A few suggestions for the guys on dating sites: First, post a picture of YOU and not some actor. I'm pretty sure that Benjamin Bratt does not need a dating site to get a date (and he's happily married!). Second, don't list yourself as a non-smoker but post a pic of you with a big ass cigar hanging out of your mouth smoking cigars is still "smoking". Lastly, If your only photo is of your big beast of a truck...we will just assume you are compensating for something. In short: Just like you want to see us, we want to see you so post a CURRENT pic of you and don't lie! And yes, I do realize women do some equally douchey things too.

I think some folks are seeking mates for their trucks, or pets, or boats , or the dead fish they hold up to the camera !

I don't put much in profiles because people see it and want to be that. (Actual scary experience) My posted pic is as honest as it gets. I hate to shave yet can't grow a full beard. (Thanks dad) Conversation is the biggest draw for me. (The old fashioned method) What better way to discover things. Most dating site are for the young. My opinion.

I see it the same way except I don't know any other way to meet eligible bachelors.

No, I hear you. Meeting in person is much "easier" I think but I'm not into bars and being busy with my job and music is great but most of the people I'd even be remotely interested in are taken or way too young. Kinda sucks really. LOL

@GrungeGirl90s Don't get me wrong. I connect with people on dating sites but would rather have a few good phone conversationns before meeting. I'm special. I've been told that I have an agenda lol. I've just learned to be more honest as I've grown older.

I use my own pictures and no, I don't drive a big truck nor do I want one

Smoking is fucking gross and it is an instant turnoff.

My downstairs neight is pretty then she puts a cigarette in her mouth and it's like "glad we are just neighbors"

One of my other neighbors tried to hookup with me before she.moved and she smoked like a chimney. "Yea. Thanks for dinner. I goota.go. Bye."

I went off on a tangent. So here it is: Smoking is gross. Just dont.

"If your only photo is of your big beast of a truck...we will just assume you are compensating for something." Ha ha ha ha . . . . I always thought it was funny when I was driving an 18 wheeler over the road, and some redneck bastard in what he thought was a big truck suddenly realized that he was looking "up" at me and you could see the expression in his face change . . . It was hilarious!

My stepdad was an owner operator. My two cousins and I would go with him in the summer and make bank. It was blast. He would let me drive the tractor and back it up. It was funny when older truckers would see me, a 15 year old girl in the seat backing it up. Talk about looks! LOL

With me it IS a case of what you see is what you get, including my profile photo.

You seem to me to be a very annoying woman, I imagine you are annoying during sex, I also think you should complain about all sexual positions.

Well, since you are passing judgement without actually knowing someone. Based on your reply, you seem to me like the antiquated 50's man; the man who is scared of women who speak their mind and would rather a woman be silent, barefoot and pregnant. Strong women don't have the time or need to deal with small, shallow men like you who are boring in bed.

I apologize to you, I think I was rude to you, I judged you based on my past experiences.

And don't use a photo from 20 years ago when you had long hair and now you don't. Some of us appreciate the honesty of the bald head!

Yes!! Good hair on a man is the most important feature when looking for a man. Talk about shallow.

how about a picture of a cute fuzzy animal?

Sure, as long as you are with it! Or it's another pic along with the one of you. 😁

This whole thread is hilarious. Male/Female relationships are too dysfunctional to work anymore. Popular media has raised generations of men and women that are too different to work together.

Bring on the sex robots and test-tube procreation.

@Cherie4444 Ok, let me rephrase. I am not saying it CAN'T happen. Just that it no longer happens frequently enough to maintain a social system based on pair-bonded child-rearing.

A retirement system based on everybody winning the lottery before they get old would not work.
However, some people would win and be set for life.

@Cherie4444 My 22 yr. LTR and marriage allowed me to temporarily beat the odds and be with someone attractive and compatible that I may never be able to find another at my age that is even close to that due to being bald, Agnostic, childfree, average looking and not the culture and lifestyle the vast majority of women in my area want. That dating market and game have really gotten worse since I was in it in the mid-90s, plus being older now. Jinx is totally right about how unlikely I am to find someone compatible in today's system.

@Cherie4444 Not sure what you are saying. When I met my late wife I still had a fair amount of hair on my head and I could still get dates with women that were attractive to me, at least. It does seem to me that the dating market is worse now, at least in my experience compared to the last time, and I think that is for other reasons as well as me being bald or not as athletic looking as back then either. Make of it what you will. I think most of the reasons are that women are way more closed and guarded than back then about dating as well as being pickier than then. It makes the whole process really an ordeal for both.

For reference: There is a clear drop in marital rates in the United States since 1960.

@Cherie4444 Not to belabor the point. LOL. I don't like this situation at all. I would love to be happily married and I spend way too much time thinking about it.

I just feel like we have tens of millions of people complaining about their personal dating lives, and not enough noticing the shared trends.

@Jinx5555555 42 percent of the adult population is now single. You are not alone. (And that stat was from the last census).

I drive a knackered old Hyundai Getz 1.1lt 2004. I'm just about to enter my late fifties and I'm overweight, 1.72m/102kg but my hair is long and still its natural brown colour.
I snore, fart and belch, sometimes simultaneously! But I can hold a conversation, cook, clean, iron and listen. I'm a non-smoker, don't do drugs or gardening, and I'm somewhat of a left-wing liberal socialist. Love history, sci-fi & fantasy, various musical tastes.
How's that?

Someone in their late 70s, early 80s thinks you're perfect! lol!!! That's one lament we share.

2

I am pretty honest on my bio and pics. I also don't care what anyone thinks because I don't plan on a lengthy relationship, I'm too old to start over. Yeah, some women have used old pics or "glamour" photos back in the day when I actively looked for a date, showed a little insecurities but nobody is perfect. I understand. I'm not into "using" people, I just like to feel comfortable with them.

Either way, teling truth or not, the results are the same.

Absolutely in their tainted world view!'

Good points.

1

Seems to me that eventually you want to meet the person you are messaging, so the truth will come out. What's the point in doing the lying stuff?

Speaking of Benjamin Bratt, I saw Jaws with him and his family at a drive-in theater in San Francisco. My cousins were friends with his brother Peter. That's my only brush wtih fame.

1

All valid points. I get the impression that so many dudes lie that the ones who don't get overlooked. The whole system is not ideal.

It's funny because I have one really great and sweet friend. She has a habit of posting pics and saying "all natural, no filters" When I see them my first thought is, "Woman, I just saw you less than an hour ago. No filters my ass." LOL! Woman are just as bad.

1

Thanks for reminding us to post our pics. Will do. At least you made me feel good for your preference for guys with long hair and prefers rock music. Thanks.

What kind of prompted this was getting a message from some dude, no pic and didn't even fill out his "about me" section. He was upset because I didn't respond to his first message! Saying, " I guess I'm not your type cause you won't even be courteous and say Hi.". How do I even know what his type is???

This is a very powerful thread and quite interesting. People going back and forth displaying the many differences between the sexes. I miss intimacy. Not sex. Cuddling, kissing and hugging. Looking into someone's eyes and feeling good. It's actually tough to find.

It is, you're right. I myself am very picky. Not like a 'checklist" picky but there needs to be something that I see in someone right off the bat. Just something that makes me smile. If I see THAT, then I read their profile and see where they live. I actually like the quirky guy but I have to admit I do like long hair on a guy. We all have our preferences. My one friend hates long hair on a guy. She likes bald or high n' tight military cut. We can't be everyone's cup of tea but there are people, like minded, that are out there and I think we'll eventually find each other...Ahhhh, optimism. LOL

Like Sticks says all the time, it goes both ways (with both genders) when it comes to being deceitful and being shallow in online dating or dating in general. Having this debate over and over with each gender defending their fellow gender members becomes really old and tiresome. Let's all be honest enough to just admit that for once and quit waging gender wars on here.

I work with guys who drive big beasts of as truck and still live with momma. One such guys chews and says he is not going to quit and he has chewed since high school.

Do you have his number? Asking for a friend....😅😂🤣
