This is something the world needs a lot more of, desperately.

It would be very easy to engineer higher intelligence into humanity - just as getting more milk from a cow, more meat off a sheep .. it is simply a selective breeding programme - eugenics (most people will freak about now) Humans use selective breeding in many animals and plants - but deny it could be useful to humanity.

Not a single woman in the Alabama state Senate voted for the uber repressive abortion law.
ShadowAmicus comments on May 16, 2019:
Sorry, but I don't understand the logic in the argument 1. Are there no women at all in the state senate? 2. Is the law about abortions in taxis - not sure why a woman would opt for this, but would be a convenient 'home' service - I can see why some would wish to repress it 3. The image of the senators playing with a womans body - is she dead? is this necrophilia? A wierd alabama game 4. Do we have a very aged male population in alabama, or is it a boon only given to senators? 5. ......... sorry again, lost it in the end personal opinion - any woman should be able to access safe abortion services but - any state or country has the right to pas its own laws it is not right to impose your views on others - that is the basis of tyrany you do have the right to move to alabama and work to democratically change the law there

Why do we keep consuming poison on cans?
ShadowAmicus comments on May 12, 2019:
It is mass marketed because the masses drink the stuff. Putting back on my old chemist hat - Iron oxides (rust - FeO, FE2O3, Fe3O4, iron is multivalent and the middle one is what you normally see as rust) are much less stable than aluminium oxide (Al2O3)). Anodising is the controlled development of oxide on aluminium, often used on extrusions for window frames, etc, to prevent pitting by oxidation in the air and attack by acid. Am not sure if coke cans are anodised oe just have a paint or laquer protection, maybe both. If you put a copper coin, or rusty steel into coke, it will be cleaned as the acid attacks the oxides on the surface, but try the same on an old bit of aluminium and there is no effect, apart from maybe loosening grime. Don't worry about alzheimers - the acid in coke is going to destroy your digestive tract well before your brain goes.

ShadowAmicus comments on May 11, 2019:
It would have been around 1995 when I spent a week working in Macon, Georgia. It was around that time a black guy was chained to a pick up truck and dragged to his death - and I dont remember the details of who, why, etc. I remember trying to tune the radio as I drove to Macon from Atlanta and getting one crazy church minister after another - each one extolling gods virtue - so long as you sent a donation - and seeing the churches set back from the road with car parks like a drive in cinema. And talking with guys at the factory I was working at, in malls, at the hotel - it was exteremely clear - racism was a foundation stone in the culture of the city..,accepted as normal by everyone. I doubt it will have changed that much in 20 years.

I think the outrage is that any cult can enforce its ideas across any country. But a cult in one country has no authority to impose its views onto a cult in another country.
Asian curries are strongly associated with Chilli peppers, but I wonder what their curries were like...
ShadowAmicus comments on May 10, 2019:
Hot curry is really more predominant in the west - stupid guys blistering their mouth trying to outmatch each other rather than simply getting out a ruler and measuring their dicks. I spent 5 years working around India and rarely had a hot curry. Each area of the country has its own speciality, but they tend to be incredibly subtle and tasty with tomatoes, onion, garlic, almond, honey, predominating above chilli...and fruit and pulses more common than meat. In northern India you can find the old Mughal/Persian dishes, which are a delight to the senses.

I have done this, quite often, with the knowledge of my wife - 'You do whatever you need to come back safe to me'. The only (and best) way to hang onto sanity is sharing time with someone, over a drink, a meal and if that leads to making love, so be it. Common criminals
ShadowAmicus comments on May 8, 2019:
It is not brainwashing, it is just the releasing of a primeval human desire to kill. The only reason people do not habitually kill each other all the time are the social and moral constraints that come from civilisation - the adherance to a particular group or culture in which they live. Once those social boundaries are relaxed or removed humans revert to primeval mode and the urge toward violence is high...which is why throughout history victorious soldiers often kill, rape and pillage after a battle - which they would never do in their domestic setting - simply because they can. It is uncommon anong Western armies, but not unheard of. It was extremely common as the Russian army went through Germany at the end of WW2, but possibly in retaliation for what Germans did on the way into Russia. It happens frequently, now, in African conflicts - women raped by soldiers and maimed or killed afterwards - pre teen children killing as if they were born to do it. The depravity of humanity without social constraints is scarily awesome to behold.

Hijab is to protect a man's property
ShadowAmicus comments on May 5, 2019:
A headscarf, hijab, burqua or chastity belt do not prevent a woman looking at a man and thinking to herself 'I could fancy that' any more than a mans' clothing prevents him thinking of women he sees, What determines any action is social values and the influence they exert on personal choice. While infidelity may be generally frowned on in western society (exempting France where it is a national hobby) it does not hold the possibility of being stoned to death, as is the case in some parts of the world. I have no problem with a woman wearing a face or head covering if that makes her feel more comfortable in a social setting... but am saddened that the choice may be due to pressure from a male dominated society and the draconian penalties that may be incurred.

If I agree I may speak to support you - and if I disagree I may speak against you - most likely I will keep my own counsel. There is a move across UK Universities to 'no platform' certain people with controversial views. A university should hold the finest minds in the country, capable of dissecting ideas and highlighting failures in a proposed argument. So they go through life sucking in the media viewpoint of their choice, without the ability to research, analyse, assess and think for themselves.
