BANNING OTHERS IS BAD FORM. Go back to face book if you are going to act like that.

This is a great place.

Where else do you get to spew your best without physical reprisal?

Yet, there are those who refuse to engage. And therefore obviate their learning. That is always a disappointment. But it is not my fault their parents did not provide them with a foundation of wanting to seek understanding before judging.

Hence:::: Banning others is bad form. Go back to face book if you are going to act like that.

Think a member is behaving badly? Report to the admin.

DO NOT BLOCK. Blocking reduces the admin's access to real time data.

And, always be prepared to learn that you are the one that should be blocked.

Great thread. Thanks for all those who have contributed.

Good stuff.

Amazing how many have read this post and responded with resistance. Most of the statements provide nothing more than how they have the right to do what they want. How does that in any way reflect an understanding of what i wrote?
I think it is bad form. That you do not does not mean you have to respond.
Think about why you wasted your time.

@maturin1919 . . I have. And what do those who are attacking me think they are accomplishing?

I encourage people to not restrict their opportunities to learn. And they get crazy about being told what to do. Silly.

@maturin1919 . . . thank you for putting it so succinctly.

Think about what i wrote before responding with emotion and vitriol.

Amazing how many have posted personal objections and not addressed my ideas.

Even got some ad hominems. Thanks.

Learning? Hmmmmm... From my past interactions with you, learning isn't your goal. I would have thought you were more interested in teaching, but your tone makes it clear to me that even teaching isn't it.

I think you said it correctly: "spewing." That is, posturing.

I don't find much value in that.

I have learned much here. Have you not?

I read a post and i go to the search engines to learn what is true. Do you not?

That you react to tone instead of the ideas is sad for both of us.

Another thought. You and i have disagreed. But, i welcome your continued engagement. That would not be possible if either of us blocked the other. That is my point. And i'm stickin to it.

Your last two posts were complaining about women and you wonder why someone may have blocked you. ?
I’ve blocked people for a lot less than your inappropriate rant at me about something you know nothing about.
I could care less who blocks me.. most of the conservatives have as they like to hear thier own drivel.

My last two posts are about women demanding special treatment. That is pretty much based in the facts of what i have posted.

Some people are grade A assholes and need to be banned.

But that helps no one.

@Jacar , it helps me if I block them.

@chucklesIII . . . you will never know that.

I feel i should report you to admin for telling people how to act.

Also, and this may be hard to swallow, but not everything that gets written is valuable.

haha indeed, not everything written is valuable. (i don't read romance novels. am i screwing my education by eschewing them or is it okay to be selective in life and still not consider oneself overly insular?) among those things i find less valuable than other things is a SHOUTED command from someone with no authority to command. i don't block for that, but if i did, how would that make me a bad person?

g

@genessa thanks for proving my point.

@MarkiusMahamius when you're right, you're right right?

g

Please do so. I have provided reasons for why one should not shun another. Your comment is at the top of the list as to why i would not block anyone.

@genessa And how does blocking help that? I just don't read certain people's post. But blocking them interferes with the flow of the thread, which could interfere with someone else's thinking.
That is one of the reasons to not block.

@genessa . twas not a command. Think about how you responded without understanding the ideas.
Another reason not to block.

@Jacar i didn't claim that blocking helped anything. i disputed your claim that it impaired something. actually i understood your ideas just fine. i totally disagree with them. that doesn't mean i didn't understand them. it simply means i think you're wrong. and yes, the way you wrote it, it was a command.

g

@genessa . . i would be sad if you did not continue to provide me with your comments.

@genessa the asshole in me wants to block so badly...

But I dare not see deprive him of my pearls of wisdom/insight/snark. I hear they're quite valuable.

@MarkiusMahamius lol

g

@MarkiusMahamius . . . thanks for understanding.

There are some people on here I have come close to blocking, but out of principle I don't. I refuse to allow myself to live in an echo chamber...I might just learn something new!

As far as banning...only admin can do that as far as I am aware, and I do support banning trolls or people spewing over the top violent and hateful rhetoric.

0

I do temporary blocks... Then unblock... If person continues being block worthy, I block longer the next time... Currently none blocked although I'm block by members here I've never talked too.. Crybabies maybe?

0

If I want to block somebody I will and you don't get to tell me I can't.

I did not tell you you cannot. I wrote that it is not in your best interest. There is a BIG difference.

@Jacar Really? How do you get to decide what is in my best interest?

@sewchick57 . . . Think about what you wrote. Me decide? Block everyone whose ideas you don't like. Save yourself from learning some of your ideas are wrong.

And read my post think about why you emotionally reacted as you did, and why you wrote what you did.

banning others is not necessarily bad form. blocking doesn't reduce admin's access to a damned thing. if someone thinks i am the one to be block, that person is free to block me, just as i am free to block trolls, scammers and anyone else with whom i don't want to engage for any reason, none of which is anyone's business. if i think a member is behaving badly but not breaking an ag dot com rule, reporting to admin is useless. it is also possible to report AND block. in addition, it would be foolish to assume that just because one has blocked someone, one refuses to engage at all. it is possible to recognize a troll quickly. one does not have to engage for long, seeking "understanding," to know one has better uses of one's time and energies.

g

p.s. telling others whether or not to use a feature (provided by the site for a purpose) is bad form.

It reduces the groups effort to isolate real offenders.

@Jacar no it doesn't. the ONLY thing it affects is two people's ability to see each other's posts. not a single other thing is affected in any way.

g

I was providing some perspective, not commanding anyone. Amazing how so many cannot read for idea comprehension and immediately respond with defiance and attacks. Sad for all of us.

@Jacar your actual ideas were WRONG. i comprehended them quite well enough, thanks. amazing how people don't even know what they, themselves, are saying and doing.. no one is attacking you. "go back to facebook" is a worse attack than any response you've had. sad for you. i don't personally have a horse in this race. i just don't want people believing that blocking people "reduced the groups [sic] effort to isolate the real offenders."

g

@genessa . . amazing how your horse is so unhappy.

1

Sometimes you just have enough and don't want to put up with someones rubbish.

I just don't read their shit. But someone else might want to. And currently blocking a member can result in posts of many being deleted. Nicht gut.

@Jacar So, did someone block you then?

@Jolanta . . .How could i not have been blocked, given how evil my posts are.

As i have posted elsewhere, it would be good to have a "number of people who have blocked you" gadget..

@Jacar evil is in the eye of the beholder

@Jolanta . . . thank you for that. exactly. And way too often the beholder is wrong.

You say this even though there’s a group page where people request to have other people kicked out because they’re suspicious or they said something that hurt someone else’s feelwings ?

So no I disagree with you on this one because there’s people on here that will see something that you posted and go all passive aggressive on you and when you come back at them they go running to an admin.

Seriously fuck that I’m too grown for that drama
I’ll give someone a chance to discuss but now if they try pulling me out of my square then it’s a block they’re no longer butthurt and I’m free to express my personal views.
Win win ??

Blocking is censorship. I just don't read certain members' posts The current way a block happens can result in many members not seeing what was posted to make their own decision.

@Jacar Well what do you call it when certain members feel as though it’s their right to demand that you be banned from “ their “ site?

You can call it what you want but I look at as a bullshit/drama filter for those who aren’t able to accept the views and opinions of other people.

@48thRonin . .I am not an admin. I have not authority or power to make anyone do anything.

I think, as my post indicates, that blocking another member provides no benefits for anyone.

why are you so angry about such an idea?

@Jacar I’m not angry I was raised that if you didn’t like something on the radio or tv you changed it and moved on.

You didn’t call up the channel or write their sponsors and demand that no one else be allowed to see it.

But social media apparently is something completely different where people can’t just say yeah that’s not me and kick rocks.

Instead it’s their place to either attempt to shame you or call upon their likeminded offendee’s and really jump on your shit and if you fight back then it’s to the moderators of which I know that you’re not.

I’m just saying that adults discuss and debate
Children fight and tell on each other.

And honestly I don’t see how if I block you that I’m some how blocking ten other people either? Seriously that makes no sense unless the ten of you have given me a reason to lump you in the not so friends and family pile.

But to once again answer blocking someone on here has the same benefit that it does on my phone it keeps shit out of my life that “ I “ don’t need.

@48thRonin . . . people who block are self censoring. Very sad for them and for all of us.

@Jacar Well don’t give me a reason to and we won’t have that problem but I can’t speak for everyone else but at the same time I’m personally enjoying this site now that I’ve put the fence up.

@48thRonin . . i have no control over what will trigger you. So telling me not to give you a reason to block me makes my point. Thanks. I will treasure this moment forever.

Got to agree with Carin. I don't know about banning anyone from the site. Haven't seen anyone act so abusive that I would seek that from the admins., but I have blocked several people already and am glad I have that option. Some people harrass and others are just full of shit. Hence, I block. Spend very little time on FB, so I don't understand your comments about that.

People who are shits do often spew the truth. Sad if you've missed it.

@Jacar Anybody can speak the truth, even if only occasionally, whether they're a shit, as you say, or a great person. Example, even Trump, from time to time.

@TomMcGiverin . . yes. and as we all are aware, especially as we age, we learn most from those we disagree with. Not that we change our minds. But that we are engaged in conversations that help us learn more about a subject and more about ourselves. How is that not good?

3

That's your opinion.

Carin Level 8 Dec 21, 2018

@daylily . . . And so what/ Are you obligated to do what another commands you to?
No. That is my point.
Restricting one's exposure to unhappy ideas does not increase one's understanding.
