I like the notion of emphasizing forgiveness, which is a hard change to put into effect. Even with that caveat, Christians seem completely oblivious to the notion of forgiveness. It's in one ear and out the other. The failure of Christian love is everywhere to be seen.

Humility is a similar honorable attribute given lip service by Christians. As with forgiveness, it is another singular failure of Christians; they are unable to adopt genuine humility and avoid hubris. The expression of humility seems almost entirely unknown, and full-bore arrogance is more the norm.

Indeed, Christians are fond of parading their (supposedly exclusive) claims on morality even as morality is wholly feigned and workarounds are universally practiced. The hypocrisy reeks. Happily, many young people actually seem to be repelled by this hypocrisy and are looking elsewhere.

I have several friends that have had miraculous cures or have been saved from death by God. When they tell me their story I just want to say "How do you know God did it?". I guess these people really believed God gave them a miracle or either they are delusional. These are intelligent people. Sometimes I want to laugh out loud in their faces. One lady told me she saw Jesus in her bedroom and he told her that her husband would live. He died 6 months later.

We wouldn't have great horror flicks like Rosemary's Baby, Omen, and people shoving crucifixes in vampire's faces without Christianity.

I really like those movies, especially the ones with stigmata in them.

A few good priest and a Rabbi walk in to a bar jokes?

Choral music (while ignoring the lyrics), and cathedrals - amazing structures, which make great concert halls !

Well apart from population control through burning witches, christmas economy boost, interesting art, jokes about priests and rabbi's walking in to bars, bingo, some charity for the poor, good horror movies, stained glass art and drinking wine on sundays what else has come out of christianity that is good?

Well you've convinced me.......Let's keep religion.

@MsDemeanour in a museum!

Community, and emotional support. Humans are social creatures.
This is what the non-believers lack.

Keeping down the population by burning "witches" and bleeding sick people instead of healing them with herbs.

4

A lot of those beliefs come from Hinduism and Judaism and confucianism and other older religions. Cannot think of anything that is original.

There's been some interesting art.

I went to church on Christmas because my parents are pastors and wanted to spend time with them. I started wondering similar questions while I was there. It started with singing and they wore really passionate even when some people don't have the best voice they felt the "spirit" if you took the lyrics out, it compared to fun karaoke night. Then after people get reminded that they have a PURPOSE IN LIFE. The reinforcement that they get in service makes them rejoice. After that I noticed that when they wore calling people to repent and they started the sad music people wore crying all over the church sobbing kneeling on the floor and I just thought that they felt guilty or in pain of a certain situation they wore going through. I started realizing that this was a place for them to testify their struggles and let go of their resentments and feel liberated. My mother caught my eye because she was on the floor crying and I felt bad because I thought she was sad. I asked her later that day why she was crying and she said she felt a sensation of peace in the presence of God thats why she was crying. I told her I didnt understood because I thought she was sad and she said no. My interpretation of of it is just emotional people letting it out. After presents wore given out to all the children. Following was bomb ass food. Alot of those house women can cook. Then fireworks with the kids and bonfire. Point is they get alot of personal fulfilment.

I don't think that it is possible to untangle any one thing, not only because you have to take the whole thing as a complex, which works together as a whole or not at all.

But also because every good thing, generally comes with an equal and opposite shadow. You could for example say the principle of, judge not lest you be judged. Which is a great liberal and humane ideal for the individual to live by, but it inevitably means that the business of judging is therefore handed over even more to the church, so that the church becomes even more judgmental and hands out guilt in vast amounts, without even the normal human compassion that an individual would show.

A friend of mine is a Methodist lay preacher. A while back he took up a collection from his church for blankets, sleeping bags and other such supplies and drove them to a refugee camp. The man is a good and decent person and I'm sure would still be a good and decent person if he didn't believe in God, but without the links to a church congregation full of similarly decent people to assist with collection and distribution then he'd be less effective in his charitable works.

Fantastic architecture, wonderful music, turn the other cheek, an excuse to drink wine on Sunday.

We should be neighbors. 🍷🍷👌😎

Wait...what's good about "turning the other cheek"?

@AnneWimsey Tit for tat tends to escalate conflict. What starts as a small insignificant slight can grow into a major struggle if each side continues to respond with retaliation. Defending yourself is one thing but often it's better to let it go and let it be.

Lots of Children. One purpose of religion as an exadaptation is that it provides a framework for the formation of stable families, which leads to more children, who will most likely be raised to be religious themselves. The end result is that your society grows faster and gives it a survival edge.

In modern days, having lots of children is not required for survival, so at the least it is time to let go of the misogyny and indoctrination, if not the beliefs in their entirety.

Be fruitful and mulitiply!

R&B gospel music.I also thought the animated movie Prince of Egypt was pretty damn good.

Beyond that I have nothing.

What is amazing to me is that Christians don't even care if the Bible is true or or not. They never want to discuss the idea that Jesus might not have been a real person. They want to discuss that Eve bit an apple and that cast all humans into sin, The Noah story, really?? Johna lived 3 days in a whale. Give me a break. God likes to write books on occasion.

In the Western world, Christmas usually gives an economic boost to the retail and manufacturing sectors.

and increases poverty and anxiety to all those with cashed out credit cards
