@Triphid Isn't it great fun when Brits come to visit our country and use the term 'Colonial' to describe us as though we were still colonies and not independent nations? We used to get that a lot when I was a kid in Toronto and the UK was down in the heels and sending over their dregs to get them off the dole. Back in the 80's we started putting restrictions on immigrants from the UK and I don't think it was a bad thing at all; if you want to come to my country then you can get in line and take a number, the same as everybody else that wants in.
Unless you are a refugee, we want to see qualifications so that you can stand on your own two feet. The kicker for me personally is the Amerikans that often talk about coming to Canada because the party in power down there is not their personal favourite, they assume they can just come as they please but they get a rude awakening at the border. Personally, I would take a Pommie over a Yank but I don't get to decide, at least they know how to spell.

@Surfpirate In Australia it is almost a badge of honour to be able to trace your family back to a convict. To just come from immigrants rates very low on the social scale. Alas I am just plain ole peasant stock that worked their way over and made a life for themselves here.
