Scientists establish link between religious fundamentalism and brain damage - Alternet.org
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 30, 2022:
Not surprising, but it seems like the most common reason people are fundies is that they were raised that way by their parents, who were also fundies.

TMA2NC comments on Jul 30, 2022:
I indulged just for kicks. I scored under 11, so no narcissism detected. However, I scored high in self-sufficiency which I've been told turns men off, so there's that.
anglophone replies on Jul 30, 2022:
I hit the 0-11 range. I have an acquaintance who comes across as highly self-sufficient - she has had two highly unsatisfactory marriages. She very occasionally shows a tiny bit of vulnerability, and then "clams up" again - I feel that she does not want any emotional closeness. I regard that as her choice, and I perforce respect that choice.

It's tough watching the US unravelling before our eyes in real time. I wouldn't have thought this would happen in my lifetime, but everything now happens at an accelerated pace, including empire disintegration. These regular mass shootings are symptomatic in my view of a society that is sick to the...

@linxminx, @phxbillcee The word negro was a term of respect where I grew up. Think "negro spiritual" being a term for a type of song. Aboriginal and blackboy were also respectful words when and where I was growing up. In my jaundiced view, it is only because mental defectives use those words in a derogatory way that the meaning changes.

@linxminx That list came straight off the top of my head. I thought of a context, and came up with words commonly used in a derogatory way in that context. As @phxbillcee has demonstrated and you have suggested, context is everything. Adding to the retarded context, it is also a perfectly valid technical term in ignition systems for petrol engines. If somebody is utterly determined to take offence on every possible occasion at everything (and that happens as you have so beautifully demonstrated) then there is nothing you can do about it apart from pick the pieces after the malevolent idiot has socially exploded.

@linxminx I see your experience as a manifestation of what could be called "the entitled generation". It is a cohort of people who imagine that the world revolves around them, and the whole world should satisfy their every whim. That the student burst into tears when she refused to take responsibility for her own manifest misanthropy is an example of this. I have seen this problem in other countries, and my sources may be being selective, but it seems to me that it is a growing problem in the USA, and it is one of the things that is feeding the Republican Party with new members. /@Druvius
