Rick Steves Turkey" and you'll get an array video choices.

'merca is inching it's way in that direction under Christianity.

Speaking as an agnostic atheist, if given the choice between living in a nation of Islam or in a nation of Christianity, I would choose the one with the ideology which does not advocate violence as a pathway to world domination.

President Trump would never allow it. He'd insist on giant steps.

@Aristippus Give Trump a chance, he'd piss on the pope.
