I passionately believe that religious organizations that encourage any sort of political preference should be taxed.

Churches that give political directives can and should lose their 501-C-3 (tax exempt) status. That's the law. It just isn't enforced as it ought to be.

7

They should ALL be taxed into oblivion.

@Sam-a-Lamb I like seeing them converted into housing. Preferably, low-income housing.

@KKGator There's one on my street 2 blocks away that's being torn down the rebuilt as expensive housing.

@morlll Yeah, unfortunately, that's what is happening with a lot of those properties.
All about the almighty dollar.

@KKGator We did get the city to cancel the 5 story condo project in a semi-detached 100-year-old 2-floor residential area. We wanted some low-income housing. The new owners and neighbours bristled at the idea. It would bring down housing prices which are flying pretty high here.

@morlll Yep. People don't care about helping other people if there's even a chance that it could effect their property values.

There's no way to stop that. We just need to tax ALL churches, religious organizations, and the income of all who work for them.

They are entertainment organizations and should be taxed the same as theaters.

5

They are supposed to be, by law. But, Republican politicians see that those laws are not enforced.

It's time to change that. Tax them all.

5

And be designated a PAC.

4

Religions should pay business taxes, the same as any other business for profit enterprise, they make a huge profit.

4

I agree. Here in Canada also. They shouldn't get it both ways. Tax their private Jesus Donkey Jets. Tax their mansions and money making churches.

4

Yes * 100.

I agree! There should be no free rides!

4

Why that specific? They all should be taxed like the charlatan businesses they are.

I consider them all in the "entertainment" sector of the economy.

@ejbman in the entertainment industry you actually get something for your money. But were splitting hairs, here.

3

I absolutely agree! They have violated the separation of Church and State.

@Antifred Are you serious??

@DevraisA1 lol we know what "church" he goes to...lol

@Antifred i was thinking more in line of the church of the bong or bottle...

@Antifred so church of the conspiracy nut jobs?

@Antifred as did your disjointed rant...no thanks...

They should be taxed specially considering the amount of money they bring in. There return of investments is astronomical.

Having been to churches attended by mostly black congregants, I know that without them, the Civil Rights Act might not have taken hold. They served a purpose to provide a safe place to get together socially and discuss issues and still do that to this day.

While I understand and agree that they should be taxed and not able to profit from their religion, I just think we can't forget that such a law affects all spectrums of the political line...

3

They should be taxed regardless of their political activity. They're an income producing entity so tax them.

How is it that scientology is tax exempt. Perhaps Atheist and Agnostics should organize. Heaven forbid.

3

Yes!

Elimination of Citizen United and the Federalists Society would be a great start!

They are treated like a major religion instead of a cult for money laundering dark money for the wealthy and their corporations!

2

I think all religious organization should be taxED
it's a business

2

Yesw, but don't just stop there, go the whole 'hog' and make them a taxable Endeavour/Organisation without exceptions or exemptions and back-tax them as well.

2

A-fuckin'-men!

2

I think any organization which encourages a political ideology should be banned.

1

Double taxed me thinks.

1

I passionately believe that any organization which, in practice or doctrine, discriminates against another group based on familia status, gender, sexual orientation, race or religion, is disbarred from any government benefits, inclusive of tax exemption.

1

Whether they do or not, I believe they should be paying taxes !

1

I totally agree.. Here in Utah the LDS church is the most influential Org. around They are heavily involved in political and social matters. Any law or measure that gets passed must be approved by the church! A LDS church meeting sounds like Sean Hannity's show on Fox news! Right -wing Is being kind. If you think Catholics have an a lot pedophiles they got nothing on these Mormons yet they enjoy tax exemptions and their members also can right off 10 % tithing which is required to even get in their Temple! I live in Salt Lake . A very progressive city, we even have a gay mayor, but because of gerrymandering the Republicans dominate the government and policy. This I believe is because of the LDS church! I do what I can but things need to change and in this state it moves very slowly.

1

They'll probably put their headquarters in Ireland to not pay any taxes like the big corporations do.
