Do Civilisations Survive?
RiverRick comments on Dec 10, 2018:
Unless Earth is swallowed by a rouge black hole... I don't see any way that our civilization completely ever dies out. We will have natural and man made bottlenecks that wipe out up to 90% (which is what we need now!) but, like cockroaches.... Humans will survive in some form. EDIT - Or evolve ...
Beowulfsfriend replies on Dec 10, 2018:
Unless we head for the stars, assuming we don't expire sooner, we will die off when the sun dies, a given. If we survive all that, the universe will end, collapsing in upon itself. P.S. a recent study claims the end of humans will kill off most cockroaches as they have linked their species' survival so tightly to us. Something to smile about.

Prescott also tried to start a coup. The retired general he approached, who had been a quite vocal opponent of FDR's policies sat, listened, nodded agreement, and then went straight to the government. Since it was near to the 1940 election and FDR and the democrats didn't want any sort of press to encourage a dissent, they squashed it and held it over Prescott to shut him the F up.

Beowulfsfriend replies on Dec 5, 2018:
I won't convict him. My main idea or point I wanted to generate is how people will believe most accused except the holy roller conservatives like Trump and his minions. Back to Tyson's guilt. I held out, hoping, and now it seems there was at least one public accusation as far back as 2010 that has been hushed up by certain media. Again, I hope it is not true, but working in social work, having been a teacher and having studied psychology, the statistics point toward guilt once more evidence keeps being exposed. I am even more sure of Trump's guilt. And of certain others. Again, there is no certainty, but only probability. False reports, when multiple accusers are present, are statistically rare.

Even after 1066, the last Britain would be conquered, the language of the court remained French. William was a Norman. The Celts come first, more or less, then the Anglo - Saxons conquered them, then came the Normans. Some if the words came from the differing classes, but not all, like fuck is from the French. Often, the more readily used words would devolve as they became more common and the act became considered more offensive. All language continues to grow and evolve or it dies. Fag has been around for a while, but queer has joined the no no lexicon in the last 60 years give or take. Dick and pussy are relatively new, in language years as no no words. One thing I find very interesting is how certain words that have no link to offensive words become themselves offensive. More on that later.

Wanking it to an anime character isn’t perverted as far as I’m concerned.

Is it considered perverse because of their age? If so, does wanking to them indicate an issue? Questions, no judgment included.
Beowulfsfriend replies on Nov 23, 2018:
If so, what about the porn sites that use young looking, but of age, women? Should those that visit be punished? Personally, I may be old school, but having taught 22 years including some college I have always felt getting involved with your students, even if peers by age, is immoral.

Hmmmmmm. It might be against (I don't know for sure) the federal criminal code to possess or view child-porn-like anime. I trust that you are staying clear of something like that. But then again, masturbation to non-deviant pictures and videos doesn't hurt anyone either. So I am concerned that...
Beowulfsfriend replies on Nov 23, 2018:
That has already been fought in court, with differing results: someone never convicted of child molestation/ porn / etc has first amendment rights to possess writings and drawings of unreal or created characters. However, in at least one other separate case, a convicted pedophile was resentenced to prison for a parole violation for having around written material, even though it was fictional.
What do people think about Ivanka and her government emails on her private server?
okiestache comments on Nov 20, 2018:
I'm amazed how instantly the purveyors of false equivalency between Trump and any other president can suddenly discern the most subtle differences between Hillary's email server and Ivanka's private domain.
Beowulfsfriend replies on Nov 20, 2018:
So, enlighten people to those differences. What are they? Do they differ from other past staff, like Powell or Rice, et al? I spent a few years in Naval Intel and I'll listen to anybody (believe me, I have, including 1980 visitors in Kabul. And Philippino communists.what's one more person on the edge, so to speak)

Beowulfsfriend replies on Nov 20, 2018:
@Gurahl there are exceptions to every rule. I agree with some of what you say and disagree with some. I don't or didn't mean to suggest it us a simple solution. Universal health care would answer many problems associated with having or not having children. I am a firm believer that there are never any simple solutions for complex problems. All I really want to do is to point out the inequality in women's health care and the irresponsibility of many men. Those are two things I believe we could agree upon. One only need look at the statistics of the amount of past due child arrears. And yes, some of that is a ridiculous system. I have seen men locked up when laid off work for failure to pay; in one case, I know the fellow was trying his best to find work and make his payments. So, yes, it is a very flawed system.

Beowulfsfriend replies on Nov 20, 2018:
@Veteran229 as a vet myself, I will be kind. Obama didn't hand out his phone number to foreign nationals, nor use it to tweet, nor carry it into official meetings. He also, under public scrutiny, had it checked often, which, while it is possible, no one knows about the current President. And why make a specious argument? No one on the anti Hilary side wanted to hear, or would accept, a similar argument that both Rice and Powell, and possibly others in their jobs did the same thing.

@powder I would agree, and add the UK. When the Soviet Union broke up, Ukraine became the third largest nuclear weapons holder in the world. Under an agreement of protection from outside forces, the U.S. and the U.K. got Ukraine to allow them to remove and dismantle all the weapons. @Carin oh yes. And as their father was an evangelical minister I tried to be kind and make it a history lesson only, telling how the Catholic church took a Pagan holiday date to help convert more souls and, excuse me, even used the bibly (how I like to pronounce it) talks of shepards in the fields, and that tax season for the Romans wasn't winter and the winters kept the sheep and shepards closer to home. Of course who knows what sunk in. I had one argument with an evangelical who said the trinity always existed and it was not voted on, even when I listed the dates and told him the concept was only first written about in the 2nd century. He quoted to me from the King James bibly, the worst translation of the bible known in modern times.

Being a super fan doesn't make you a coach. Being a coach makes you better. Look what happened at Notre Dame, now many years ago, when they brought in a top high school coach to coach college football. At every level coaching is a jump and you have to respond in a different manner. I've coached young kids, middle school, and high school and I don't doubt had I transitioned higher it would have been hard for me. Even at the high school level, I found it harder because I was better at teaching skills and a love of the game, not the win no matter what attitude one needs.

It is a burned in memory that is no more than just that, a memory like a movie scene.

@Tompain1 I don't see that happening. Moving toward a more Swiss or Icelandic or Canadian way is more likely. More requirements for ownership like training and no domestic abuse or mental health issues. And no semi automatics. Lots of guns in Switzerland, but all the men stay in the reserves until 57 and continue to train. Iceland has one third of its population with guns (Not sure the actual percent of U.S. citizens with guns but more than enough guns to around) and Iceland makes all owners take safe gun courses and train like getting a car license.

He owned no slaves; raised horses and got a commission by supplying some. That said, glad he lost and glad he lived. Simply look up solitary confinement. People who kill in prison and get caught seldom do it again because they are alone 24/7. And I won't argue against that. I can give examples of inmates who kill who have received the death penalty and many who have been put into solitary. I have never seen any not punished. I will look. I highly doubt it exists. What do you find more vulgar? Some verbal word usage or a bloodied corpse caused by someone who did not need a background check and killed his killfriend whom he had been abusing. Of course I know, she should have been armed (statistics don't support that reasoning - people with guns get shot at a higher rate) and let's say she was sleeping when her assailant shot through the bars on her window with his AR15. Too easy to throw out discourse because if your easily offended "moral" stance. And before you ignite me because I am just some anti gun libtard, well not exactly. Ex military. Owned my first gum at 13. I do, however, find nothing in the 2nd amendment that precludes background checks, nor training. WTF. Pretty much your entire argument has been refuted by scientific research. Any prisoner not following the rules spends days, weeks, years in solitary confinement. Sometimes that is the correct for only course of action and at other times it is used to shut someone up, to stop a peaceful protest, or to manage a mentally ill inmate (quite common). 2 things that are moving off topic: what about the way the system is now being privatized and such a moneymaker that it gives incentives for a greater amont of incarceration? Or, how about an old Carson routine: want to stop drugs, etc, then execute some bankers who launder the money.
