When the Republicans repudiate (fill in the blank) instead of embracing it...
violence, insurrection, rigging elections, disregarding elections, Putin, racism, bigotry, hatred of women, hatred of LBGTQ, hatred of Jews or Muslims, hatred of immigrants, hatred of democracy, hatred of democrats, not applying the rule of law to them, and a whole lot of others...

Terrorists? Were all the German Nazis terrorists?

God will not hold us guiltless? No, god will not hold you anything. That does not stop me from claiming that those who declare themselves Patriots are surely lying if they have never served in the military.

Sure took him a very long time to figure out that these obstructionists regressive Republican fascists are now terrorists!!!

They have always been terrorists owned outright by the wealthy and their corporations!!!

Mr. Piper is an apologist for right wing extremists. Mr. Piper can fuck off. 😉

Most Republicans today either believe Cheato's Big Lie or are so afraid of being tarred and feathered by their own that they parrot the lie or remain silent. These people represent an existential threat to American democracy.

6

They may not all be terrorists, but their silence for sure shows their support of it..

A good book to read on that topic is "Hitler's Willing Executioners", about ordinary citizens remaining silent while people were being slaughtered.

Someone showing blind Fealty or blind obedience to any one person, or a so called ‘god’ is what I would say is dangerous in a sense, regardless of what their political stripes are.

I have several co workers and a number of family members who are Republicans, and none of them support extremist positions such as total abortion bans, for example. They merely oppose it, and that is 100% good.

Extremists on both sides are dangerous, I don’t care if it’s ANTIFA, Black Lives Matter, QANON, MAGA. The question that really must be asked is, What and where have these people come from and what brought them to believe, or be willing to believe, downright nonsense.

To conflate either BLIM or Antifa, with Fascist MAGA or Q, is to show how little you know of their movement or reason for existing..

@Charlene what they are, is in fact, movements, correct? And…..from what I have seen, they all largely exist to do one thing, and that is to cause trouble. They are not interested in solving problems.

@CuddyCruiser they are raising awareness through protest. That's how things change.

@CuddyCruiser My take on Antifa and BLM is that their main goal is to call attention to systemic injustice in America. They are simply responding to a long history of oppression. They are unfairly painted by the alt right/MAGA crowd as being violent terrorists. It's true that some protests have turned violent, but there are always a few hooligans in the crowd, no matter what the ideology. By and large, BLM protests are peaceful.

@CuddyCruiser seriously? BLM protesting against the murdering of George Floyd and over 300 years of Systemic Racism was just to "cause trouble"? I wonder how you'd react if the tables were turned..
As for Antifa..did you have a parent/grandparent fight in WWIi? All those young men were Antifa..it's an ancacronym for Anti-Fascist..so if you're not a a Fascist, and speak out against it You're Antifa..

He keeps saying that this comment is being made to republicans as "half of the American people" when in actuality republicans are at best a third of registered voters and no where near half the American people.

The rest of the article is nothing but a straw man word salad filled with right-wing definitions of the other sides policies that purposely misrepresent the other side. That's just another republican tactic to avoid actually addressing the policies of the other side while pretending that their misrepresentations are relevant and significant.

Not all Republicans. Only those who kowtow to Donald Trump and his ilk in perpetuating the Big Lie, and further damage this country through the illegal removal and mishandling of classified documents. Only those who directly, or indirectly through their support, plot to kidnap governors and storm Capitols. Only those who call or write letters to election officials, judges and politicians with direct or implicit threats to their lives and those of their families.

The Republican party has been hijacked by a crude and boorish branch of extremism. It is a vestige of what it once was under statesmen like Eisenhower, Reagan and McCain. There was a previous era when a virus made its way through the Republican party and infected the nation with the disease of McCarthyism. Today’s Trumpists are a much more threatening disease because of their numbers and their willingness to go to extreme lengths in order to retain power.

Biden was right to publicly acknowledge MAGA Republicans for the extremists they truly are. Trumpism at its core seeks to set the clock back more than half a century, in their so-called effort to Make America Great Again which is code for make America white again!

MAGA Repubs not only want to make America white again, they also want to put women back into their place as they were in the 1950s, before modern feminism, contraception, legal abortion, and women had any rights to equal employment and pay compared to men. In other words, to erase any civil rights laws that improved things for racial minorities and women, beginning in the Sixties...

@TomMcGiverin Well said!

It is an opinion piece, in a conservative leaning newspaper.

I think republicans are just very willing to ignore facts, such as Trump lost the election and there was no massive voter fraud, and act on their emotions, rather than reason, which causes many of them to do things which a fully rational person would consider to be "over the top" at best, and terrorism at worst.

Compound the unwillingness to view facts rationally with the religious ferver or the religious right and Christian nationalists, and I can see why many might view republicans as being domestic terrorists.

I myself think most republicans don't advocate violence, but remain silent when their fellows do get violent, because they want to fit in and belong with their fellow republicans. I saw the republican party was changing back in the 1980's and I left the poarty because it no longer represented my values.

The party really changed in 1968, as Nixon realized that when Truman integrated the military and Johnson signed the Civil Rights acts, the racists were disillusioned with the democrats, and so he implemented "the southern strategy" to mobilize the racists for republicans. Then in 1980, Reagan brought in religious broadcast leaders. With Nixon they said they were all about "law and order" and "states rights" and under Reagan is was "family values".

By the time we got to Trump, they abandoned their pretenses of "law and order" and "family values" and were headed towards outright fascism.

To give you an idea of ust how much the republican arty has changed, here is hte 1956 republican platform.

Wow, 1956 Republicans aren't awful piles of human shit like the current ones are.

@ChestRockfield 1956 Republicans are about the equivalent of democrats of today. Today's democratic party is center right in ideology.

@JonnaBononna Yeah, starting with Reagan dragging the republican party further to the right, they managed to drag the democrats to the right as well, as Reagan was so popular. Well, the republicans kept moving to the right and are now not so far from fascism, and the democrats are more like the republicans of old.

@snytiger6 Well, some of the Democrats. Some of them have moved so far to the left they don't even make sense to someone who used to describe himself as 'about as liberal as you can be'.

@JonnaBononna They are center left.

Or terrorist wannabes.

No, but very few aren't.
