Prosecutors ask jury to recommend death sentence for Parkland shooter. They didn't get it. He got 17 life sentences without the possibility of parole.

The defense began its case by showing that Nikolas Cruz’s late birth mother, Brenda Woodard, was a Fort Lauderdale prostitute who smoked crack cocaine and drank Colt 45 malt liquor and Cisco fortified wine during her pregnancy with him. It is unknown whether Cruz’s birth father was a customer or a rapist -- there was conflicting testimony on that -- but his identity is unknown and he was not part of Woodard’s life. (via AP News)

One bottle of the fruit-flavored Cisco, a fortified wine that is 20 percent alcohol and dubbed by some as 'liquid crack,' contains the equivalent of five shots of 80-proof vodka.

The mother was a crack-whore prostitute. She had no business getting pregnant and having a child. This mass murderer should have been aborted during pregnancy.

Pictured are 17 photos of the dead that he slaughtered:

Astute analysis. Not only was she useless she created a murderer. We get it. His mom was a POS. That had nothing to do with him murdering those people. This American culture is all about responsibility absolvement and assigning blame. HE murdered those people. Nobody else.

And for the record, I support the death penalty. And I don't even want to hear about the racial disparity crap either. I'm well versed in it.

I agree that prison for life is worse than death.
However, I don't wanna pay a single penny to feed him.
Kill him

I will be point blank with this. It doesn't matter what his mother was and I refuse to feel sorry for him if his childhood was bad. They should fry that sucker! Fry him until he is done and crispy.

You're why he did it .. it's people like you who think you have the right to take life that gives others the green light to be the same way

@laidback1 Really? His green light to kill anyone had nothing to do with me and you know that he does not know me in any way. I'm the reason he did it? Come on now. You have no logic. Where do you get the idea that I think I have a right to take a life? Your words here are in no way what I said. I do know that if you fry that sucker he will never kill anyone again and it saves a lot of taxpayer money.

It would be interesting to hear the pro-life Bible thumpers make the argument that this pregnancy should not have been aborted, sort of brings up the contradiction of exactly what stages of life they care about in their pro-life policies and rhetoric. It obviously would have been the best thing for the world and everyone involved, if this kid's mother had let him be aborted...

It would be interesting if you had the ability to think critically and realize that it was his environment that led him to kill .. the environment that's drenched with assholes like yourself

@laidback1 Fuck you! I can and do think way more critically, than anything I've ever seen you post on here. Of course I realize his environment led him to kill, so what? The fact remains that he never should have been born in the first place, to a woman like that. So what are you, some idiot pro-lifer who thinks that no baby should ever be aborted? Good luck with that viewpoint, asshole, as you will find almost nobody on here who agrees with you on that...

As far as I’m concerned spending the rest rest of your life in prison is worse than the death penalty. In fact some convicted individuals choose the death penalty over life in prison. Also it usually costs the taxpayers more for a prisoner to be executed than it does for life in prison

4

Being in jail all your life with no chance of parole is way worse than being executed.

I think he'll rot in jail with a husband to protect his virgin ass until somebody offs him.

2

What a waste of tax dollars. Hopefully someone in prison offs him. The world would be a better place.

That's what he thought and no one else would do it ,so he did it .. thank you for putting more gas on the fire..

1

I did not hear the case, so I'm not going to second guess the jury's decision. Let the POS rot in prison.

1

If the verdict holds, the authorities better try to protect him. Depending on the prison population he is held with, hard to imagine some lifers not being tempted to off him for the fame and yard cred.

2

If this isn't a capital punishment case, there is none. Probably the jury selection process enabled the defense to pull this off.

He definitely had a broken brain from being conceived by his mother. I would bet he never got any help either. This is the result of no help for children like this kid. We have a sick society that doesn’t lift a finger for kids like this. He never had a chance to be normal. So very sad that he took innocent lives the way he did.

Totally true. And Floriduh is ran by guess who? Trumpelthinskin Clone Ron Desantis and Republicans.

@CuddyCruiser I have no doubt that not one repub cared a bit about this kid. Their attitude is, “it’s not my problem”! But it’s everyone’s problem when our so called leaders do nothing to help the marginalized in our society!

@Redheadedgammy I like your big-picture thinking.

I liked the point made by one of the parents that: If the death penalty doesn't apply for this case, when would it ever apply?

Never ... Meaning he shouldn't of never killed niether.. and if there wasn't so much permission for giving others death .. he may not of killed anyone..

@laidback1 I am not fond of the death penalty, but I understand the anger people feel who have lost loved ones needlessly. The state should not execute but might delegate the deed to a motivated person(s). The parents could form a firing squad with a couple of blanks mixed in...

I understand how tempting a case like this is to want to have the death penalty, but with how unevenly it is applied to racial minorities and the poor, compared to killers that are white and/or rich, it doesn't seem worth having, to me, as an option. And there is also the issue of how governments use the death penalty for trumped up, non-violent offenses to kill and silence their political enemies and critics.

I'm in total agreement. The potential for abuse is too high.

@Betty As a socialist, I am well aware of how it has been used to kill and silence left wing critics of right wing authoritarian governments.

4

I would have voted for the death penalty. He shouldn't get to live after what he did. Straight to the electric chair!

I'm not convinced that a life sentence with no possibility of release is significantly different from a death sentence. In cases like this where there's no possible doubt about who did it, it may be better to torture the killer for as long as possible in order to deter other shooters and to encourage them to shoot themselves sooner than they otherwise would to avoid being captured alive, thereby leading to fewer victims. Cruz will be tortured mentally for many decades, but maybe that isn't adequate.

No matter what, it will never be adequate. The loved one is still gone. They will never come back. Even if I suffered this and got to do what I wanted to do to the criminal, even if I extracted his dick and whatever else I may do, it will never be adequate.

But I’m speaking for myself and others may feel different.

Sometimes capital punishment is not about the perpetrator but society that feels some sort of justice must be had for horrific crimes. If we were to remove guns in our society these sort of crimes would go down and maybe only then could we talk about the injustice of capital punishment (like most European countries).

@JackPedigo Remove guns from society? Probably not possible. But we could do a better job of regulating them.

@JackPedigo If we remove guns only the criminal drug gangs will have guns and we will become like Mexico. If you don’t like private citzens having guns why don’t you move there or to Cuba or North Korea.

I'm convinced it's people who think like you is why he killed ..

@laidback1 For me it's all about statistics as to what minimises the killings and acting accordingly. Clearly the biggest gains would come from making sure people like him can never get hold of guns.

@Flyingsaucesir Regulation will include removing some guns from society. Problem, for the gun nuts, it's always an extreme. All rules are off and any rules mean all guns will be confiscated. This is how we get into messes.

@JackPedigo The Democraps gun control nuts will never be satisfied until they’ve seized all the guns.

@Trajan61 @JackPedigo Hey I tend to agree with the "only the criminals" argument; I think there is some truth to it in the context if the USA, at least in the short term. But the problem is not all that simple. There is evidence that stricter gun controls reduce gun violence. In fact, no other developed country has looser gun laws or as much gun violence as the USA. Therefore it is mighty presumptuous of you to tell a concerned citizen (one who appreciates nuance that apparently is lost on you) that he should he should abandon his homeland just because he doesn't agree with you. Your arrogance is noted. Now why not climb down off your high horse?

@David_Cooper seriously lol he could of killed with his bare hands, like a lot of people are capable of.. you want everyone's hands too ..

@laidback1 If it's that easy to kill with hands, why do people bother with guns? In countries where lobbyists can't override democracy by buying government policy on this issue, it's hard to get hold of guns and we don't have these mass shootings. We've never had a mass killing with someone using their hands alone. We've had a few terrorists use knives to kill two or three people, but they're easier to fight back against by using things like chairs and fire extinguishers. It makes a huge difference to the numbers killed when these nutters go berserk.

@David_Cooper tell that to the people in northern Maine who nearly got poisoned to death .. there's countless ways to kill ..

To say that if we make it harder to kill will stop the killing is retarded because it's not that hard to kill . If one wants to do they can kill as many as they want to

Kill a lot of people with a knife way more than three ,and it's a lot easier to shoot back if you have a gun against a knife or a gun ,well as long as you're far enough away from the knife.. knife is more dangerous up close in combat as far as I know , especially if one is trained

@laidback1 I don't think you quite understand how pathetic those mass shooters are - they are only capable of killing because guns make it so easy for them, and most notably when it comes to how they're going to kill themselves at the end of the process. The statistics demonstrate that in countries where guns are hard to get, we don't have mass killings on anything approaching the scale that you see in the US.

@David_Cooper tell that to Shanghai China.. all those millions of people screaming.. cause they didn't have guns .. just like all the people enslaved in factories, all those suicides.. but yeah .. let's not let anyone have a gun..just give suicide nets.. and Germany.. took the guns and millions died.. countless examples of what happens in nations without guns where people get slaughtered and or suffer way more than any mass shooter could dream up by 1,000 fold

@laidback1 I'm not opposed to people having guns. I just want the right people to be the only ones that can have them instead of the wrong ones being the ones that are most keen to get them and who are pandered to by the manufacturers as it's good for their business (hence all the lobbying that overrides democracy in the US). I'd like all the most decent people to be identified in childhood when it's hard for them to hide their true nature, and they'd automatically be invited as adults to become part of a civilian police force with no duties but merely having the right to carry a hidden handgun everywhere (unless they develop a mental illness), while all the bad 'uns would never be allowed to own a gun at all.

Everyone's got a hard life. Some overcome it but that's not the rule.
