Should public nudity be legal?

The AANR (American Association for Nude Recreation) has the view that public nudity should be legal as long as the person is not doing anything with the intent of sexually arousing either themselves or anyone else.

The most stated reason by members is to get over "body shame", because doing so helps boost self esteem and confidence. There have been studies showing that children raised in nudist family have higher self esteem and confidence and are just generally more comfortable with who they are as a person.

On the other side there are those persons who seek out nude beaches and nudist events who have seual agendas. AANR nudist clubs don't tolerate such persons, and forcibly remove them shoudl they show up. I refer to such persons as "swingers" because they seem to fit the swinger lifestyle more than they do the nudist lifestyule

However, as a point of freedom. A freedom of expression, which does tno do harm to anyone, shoudl public nudity be legal? As atheists are nto burdened with religious mores , I was just wondering what the people here think?

I am a natuirst (nudist) and I have ridden the Portland (OR) World Naked Bike Ride, which has over 10,000 participants each year, and I have gone on nude hikes, visited clothing optional beaches

So, what are your thoughts?

Yes, but only for hot ppl. Lol

Hot is a subjective word. What I consider hot is not the same as what you'd consider hot. In reality the people at nudist clubs are the same as your average person at the mall. We aren't there to be observed by others, matter of fact staring isn't allowed. I love the nudist places because everyone is considered equal, no putting people down for not looking sharp in that bikini. I've seen scars all over, double mastectomies, and all were hot to me, just for being themselves.

Yes.

If women can handle it.

What we can't handle are men's groping eyes and hands.

I would love to be in on that bike ride one day. I've been a nudist for 30 years or more. If the general population could see how family oriented mere nudity can be it would be allowed everywhere.

I've ridden in the Portland oregon World naked Bike ride several times, and it is a lot of fun. The Portlan dride attracts over 10,000 riders each year and is one of world's largest.

I went on my first nudist holiday in the South of France las year. it was great to see people proudly bearing operation scars or mastectomies without shame. I saw some stunning looking women and men as well and enjoyed it immensely.

interestingly enough, it was not until the evening when people put a few clothes on did I find some of the girls very sexy - strange that.

Yeah, when at a nude beach or club, I am surrounded by naked people, butI never think of . I think it is all a matter of social context.

Also, we have been conditioned or socially programmed as a society to see peoples clothign as a part of their attractiveness.

Just being nude should not be a crime... I would love to go to a nude beach sometime....

Having lived in Southern California, the closest (legl) nude beach to you is Blacks Beach in San Diego. I think I read about a nude beach in North Santa Barbara country, but I have never been to it. There are soem clothing optional hotels and spas in Palm Springs, but many of them cater to "swingers".

I think that public nudity shouldn't be that big of a deal. Of course, when using public spaces, you might want to put something down for the sake of keeping things clean and germ-free for everyone's use, but otherwise it would be fine. People who are comfortable with their bodies and feel no need to wear clothes should be allowed to do away with them. It's not inherently sexual. It's just freeing.

Also get a whole lot of savings on clothes. Though maybe not sunscreen

Absolutely. It's hard to hide weapons that way.

I don't think I have ever considered that aspect....

I just want to say the female nipple is obviously EVIL but thankfully Baal gave men benign nipples. That's all.

LOL...

If god wanted us naked, we'd have been born that way....!

You obviously don't live in Alaska!

On that ride trip I might have to pass the bike seat can very rough and shaky experience

When I bought my bike, P paid extra for a few conveniences, such as a more comfortable seat, puncture proof tires (the fivers in the rires are supposedly stronger than kevlar) and puncture resistant tubes, so I am comfortable on the ride and don't experience flats when riding.

I am aware some peopel buy special set sovers for when they ride naked.

It was the Nude Bike Ride here in Brighton too, just the other day... Several hundred butt-nekked pedalers rolling through town in a convoy about a quarter mile long. And here and there, around the periphery, people were walking naked in the streets, even after the crowd had passed.

And you know what? Apart from the giggling kids, barely anyone batted an eyelid — it was completely unerotic and inoffensive. But this is Brighton.

I'm unconcerned by nudity, I'll admit. I'm no lifestyle naturist, but if I'm on a nude beach, I'll undress without anxiety (we have one in this city). Personally, I think nudity at any beach, park or leisure area ought not be a problem — same for your own property — but for hygiene reasons, yeah, keep any part of the body that harbours stank covered up when around shops, public transport, cafés etc.

The World Naked Bi9ke Ride in Portland Oregon attracts over 10,000 participants each year. It takes about two hours for all the riders to pass by.

Most people don't bat an eye, but there are always those few (usually the fanatically religious) who react badly.

(I just had an image of the treasonous GROPER naked. THAT should be illegal!)

I don't want to see Trump naked either. However, even with him the above stated rules that a person can't be anything with the intent of sexually arousign either themselves or anyone else would still apply. If public nudity were legal, I can't see him participating as he is all about image and in his mind "clothes make the man". I can't see him voluntarily putting himself in a position where nobody would be cued in to his status via the clothes he wasn't wearing and people saw him as just "equal".

On the other hand, seeing Trump naked would help people trying to lose weight as one look and they would lose their appetites.

Here in Canada, women have the right to be publically topless if they wish. It means that we have to deal with people who are offended because of their own concepts of morality. There are a lot of puritans out there who need to smoke a little weed and relax

Yes. Those darn puritans... If we were meant to be naked we'd have been born that way.

For me it's all about hygiene. I have no idea how clean people are and how well groomed.

There have been a lot of repliesw were people share your concerns.

I do know that at nudist clubs, or businesses that are clothing optional (like spas) it is good etiquette to carry a towel with you to sit on.

Public nudity should be acceptable so long as it doesn't violate public health or safety standards.

I can totally agree with that!

Last time I was on a nudist beach there were some who should never be naked in public. Seriously though personally it doesn't bother me but its a bit cool for it to be an all year round activity.

I find that usually those persons who people don't wan tot see naked, also prefer not to see those sam,e person wearing clothes either. It is a learned cultural bias. Once Irealized that, I became a lot less judgemental myself.

Public nudity...really, no. most nudists are saggy baggy old folk and i do not want to see turtle heads or goffers.

Not sure if I really want to know what a goffer is....

1

There is no control on a nudist's secretions. Not good.

Or on your speach. Want to trade?

2

Yes on nude beaches

I think we need more nude beaches, or other designated area where people are free to choose whether or not to wear clothing.

IT's fine........ as a matter of fact, the whole breast feeding thing is getting hypocritically silly. If I wanna suck on a tit in public, it's between me and the titowner.

If you are an infant that is cool. Otherwise it is either creepy or sexual and either has no place in a walmart!

1

I am a big fan of freedom and liberty. So, if you want to let it all hang out in public, by all means go for it. Additionally, you freedom and liberty only goes as far as the end of my nose. And, sight of someone's bits does not the end of my nose.

1

I personally have. No problems Sun bathing or any healthy activity while naked.... I like most who. Choose do so,, would agree there needs be legally designated locations for the growing number of individuals involved.

1

perhaps too many Americans have been perverted by glossy publications thst turned natural nakedness into a commodity: erotic nudity ...

Between that and just a general religious prude attitude....

Religions just associate nudity with sex. Most Americans have no experiences with nudity outside of sex or bathing.

Body image has a lot to do with it too. Unless a person feels insecure about how they look, advertisers won't be able to sell us a bunch of stuff that we really dont' need, which is supposed to make us look better, whether it be clothes cosmetics, skin care products, bogus weight loss products or whatever.

I believe it is legal in some states. New York, Vermont for starters. I believe it should be legal, but I don't want to look at a bunch of saggy old fat hairy gross bodies so I don't think people would want to go around naked.

In New York, I believe it is just legal for women to go topless.

In Oregon, it is technically legal to be nude, due to an Oregon State Supreme Court ruling, but a lot of the language in teh rulign was pretty gray, which the only circumstances definitively spelled otu is for protesting, although anyone who has been cited for nudity who cites the ruling has the case dismissed. So, technically it is legal, but some localities still act liek it isn't.

I am told that Vermont, although perhaps nto for the same reasons, is kind of like Oregon. Technically it is legal, but localities pretend it isn't. Havent' bene there or red up on Vermont laws.

Despite nudity beign technically legal in Oregon, most persons who liekt o be naked choose to wear clothes because they either don't wish to offend, or simply to get along better with their neighbors. I think even if public nudity were legal, most people would conform to societal norms.

1

May you continue with your nudist activities but I would prefer to be clothed as lack of apparel makes me feel insecure.I have no quasi religious views on nudity although aesthetically some human bodies are not subjectively attractive.

Or objectively!
