Epsom salt is magnesium, an essential plant nutrient, so I doubt this would work. I use table salt. & it can be any brand of detergent, it just serves as a surfactant so it doesn't roll off the plant, & it helps it soak into the soil. It will kill most weeds, at least the tops, but you have to drench them all through the root zone to have any chance of real eradication. It isn't systemic the way Roundup is--it has to contact all the parts of the plant. Don't use it where you want anything else to grow, but it's good for weeds that are coming up through cracks in the pavement or a gravel path. Boiling water is also good in those situations.

I'm very disappointed to read this. I was a delegate in CA NOW back in the 80s or 90s & we had some talks about why we were all white. My feeling was, & still is, that most of the people who have the time to volunteer, especially large amounts of time, are middle class. I tend to see a lot of things from the standpoint of classism though. Racism is absolutely the reason most of the middle class is white but I don't believe they are middle class BECAUSE they are white--though I'll listen to any counterarguments as I am still beginning to learn about intersectionalism. Anyway, we didn't really get too far in our discussions about it, but a moment sticks in my mind where we were discussing our (I thought) common belief that Christianity is inherently sexist & one of our few hispanic delegates started crying & said this is why feminism is not attractive to non-whites. The one point of hers that I did understand was that churches can be a real focal point in black & hispanic communities & provides a sort of emotional refuge & also a way to organize. You can see this, I think, by how so many of the slave songs about freedom invoked christian images & ideas, & also by how many Black civil rights leaders have/had the title Rev. Similarly, Malcom X's philosophy was very intertwined with his religion, although he wasn't christian. I'm sorry to say I didn't really understand what she was trying to say about how she felt about our opinion that Christianity is sexist or how she dealt with it, but she was really upset & ended up leaving the room. We all felt sad & hopeless I think. I know I could feel a huge gap & did not see an easy way to close it any further....there was some discussion about amending the bylaws I think. So I don't know what my point here is except that it sounds like things haven't improved much in the past couple decades. And I don't think canceling the march is going to help with the big picture. In my opinion, until societal racism is significantly weakened things are not going to change a lot.
